It's a weird ideia, I must say, but the more I think of it more I like... I was seeing all this people, posting - all of them wargames fanatics... that is the same as saying matrix fanatics... :) Why not Matrix creating a subscription plan? One will pay some 60 bucks year (or 80) and receive all games as they become available, in CDs with any patchs to «older» games, mails with patches bellow some 2 M, and mails telling about patches over that size... and perhaps a CD with goodies (scenarios, OOBs, updates) every six months... For Matrix it would mean sure cash flow, for us; besides getting the feeling of paying them back for W@W, scenarios and so on; would mean also that we would have the things as they're realised... or a little later but without any download... what do you think?

An interesting idea, but at $60 - 80 it would close a lot of people out - like me and surely others. I'd rather do what I'm doing - waiting until I can order SPWAW 5 + Mega ASAP. Your suggested business model seems to be basically that of the old SPI - Strategy and Tactics magazine, in this group there as some other fossils who will remember that. And also remember the unhappiness when the subscriptions - some of them quite expensive 'life time' subscriptions were lost when the company went under. I vote to continue to pay as we go.

yep.. I guess I kind of «overpriced» it... but in the W@W forum everybody appears to have the desire to throw some bucks at Matrix... well, there are certainly worsts thing to be thrown with... (don't know if I said that in any english.. not mention good!) Perhaps a kind of system in wich you paid a first premium (for all the games) and then a reduced fee... Anyway I knew it was a weird ideia... to become interesting it should have some 50 replys by now... :)

Not that weird, really, but another problem the idea can't deal with is the assumption that all games appeal to all players. Matrix is heavy into tactical games, and for good reason: judging by the forum activity, tactical games like SP and CL are *much* more popular than strategic games like WitP, or the "projects" of WiR and Pac. I'm more into strategy than tactics, I'm not likely to buy the SP mega campaign, but will buy WitP the moment it comes out, if it comes out. So, I would not likely accept the subscription idea, since a lot of what Matrix will be doing is related to tactical games that largely don't interest me.

Joaquim, your not off the wall at all... a couple of us had this discussion with Joe Osborne last year about the same thing- we kicked it around and essentially it came down to the same thing - high membership prices for knick knacks (shirts, coffee cups etc)and CD's gets old real quick. Not forgetting the cost of making/packaging/shipping the CD's. I liked the idea of buying your way into the development areas for a fee and getting to see what was cooking- Joe said that would be too difficult for the production teams. Maybe someone has a better idea that would work, keep kicking it around- you know that these Matrix guys actually DO read the posts and reply quickly as well. Ed- I'm with you about the strategy over tactical gaming but I'll admit I spend a fair share of my time with SPWAW- srangely enough I'm looking forward to better campaigns with the new version, I'm not too much on making my own and have beaten up the 4.5 campaigns vs computer, shame I'm not as good competing against real humans!
