Hi,

I just start another thread, cause the one asking for MWIF Merchandise has been hijacked, and turned out totally OT.

I've just finishing reading the 5 pages of the "When" thread, with all the updates from Shannon Okeets.

First, it's IMHO the best ever thread against piracy. Just having an insight of how much work and thinkering is behind the realisation of a game like MWIF, gives a better appreciation of intellectual properties rights. Playing one day the game without having the licence will now probably leave me the same feeling at taking directly 100$ from the autor wallet.

Second, I've learnt in that very thread, that the autor of the program is actually working for free : Mr OKeets will be paid with a percentage of the final sale.

Let's me say that for me this very program sounds like the holy grail : like many other in this forum, I am waiting this game since my first ever game of WIF, maybe 15 years ago ? Without saying that the price tag will have no importance, I'm sure I'm ready to pay a premium price for it, as from all of what i've read, the program will be up to all of what I can expect from it.

So, I've come with the idea of a "Premium", "gold", or whatever you may want to call it. It can have a little extra (signed/numeroted edition ?), or not, as it's not really the first concern. The idea is just to have a bunch (hopefully) of players ready to pay an extra for the game. My only condition will be that the vast majority of the extra price ends up directly in the autor pocket.

It's difficult to be more specific as I do not know the price of the final product, but I for one am ready to put an extra 50 quids.

Any toughts or reactions about my idea ?

Paul

Thanks for the vote of confidence. It is all the players who have been waiting so long for this game that keeps me motivated to finish it asap.

Now I like money, don't get me wrong. My wife likes it even more. But there is a signed contract I have with Matrix Games that dictates who gets what once the game is released. And there are others who came before me who certainly earned something as well - after all, I did not start with a blank sheet of paper.

David Heath reads this forum (he entered a post last week), so perhaps he will be able to make use of your suggestion better than I can. It is really at his level that physical production values are added (e.g., boxed versus download versus 'premium').

Hi,

Thank you for the quick answer. Your dedication for this game continues to amaze me.

When at first I read about a possible computer version of WiF, I just thought it was an impossible task : with it's very imbricated sequence of play, and the enormous difficulty of creating an half decent AI because of the variety of strategies and tactics possible, I never imagined someone to be crazy enough to raise the glove and try to do it .

Now, I've just spent about 4 hours just to read this forum, and I'm really delighted to see at which point you are searching to capture the very essence of this game. I'm a late-comer to this forum just because I'm just now convinced that this game will eventually be available, and that the version you are working in, will be the one I have dreamed for.

In fact, it was your attention to details, and the time and work put in every aspect that gives me the idea of a premium edition. Altough your obvious interest is to have the program finished ASAP, I've the feeling you have always taken the other route , and that the first priority is always the quality of the ensemble.

Well, I don't forget it's a team work, and that without ADG, a lot of members of this forum, Matrix, and Chris this game won't ever seen the daylight. Still, I think you are too modest : you are the main architect.

That's all the reasons why I want if possible a premium edition, and that you are the first recipient of the extra price.

If ever my idea do not see the light of the day, I guess I'll end up buying several copies of the game, but I'll really prefer the first solution.

Best regards, and please continue your wonderful work,
Paul

I would be willing to pay extra for a signed version if the extra amount above the base price went to the developer.

"Merchandising! Merchandising!" (I don't know how to spell it the way Mel Brooks says it in Spaceballs: moy-chandising...)

Developer's Cut DVD with commentary and special features, T-shirts, plushies, coffee mugs, bumper stickers, lunch boxes, the Shannon O'keets action figure, the list is bounded only by our imagination.

Matrix can market the boxed version with females models drapped across the hood. Like they do at car shows.

I think this project will merit some expansion modules (PaiF, AiF, Fatal Alliances, etc..) so some extra revenues could flow from those. I don't think I can afford a special edition of the game, but I will want every module as it becomes available, as will many true fans of WiF.

I would be willing to buy a premium edition - depending on the premium.  Price and content, I mean.

My main reason for posting is to say that although I'm not active here, I do drop by every once in a while to see the progress.  I'll definitely buy a buyer when it comes out.  Good luck and stay the course.

Please stop it, I can't seem to control the drool leakingout of the corner of my mouth.
