Thank you Pasternakski (not kidding). I will use you comments when I want to do land movement. The Hermes decided it was going to retire to Columbo and would have moved within 1 hex of an enemy airbase when the way south was clear. I prevented disaster but one must be careful I will use Robert and you comments when moving land units.

After another day or so, the 2 units end up going NE to Sian instead of SW. Next turn - they are attacked and surrender...

But see, you had them ordered to move to a distant location, so the pooter figgers that they need to get on a road in order to make the trip as short as possible in elapsed time (it says correctly that their eventual destination is to the southwest, but you know how many odd directions the "AI" can move units in while they are wandering toward where they are going). They will not enter the non-road, non-trail hexes immediately to the southwest when a legal move onto a road is available to the northeast from which they can boogie faster.

I always micromanage ground unit movement hex by hex for this very reason. Trusting the AI is always a - dare I say it - Chinese fire drill...

Argh - i WAS micromanaging them. Until the turn before, the machine said they were marching SW - and they had progressed 58 miles to the SW - and then suddenly they were 60 miles NE - in Sian!!

And any attempt to march them hex by hex is fruitless - the units will stop marching (generally for NO reason i've been able to ever determine) after - oh - 14 days or so, and reset to zero, or an air attack will reset them to zero.

Actually, i'm not sure the air attack resets the movement, or if it is just random happenstance that the unit stops marching and i discover it after an air attack. i *THINK* it was the air attack, but i can never be positive about these things.

Ah, debauchery at its finest.

Personally, for the best drunk hangovers I recommend a premium tequila and nachos, or if not available cornflakes.

Im hoping to make a repeat performance tonight. Maybe i'll PUNT the cat a few times as well for kicks. It keeps following around because it has seperation anxiety from the other critters being gone. Nothing like waking up in the morning and staring bleary-eyed into a set of cat eyes sitting on your chest.
