As the new upgrade is being worked on by David, some us are starting to create new plays and playbooks using PDS 2. I will be redoing all the playbooks I created and thought it would be a good idea to see what types of offenses and defenses people would like to see. Post here things you would like to see in the next generation of playbooks.

I plan on doing 3-4 base offense plans and 3-4 base defense schemes, and using those to make 9-16 varied playbooks. All would probably have the same goaline defense as well as special teams plays. Here are the types I plan on doing first.

Offense
Wishbone
I formation
Various T formations
Pass offense with one back 3 reciever sets and shotgun

Defense
Pro 4-3
Pro 3-4
College 5-2
college 6-2

What are some other ideas>

What I would like to see myself is the ability to convert over plays from 11 to 12.Have the American formation then have the extra player SB on offence and a DHB on defence. The 12th player would have no logic and you would just have to do the logic for the one extra player.Instead of making the file from scratch and doing all 12 players from scratch.

Sounds like a nice feature, it would help alot to generate additional playbooks. I have watched some Canadian football, but not enough to create plays and playbooks, so all the plays/books I create will be limited to American football. But they shouldl be usuable for all levels.

i've gone back to ground zero with my playbooks while waiting for PDS 2.0 . i've started to look up every resource i could find for formation and route template information. after looking at how the defense AI looks at the offensive formations (i.e. 1 tight end, 2 rb, 2 wr,etc.) i decided to create a "filing" system when i name my formations. for example, formation "1-2-2 Split Back Normal" or "1-1-3 Single Back Normal HB". For defense, for the sake of simplicity when "looking up plays" i also name the defensive formations like "4-3-4 Normal". i.e. my system has three numbers before the name of the file so when i go to look through the list its sorted easily and i can more easily determine what type of formation it is.
i have also added a lot of route templates; for rb's types of runs (dive, counter, etc.) qb's drops and receiver routes.
obviously this is a work in progress and i like this system, at least its the best i came up with. i'll try posted the file on FBMAX for anyone who's curious with feedback or if it helps someone else along....at least to develop some ideas. I'll name the file on FBMAX plays&temps1..its a zipped file with the directory contained within named "Plays". this is not yet a "playable" set... it contains formations, templates, old default plays, but no new plays or old formation information. you'd have to rename your current "Plays" directory to say, "Plays1" and then unzip this in your maximum football directory to load this stuff in the PDS.
can't wait :o) for PDS 2.0

Sounds great jcd, should be very helpfull. Just a heads up, Mauradurs is working on a play (offensive) naming convention, so that people creating plays can use the same naming system. He can fill things in better, but the system will have holes numbered and ball carrier identifield. This should also help everyone creating plays and playbooks.

that's great about what Mauraders doing... one thing that dawned on me recently about templates was it would a good thing to be able to create offensive lineblocking scheme templates;i.e. a template for all of the lineman at the same time instead of doing them individually. that could also work for defensive line schemes too. adding as many as possible "little" timesavers would help create plays faster, quicker....

Are templates easy to use, I have not used that feature at all yet? I usualy create plays in a series, the backfield action will be the same for 2-3 plays, with the ball carrier changing, and these series could be used from several different formations. So it would be nice to have templates for the backfield action.

i forgot something. i uploaded MainDataTemps to FBMax. You have to use this file to view my templates because there is a route template section(you could do cut&paste within access i think to your own maindata) that contains entries for the templates i created. (i.e. when you create templates in the PDS it adds entries to this section of the maindata)

its time consuming and tedious to setup the amount of templates you really need to to make using templates "worth it". in the long term, i like the idea because once you have good templates then play creation should become less tedious. my approach now, within PDS 1.0, is to set my formations and templates all in place then come back and then create plays from there. to do a "good" job, i found it takes a lot of seaching on the internet (plus other sources..i bought VG Sports' books on Madden & NCAA to help with this)to get the info for formations/routes etc.
there are tons of routes that can be built. once PDS 2.0 comes out it should be easier to create them. its cumbersome with PDS 1.0 i figure this is a good start or a good experience in building them. the trick here is getting the hang of creating them and having good sources for creating them. i'm hoping when PDS 2.0 comes out it should only take some tweaking with them and that i don't have to start over again; but since Maurader's already working on this, if he wants, i'd be happy to help him out where i can if he would like me to... it is a lot of work to create templates and doing it by yourself will take time.

another thing about templates.

when you select a template while creating a play, at least mine, for some yet to be determined reason, the first command point always has two Move to commands. one of them has to be deleted. all of the other template information is the same as when the template was first created and saved. there's a few other tidbits about template making i'm discovering as i get more into it.

That would be a nice feature so we could transfer stuff over also since we are going with 12 men.

There should be quite a few more formations ready to use when this is completed.

I am creating naming criteria for this project.  Of course, no one will be forced to name plays by any standard, but it is a good idea to do so in this case, because many naming conventions have differing numbered holes and patterns and it didn't make sense to have so many different names. People will want to mix and match plays to their own preference, and it would become a mess if there wasn't a standard set for these playbooks.

Old Coach and nmleague have a good handle on retro and college playbooks.  I will be producing some standard playbooks.  If I have time, I will include a West Coast Offense, but we don't want to promise more than we can produce.

Something I think would be great is if we can save our plays, playbooks, and profiles in our own teams directory structure. Would make it much easier to find our plays instead of one mass directory. Also more beneficial to a running online league.

How about some form of a run & shoot offense and on defense the infamous 46 defense. Also, some zone blitzing would be a nice touch to the 4-3 defense. I'm trying to get my FB Pro playmaking abilities back. I lack the patience to stay with it as of this writing!!

i wanted to confirm something about PDS 2.0

from what i'm reading it sounds like we will be able to load our existing plays/playbooks/templates into PDS 2.0 and then edit them.

is this still the case?

thanks

Murburto dont bother creating plays at this time, the PDS 2 that is in the next update is much, much, much better, with a great deal more logic.

Im redoing my NFL 1959 playbook the defense is almost done, there will be 5 different 43 alinements, each with about 8 plays, two of which are blitzs. Im also going to do a playbook with a 34 defense, and the 46 isnt out of the picture.

I was able to load all my old plays and playbooks but they needed to be retouched I'm not sure about templates I never made any.

This all sounds very good. I would like to see a playbook with some I-cheat right and left formations. These formations would certainly belong in any West Coast Offense book.
