ORIGINAL: rtrapasso After another day or so, the 2 units end up going NE to Sian instead of SW. Next turn - they are attacked and surrender... But see, you had them ordered to move to a distant location, so the pooter figgers that they need to get on a road in order to make the trip as short as possible in elapsed time (it says correctly that their eventual destination is to the southwest, but you know how many odd directions the "AI" can move units in while they are wandering toward where they are going). They will not enter the non-road, non-trail hexes immediately to the southwest when a legal move onto a road is available to the northeast from which they can boogie faster. I always micromanage ground unit movement hex by hex for this very reason. Trusting the AI is always a - dare I say it - Chinese fire drill... Argh - i WAS micromanaging them. Until the turn before, the machine said they were marching SW - and they had progressed 58 miles to the SW - and then suddenly they were 60 miles NE - in Sian!! And any attempt to march them hex by hex is fruitless - the units will stop marching (generally for NO reason i've been able to ever determine) after - oh - 14 days or so, and reset to zero, or an air attack will reset them to zero. Actually, i'm not sure the air attack resets the movement, or if it is just random happenstance that the unit stops marching and i discover it after an air attack. i *THINK* it was the air attack, but i can never be positive about these things.
