Greetings

Posted this on the general forum then I noticed this one is also for "tech" questions and not only for support so I thought of reposting it here.

I recently got this game along with War in the Pacific (even if that is a come back, I used to have the ancient SSI version) and, besides the annoying fixed screen resolution which looks blurred on my 1290*1024 LCD screen and I dread to try on my soon to come widescreen notebook, I'd say it's a pretty good one.

Question: with summer coming and work slowing down (and myself forced in the office for the whole of it) I'd like to take it to my office. BUT obviously, I can't install it on my work machine. I tried, with not so many hopes, to copy the directoy on a USB Pen, but it says there is a problem with the serial (obviously, it looks for it, I suppose, on the registry and it doesn't find it).

Is there anyway to make CoG "portable"? I understand it's not common and will resign if it's not, but would be cool to have, especially in the long and slow august days in a desert office.

A.

PS
The italian localization... reads somewhat funny in many ways. Is there a way to switch to the english one without having to reinstall everything? Do you accept volounteers for a localization revision? In case, here I am :)

If you know a bit about poking around in the registery you might be able to set up the proper registery entries on your work machine, but it would be a bit technical to try to explain otherwise.

The localizations do read a bit funny in places, but that's simply because the translations had to conform to fixed templates: revisions would not change that.  (I may point out that it is often the case that the original English reads a bit funny in places due to the constraints of having to forumulate sentence structures generic enough to handle a variety of tenses and numbers, though admittedly not as badly as the Italian.)

I don't know if there's a way to reinstall the English version once the Italian has been installed without having to reinstall the whole thing: I don't actually own a copy of the localized game! so I don't know how the installer for it is set up.  I'm considering ordering one from Black Bean.

Thanks for the reply.

Yes, I was pondering about poking around the registry as a last option, I shall try that.

Also the thing about localization makes sense (even if, some translations are just grammatically funny). I thought you were a developer and thus had access to all version :)

Yes, indeed it works by exporting a given entry of the registry and importing it on another computer.

Ah, joy of the long august days when alone in the office I'll be able to create my empire...
