Now to distract you a bit. I have 2 B17C units in Darwin with no upgrade path and no B17Cs being produced. Should I disband these units? I am so confused.

Do I really want to start a PBEM game.

Seriously what happened? Is the game a writeoff?

Nah, game is not a write-off, but i can't say that i am not seriously disappointed in WITP's performance. Possibly (and hopefully) things that happenened in my game won't happen any more... but then again, this line from today keeps echoing through my mind ("Really, these are MAGIC beans!") Promises are so easy to make, and so hard to keep.

Things in my game just seem to go weird. Units march in one direction for 59 days, and they end up in the space they CAME from, not where they were supposed to go. Units stop moving after marching for 20 days or so - and i have no clue why. Reset - repeat ad nauseum. Units disappear and i have no idea why. Units fail to attack. Units attack that i didn't think i had ever ordered to attack. Units surrender without apparent reason (they had clear lines of retreat). Units move go to inane hexes when retreating. And this is just LAND combat...

i really, really hope the game is going to stop this stuff, but for a time this afternoon i thought of just erasing the thing from my hard drive. However, hope springs eternal, and i think by tomorrow i will rebound. i suspect all of this is just emotional spillover from work - people tell me things are at an all-time morale low... for my part, it seems to be so. Everyone else seems to be taking vacation next week...

Sounds like an "orphan" fragment...

Not sure you can disband them unless maybe you can get them back to San Fran in a real hurry. Apparently, they are going to take out the "disband at home base" function in 1.802....

Humans cannot solve the human problem. Only God can change human hearts, including mine. I trust in Him to set things right in His time and His way. I share the despair over the human condition with my Thread brothers, but point to a good God, who allows these things in order to draw us to Him, rather than ourselves as the ultimate source of justice.

God bless and long live the Thread.

Don't worry about that. No sensitive Danes around here, no Sir!

Seriously, I like Hamlet. A lot! My problem is with people who think that it's a serious representation of Denmark, past or present.

Aside from that, it's house cleaning, WitP forum, WPO patch testing, TOAW, and maybe a bit of World Cup action. I'm in a unique position with this afternoon's game between Germany and Sweden: I want both teams to lose!

You mean they didn't have Kings, Queens, Princes, swordfights and such?

Or you referring to the story of Royal Murder and Mayhem being passed off as actual history?

My problem was with another member of this forum, and his "joking" interpretation of Hamlet as covering everything he ever thought he needed to know about Denmark.

My country has a long, exciting and very bloody history, but The Bard never set foot here, and simply penned a work of fiction set here.

My agenda - finished book, made coffee - done.

Annoy and/or amuse people on The Thread - pending.

Still need to do: paperwork, WITP turn, paperwork, walk dogs, paperwork, and then there is that annoying pile of papers in the corner... and stacked up on the table... and the end table... oh, yeah, stuffed in the pidgeonhole over there...

Oh, so tempting...

The problem has come about for a couple of reasons: i was able to keep the constant flow of stuff in check by working 4 days per week, and demolishing the paperwork on day 5. Then, after taking this new job, the day off went away - but i recently renogotiated it, only to have it snatched away again with the current takeover crisis.

Unfortunately, much of the paperwork was to do with licensure. The various state governments have decided to regulate interstate commerce (which of course is illegal under the US Constitution) and the various professional organizations have decided to side with the various states (hey, who likes nasty competition?) Actually, it was the professional organizations that put the states up to it.

So, even though everything we do in done in Texas, the fact the patient has his insurance in (say) North Carolina means that i have to have a North Carolina license - according to North Carolina. This is another reason that the states don't want the biopsies sent to us - the insurance money leaves the state. This is a simplification of all the politics in the matter, but you can get the drift of it.

This means that i have to get a Medical License in every state that sends specimens to us. It used to be relatively easy, but lately, they have been going beserk with various requirements. Some of them include: fingerprinting, taking an examination in AIDS medicine, taking an examination in prenatal requirements for babies; taking a Jurisprudence Examination in the particular state you are trying to get a license in (most laws pertaining to sexual misconduct and drug dispensing, and since we never see the actual patient - totally irrelevant but hey, it will slow stuff down); making a separate personal appearance (be sure to bring your framed Medical School Diploma, framed licenses from other States, etc.); notarized birth certificate, notarized copy of passport, notarized copies of all diplomas, notarized copies of test scores; notarized copies of Medical School grades; etc., etc., etc. They keep dreaming up new stuff every day. And almost every day, there is a new request arriving on the doorstep.

And of course there is the usual day-to-day stuff: bills, taxes, etc. All of which has been piling up for the past 2 years or so. By a concerted effort for the past several weeks, i actually cleared the floor of stacks of stuff, cleared the card table that was stacked with stuff, and only have about 1/2 of the main table covered in papers. i won't mention the other stacks again, but i was not exaggerating.

i am sure glad they've gotten the government off my back!!

For me, today is work at 0930, but wait, I get a phone call at 0730 to come into work early for an emergency. Emergency is under control so all I do now is monitor until 6 tonight. Luckily, I brought my computer and have a turn. It's the end of the month so I have to update all my spreadsheets. I get to see how the past month has gone.

OK - dogs walked - that scared The Thread out of me!!

Nice day - low humidity, gentle breezes, temp in the mid-80's (was 84-85 when i returned, prob 83 when i started). Walked down to the end of the street, and was returning. In a semi-precarious situation - there was a 6 foot wide strip between the fence and the street, with oncoming guy on bicycle (which my dogs hate for reasons unknown) - and there had been a big dog rushing back and forth on the other side of the fence (and the gate open)... lots of traffic suddenly started coming down the road in the lane on the other side of the road... i am tense, on alert - i shorten the leash and look to find the little girl dog, on her back, legs pumping in the air, and p!ssing furiously into the air.

i figured she had stepped into a fire ant mound and was convulsing, and was a goner! i bent down to try to get an fire ants off - and found she was covered in sand-spurs...

What i think happened (she is fine now, and was fine as soon as i picked her up) is that she somehow stepped into a patch of these, they were all over her feet and hurt like the dickens, and she just panicked. She never made a sound, though (aside from panting). i have mentioned she is the most cowardly dog i've known... i had also considered the possibility of heat stroke, but she seemed ready to play as soon as i cut all the stupid sand spurs out of her fur.

OK - i think i'll just play WITP for a while... surely nothing can go wrong THERE...

Who cares about that. My opponent's Wellingtons missed Rangoon this past turn. Now that is something to cheer about. Heavy precipitation next turn so maybe Rangoon can patch a few more holes in the runway.
