You should have been hunting enemy TFs with those BBs, not trying to use them to provide "hyper-flak"...

BTW - have you been careful to upgrade your US ships to make certain that they have radar?

Better luck next time...

castor -> yes, it was against AI
ADavidB -> all the upgrades to the date have been done.
i'm deeply dissapointed that my modern BB's didn't annihilate japs...

anyway... durng this boat trip my CBA managed to put some bombs and torpedos in ise and haruna and sunk atago and kako along with some smaller vessels. as for indiana, well... it is war after all.

No matter how individually powerful they might be, ships in CVTFs are sitting ducks in combat with an enemy SCTF, as are ships in ASW TFs and bombardment TFs. If you want your ships to engage effectively in surface combat, they need to be in an SCTF. I too learned this the hard way. Ships in these other TFs just aren't ready to fight against other ships, they are too busy doing other things.

On the plus side, it's June of 1943 and you are already to the Bonin Islands....

The war in the Pacific over by Christmas '43? The Enterprise and Hornet released from the Pacific in time to fly air cover for the Normandy landings?

(Also, American BBs vs. anything that can shoot back short of Japanese BBs=bad idea. Even with the radar upgrades, all it takes is 1-2 moderately lucky Long Lance torpedo spreads and you are out 200 VPs)

brits had retaken burma, malayas, northern sumatra and indochina; us is holding salomons and southern new guinea, gilberts and nauru, wake and marcus; ausies got northern new guinea, timor, ambon and wasilie in their grasp.
i'm having quite a lot of fun
soon my forces will strike southern philipines
