Cool! Now all you gotta do is bring back Carriers at War and Europe Ablaze!!

Used to play nothing but CAW EA and BF back in my old Mac SE days.

+1 for CAW
You would definitely corner the market in Carrier wargames. Of the recent games I think at last count there were ..... none. :)

With a scenario editor! Even if only the originals scenarios are included we can make our own for the battles around Guadalcanal.

Well it run just fine on my XP without DOSBOX or anything else. I does not fill the screen and runs faster than it should but it's perfectly playable. Same for the original Battlefront except that it is too fast for comfort.
Cheers

Here's another vote for an updated, modernized CAW. Loved that game.

I agree, bring both Carriers at War and Europe Ablaze back !!!!
Great news that the Battlefront game is coming back. I wonder if it will have the same system of command. It was great !

I remember when I bought CaW some 18 years. I was on Australia for vacation. I was so trill. Of cause, at the time, I did not haved a computer with me. So I read the rules book again and again before I came back home.  Them I played this title at least a million hours. WW2 South Pacific (from QQP if I well remember) was also very cool at the time because this one was playable with a other dude via modem.

I will love to see this master piece redone.

Another enthusiastic vote for CAW!  Please!  Please!

I know Gary Grigbsy is working on a more detailed tactical carrier battle game, but I enjoyed CAW much more than Gary's last carrier game.  I hoping for  good things from Gary this time around as well, but SSG did it right the first time.  I really liked the extra zoom in level found in the C-64 CAW version.

Leave Carriers at War where it is: in the grave! It's too old. And before you say anything, I played it with great enthusiasm back in the day, but it's just so damn dated now...

My problem with it is that they can't do much improving on the game if they're just gonna make a re-thread of it. Look at Matrix Pacwar and War in Russia. It has to be the same game, and the world's moved on...

I have CCAW set up for DOSBox, and I think I've played it all of ONCE...

The world may have moved on, but has the essence of WWII carrier warfare likewise moved? I don't see how it could really, since it is very firmly grounded in historical fact. Are we saying that battles like Coral Sea and Midway didn't really happen? Or are we saying that they did happen but must now be viewed from an FPS perspective, because the gaming world has 'moved on'? It would seem to me that there are plenty of people who would like to refight those battles on their current PCs and operating systems, and for the life of me I can't see anything wrong with that.

Didn't say that either. To each his own; but this thread was full of people wanting the game back, and I felt entitled to express my opinion as well, different though it may be...

I guess to clarify, I would love to see the concept of CAW taken and updated, sort of like Battlefront looks like an evolution of SSG games of old.

Carriers at War from SSG rocked, I bought the Complete version on CD from NWS and I love it even with the outdated graphics I dont care.  I would love to be able to play it without dosbox that is why I would also love for SSG to do a remake ASAP!!!!!! , heck keep the scenarios and game the same just update the graphics a little bit and have it work on XP with no issues and it would rock.

Even better would be to offer it cross platform so it could be run on Linux or Mac or...gasp...even XP. Personally I run it on Linux using DOSBox. I don't understand marrying a game system to a single O/S, especially Windows. Makes more sense to me to use cross platform libraries so you can broaden your market share but that's another story and I've heard all the arguments before. Linux Rules, Windoze drools!!

My copy of Carriers at War runs in a dos window in Win xp SP2 without Dos Box. You just need to configure it correctly. It takes just a few seconds.

Yeah, I can verify that too. When I first got my PC/XP CaW was the first wargame I bought for it having migrated to PC from old Mac SE. Used to be SSG was all I played, best computer wargames available. However, I don't run anything on Windows if I can help it. I don't know why it's so popular when it's such a crappy unstable insecure O/S. But I don't mean to get started on my personal opinions here...so nevermind me. The point is CaW is an awesome game which definitely would be welcome in a new upgraded modern version. Playing the Guadalcanal scenario right now as I type and the results seem much more realistic than UV, WitP, Pacific War etc. It's a cool game!

P.S. Hey elcidce! How's it going?

I LOVED Carriers at War. Played it on my Commodore 64 actually. But with Grigsby's WIP and Uncommon Valor do we need it? Was Europe Ablaze the air war game? There was a European Theatre airwar game SSG built that I played the bytes off as well......

I'd like SSG to work on something new and unusual rather than retreading old DOS games (though they were great in their time). SSG has limited resources and I'd like to see them put to good use.

I don't have much faith in WitP, especially when the Japanese start loading the 1st MarDiv onto their transports for invasion of Guadalcanal!! What hell is that?? And the overall results of the simulation seem skewed, whereas CaW seems spot on. I think CaW should be given CPR and brought back. Europe Ablaze too. They are classic games. Another thing CaW allows you to create scenarios from across the world whilst WitP restricts you to the Pacific. I'm playing UV, WitP, WPO, CCaW, CS, & GGPW right now and CCaW in it's DOS form still puts up an impressive showing. It would be great if it had pbem ability.
