I think that planes "see" a way too much when doing air strikes. That makes them excellent recon units. Put a couple of your planes fly across the map and you know exactly where the enemy is. Pilots don't have time and chance to look around when strafing. So planes field of vision must be straight ahead and only 3 or 4 hexes wide. That corrects the problem. Opinions about this please! Since recon planes were not included in our version of the game, we allowed passing aircraft to see a little more. I have not noticed that much being revealed but I will play a scenario with aircraft and take another look. Thanks for mentioning this ST...WB ------------------ In Arduis Fidelis Wild Bill Wilder Coordinator, Scenario Design Matrix Games

Aircraft spot less in SPWAW than in earlier versions of SP. And while aircraft do seem to "see" things besides what they are attacking, I do not see anything broken with that. I've spent most of my wargaming life studying WW2 airpower and I don't believe that you can take an attack run by a single plane to be happening in a vacuum. The attack aircraft from all nations typically attacked under the direction and coordination of a flight or squadron (or higher) leader. And that commander usually "orbited" the target area either before and/or after his own attack run. One of the main concerns of attack aircraft was hostile AAA and all attacking aircraft were on the lookout for it and reported it to their comrades (along with anything else they might see). So even though we might only see one or two aircraft attacking in a given battle, it doesn't mean that there aren't other eyes in the sky watching and coordinating and communicating those attack efforts.
