None of the Ohio Guard have to go to the border?

Yeah. The Canadian border. We have got to keep those people out, I tell ya.

Nothing like male bonding over MREs.

They've actually gotten much better. I don't mind them too much any more. I still lose weight when I have to eat them for an extended period though.

Put it this way, thats when I developed a taste for Tabasco sauce, which I have since lost, thankfully.

If that's what it takes to keep an MRE down, you bet your butt I'm willing...

My first experience with MREs came about while walking my dogs in an area where the Airborne maneuvered - near Camp McCall, just outside Fort Bragg. There was a mostly burnt down school there that the Airborne would defend on maneuvers (against the Rangers, iirc).

i was walking my dogs near there after a divorce which left me broke, and i found a brown plastic package of MREs: Pork Patties (this was c. 1985). The MRE was still sealed and impervious to anything short of a bayonet assault, i actually consumed it. i soon found out WHY the guy had tossed the pork patty dinner out!!

As the name goes MREs = Meals Rejected by Ethiopians!!

I dunno about bayonets, but I'm pretty sure that plastic is bulletproof. I think the powers that be were trying to ensure that the troops "worked up a proper appetite" trying to open the thing before they ate it.

Not as bad as Potatos au Grotain (sp?). My gag reflex kicks in at the mere thought.

Mike;
Do you guys ever get sent to Fort Drum in New York. There was a state road thru the place when it was camp Drum. I was headed to a hospital in Utica for ankle surgery (in the 60's), there was a sign on the road that said something like Caution tank crossing. That was a really cool sign for an 11 year old to see.

Oh, you guys can still hold the snake, not me.

It's raining (YEA!). This however terminates the battery charging ops on the jeep.

Before they put the 10th Mountain there in the 80's it was all just National Guard training. A lot of units from all over the east went there. They also liked the place in the winter because it got really cold and could snow a lot. It's right on the edge of the Lake Ontario snow belt.

Oh did I mention it can get really really cold. When a friend suggested I move to Florida, I took him up on it.

Back to the MRE thing. My dad said he would trade for the K or C ration, whichever one had the Spam in it. When I was growing up he was still eating the stuff. He used to fry it up.

Hi, I really liked C-rats. When I was in the Corps 73-77 we used to eat C-rats marked "inspected 1968" and "made in 1944"  The only ones I really hated were Ham and Lima beans but I've hated lima beans since I was a kid.
I'm not a picky eater. I like SPAM out of the can.

Is that where my dad learned to like lima beans? I hated them, but he loved them. My mom would serve them at least once a week. They got washed down with lots of milk.
