the giants and cards went 27 innings. isringhausen pitched scoreless 10.1 innings and threw 161 pitches. he was the last pitcher so the cards had no choices but a closer pitching 10.1 of scoreless innings and 161 pitches and giving up 7 hits and 0 runs! my question is do pitchers tire in the game?

I think I can solve this problem. You just need to put Chris Reitsma on the roster. No game can go scoreless very long with him in there.

i am really looking for a serious answer. i have noticed that pitch counts are kept so i figured there must be a reason for letting us know how many pitches a pitcher has thrown and then i see what izzy does and i wonder if pitch counts mean anything.

Absolutely pitchers tire. This is an extreme case where they left him in the game because there was nobody left on the bench. Its pure coincidence that he was able to pitch so amazingly well over that period. Take a look at pitchers velocity and number of hits they let up if you leave them in there too long, you will most certainly see the effect.
