I've never played a Harpoon game before. Since there is no demo, I have no way of trying it out myself. Can I get some honest answers to the topic question? TIA!

If you are Really, Really QUICK, you can still grab a demo copy of Harpoon3 here.

Just be aware, they are about to shut that down at any moment! Also, the Demo does not allow you to play any games. It just gives you some tutorials on how the game functions and the various commands.

Out of curiosity why are they going to shut it down soon?

Mr. Gilman has told me quite explicitly that when ANW is published, sales of Harpoon3 v3.6.3 will cease.

Oic,one question aside is there any graphics or audio revamp in ANW edition?

I haven't seen anything of the sort in the Beta testing.

With Database editing, you are able to add images for the various weapons, ships, aircraft, and subs. In fact, one fellow thinks that he is able to modify and add to the little videos that are played when ships or aircraft fire weapons. There's lots of flexibility for those who want it.

Although I am getting back into Harpoon after being out of it for about a half-dozen years I played it for weeks back then in solitare play. Heck, originally it was *only* single player. Since this version comes with all the released commercial scenario packs there's a lot of gameplay there.

I do suggest that you take advantage and download the demo and give it a try. This is *not* Dangerous Waters, there's no pretty 3D. However, the variety of the ships available in the database makes it a lot of fun. It still does look and feel like it's old DOS ancestors

Many third-party scenarios are designed to be played vs. the AI only, and I can assure you that the craft of designing scenarios for Harpoon really evolved into an art in all these years (including different "creative currents", ROFTL - something I feel it is for the good of all, since the player has now the choice between "Art Deco Harpoon", "Pre-Raffaellite Harpoon" and others, according to the designers ).

A good comparison can be made with TOAW, and how the quality of third-party scenarios evolved after years of experimentation and designing.

2.  Graphics - We've covered this in the FAQ but for this version there is no changes.  We are committed to creating a new user interface (no timeline has been decided yet) with 3D graphics that you can toggle in and out of.

3.  DB Editor - The timeline for release is around July/August.  We are looking into expanding it's functions and automating its features to allow picture support and signature file generation (which is going to be important for the DB guys).

Would both be released as free patch,or one has to fork out extra cash for the feature?

Good question. What things are going to be considered 'free patches' and what things require "Upgrade" fees?

i.e. 3.7.1?
3.7.2?
3.8?
3.9?

*YAWN*

Whilst I understand the various dubious posts being made are quite trifling and, I would guess, tiresome, I don't really think this kind of attitude will help your community profile, VCDH.

I am looking at this from an outsider (not having Harpoon on my system for many, many years). Coming in here and seeing this at the top of your post does not really warm me to your development company or team.

I know and understand that we "public" can be arrogant basses with attitudes that need pulling in, but as the company producing a product and trying to support it, perhaps a bit more professionalism wouldn't go amiss.

If I've read your post wrong, I apologise. It was my view as soon as I read it.
