Andy,
Just curious on how long a typical turn takes you considering the amount of forces at your disposal??  The AAR dosen't count. Some of us long suffering Allied players live through your play to have such a force at our disposal.

If I am in mid operation maybe 20 minutes or in stand down mode

If I am in planning phase hours but I tend to plan in between turns rather than on the live turn

Turns do not take long if you document your planning i.e. if you have to check the prep points of every unit every other turn it can take ages do it once and document it and keep it up to date and its easy.

I tend to think in terms of Corps and Armies now anyway

OK Quiet one except that PZB finally realised the best use of his CV;s

Commerce raiding is far and away the best use of KB at this stage.

Fast hit and run raids on my supply lines are almost impossibel to entirely stop and with troop convoys at sea cause extreme dislocation !!!!

This is a real threat he has a carrier TF (probably only one CV) between Pearl and Marshalls

There are several spots he can hit me like this a hit and fade operation is really what he should be using carriers for now.

Its harassing and annoying and with a large re deployment of my forces due soon - extremenly annoying !!! In other words its the correct tactic.

The only way to counter it is to have a reaction force nearbye (which I do have but that means that 2 of my CV's lose some yard time and by the time I get there he will have withdrawn).

Looks like I am going to have to strengthen all my convoy escorts

His oil stockpiles in HI are probably huge. Im not sure inderdicting his oil supply is going to hurt in the short to medium term. By the long time the HI will be under constant attack anyway. But sure will be fun time for the subs

Hmmm I am not so sure I dont really understand production but just shot down 1,600 aircraft in 10 days ...

He has to produce the aircraft he uses surely his economy is running at high speed now.

Lets say he has 2 or 3 million oil in HI by now what is an average burn rate for the japanese economy.

If he has 2 years supply then I am wasting my time I agree if he has 12 months then perhaps not.

You should have a bunch of CVE available for escort.
Also, you can use your death star aggressively to hunt down his navy in his own ports. you'll hurt him more than he will hurt you.

I do I have 8 CVE at Pearl and about another 15 supporting the Wasile Op (mixed CVR CVE)

CVR's are golddust DO NOT convert them into normal CVE's you will need every single CVR you can get your hands on they saved my bacon at Wasile keeping my Hellcat Sqns up to strength

The super coffee the military has works wonders for tired troops.

Could have used some myself while going through 6 years of college and working full time.

;)

OK some more good news and another few quiet turns.

I now have 4 activated B29 Groups 192 of these 4 E monster are ready for operation although I lack the lvl 7 AF to make them trly effective.

I think I may try to launch a raid on the Marianas with my carriers before the offensive kicks off a sweep to reduce his aircraft numbers before my transports are in harms way.

I think 11th Airborne will deploy into Wasile.

From wasile they can strike at a lot of targets which should give PZB problems

I hope so but his surface fleet is intact and the Marianas will require 2 full Corps on both Tinian and Saipan.

I am still trying to work out how I am going to manage the tasks of fleet defence, ground strikes and covering the invasion fleet.

Taking the fleet into the Wasile hex was a calculated risk that I dare not repeat in the Marianas.

Add to that I am struggling to manage a 1 day unload for 2 Corps which menas at least 2 shock attacks probably unload Amphib Corps on 1st wave and follow up with 3 Corps on 2nd.

A real defeat on either of those operations could impose a 3 month delay and cost me points so this is going to be difficult.

your success starts with one lvl 7 airfield
PZB needs to keep everything

Don't apologise - it's your AAR
A lot of us haven't reached this stage of major assaults so seeing the level of detail required is essential.
keep up the good work

p.s. shock attacks are triggered by atolls - Tinian and Saipan are islands - right ????

Ohhh you asked for it detail will follow when everything starts to get into place

Hmm I will need to check that one out I assumed they were atolls if they are islands that may allow 1 combat lift for the whole of 8th Army

I will need to investigate

If I outline the rough plan

Phase 1 Carrier raid to deplete PZB's trained fighter pool. An empty AK TF will go along to try and spring any traps covered by my full carrier force this is a bluff !!!!

Phase 2 Superfortresses from Kwaj operating off of a lvl 5 AF so therefore at extended range loadouts will close the AF's and Ports of all islands assisted by sweeps from Carriers.

Phase 3 Carriers return and re arm and re stcok on fghters.

Phase 4 Intensive Carrier Air and B29 Raids on TINIAN port and Ground Forces for 2 days supported by Bombardment by each of my 4 x 2 BB each TF's (only one bombardment at this stage per TF as I need to preserve ammo in case IJN BB'sw try to interfere.

Phase 5 Landings on Tinian by 8th Army and V Amphib Corps (4 Divs, 3 Armoured Regts plus Support) supported by 2nd Bombardment run by 3 BB TF's

Phase 6 Landings on Tinian by 3rd US Corps (3 Divs, 2 Armoured Regts plus Support) supported by 2nd BB run by 4th TF and 3rd (and final by 2 TF's)

If possible phase 5 and 6 will go in together.

Phase 7 Secure Tinian

Phase 8 Re arm all ships and replenish

Phase 9 B25J's and Thuds Ground Attack Pagan, B29's escorted from Tinian keep everywhere else closed, AE at Tinian re arms Bombardment TF's on round robin of Pagan and Saipan

Phase 10 III Amphib Corps lands on PAGAN

Phase 11 6th Army (I Amphib Corps, 11th US Corps) lands on SAIPAN

Phase 12 PAGAN and SAIPAN secured

Fleet Replenishes

Phase 13 Released from Army Reserve 9th US Corps (4 Divs) lands on Wake and Marcus

Thats my ideal plan to secure the Marianas, It wont work out that way but hey I can dream !!!!

I assume you will use B29's to KEEP the airfields closed not to close them? Unescorted they will be massacred by the tons of experienced fighter PzB will undoubtedly have in place. You have to use escorted raids from carriers to close them before sending in unescorted B29's

Yup sweeps to eliminate CAP followed closely by unescorted B29's

Phase 1 is the key try to trick PZB into committing against a fake invasion !!!

I may even land a Raider Bn to try and gather intel and make him think I am committing to the invasion just as a bluff to draw him out !!!!

To be honest I dont expect B29's to be decisive in this invasion I have to few of them operating at to extended a range I anticipate 1 raid per Sqn every 5 days so 4 Gps is 16 Sqns so maximum 36 B29's per day after day 1's all out effort.

My guess is I will be lucky to get 20 over the target area and that will drop as I suffer casualties

Have you got any bases/dot bases in one days sailing of Tinian for a round-robin here also?
(I'm sure you have already thought of it)

Well I dont really know what to say this dawg just dont stay down !!!

In he comes again this time BB's and a light surface TF.

The light Surface TF got caught up sinking 2 DD's of mine and didnt clear out the PT Boats

His BB TF came in with my PT Boats intact and it cost him 2 DD's but they did their job and screened the heavies.

The new Higgins or Elco PT Boats did their job though.

I am going to have to adjust my screening elements again !!! he just will not accept that these little raids are counter productive. Which of course means they are not as I will have to react !!!!

He wins this time I will react and commit more to protecting bases I could just ignore it but I choose not to this time

Wasile becomes an operational lvl 3 AF and my bombers and FBers are startig to operate in strength from the base.

If it gets to lvl 6 I may consider basing a single B29 Gp there for LR Oil Attacks.

Anything to spread out PZB's forces !!!

Managed to sink 2 ML's and damage another so not a bad start.

I have a small convoy with an aviation regt on the way to Wasile now covered by P38's

I have ran northern NG quite hard and supply stocks need to be refreshed I will be keeping most of my mediums and FB's in theatre but about 3/4 of the heavies and 50% of the P38's will move to the Marshalls

Convoy approaches Darwin where it will pick up ABDA Corps

Andy

Subs are getting into position and Beaufighters are starting to really cause dam,age out of Wasile.

I think this ops depth has really caught PZB on the hop but aftewr seeing the fort level at Noemfoor I had no choice.

He nails another couple of AR's from bypassed bases its annoying but I have about 50 of them at present so not critical the MLE that he hit on the other hand was one of very few available
