What is TOAD Studios?

The Operational Art of war Development Studios is a collection of designers and players that love the Operational Art of War gaming system. The number of us varies because you have to include the beta testers as part of the team, they're a vital part.

Toad Tuesdays are the days that TOAD releases it's upgrades on. Beware, since like the Spanish Inquisition, nobody expects them. I can guarantee that we will never be late. We may be up to 6 days EARLY, but never late!

What can you expect on a TOAD Tuesday? Faster, Better, Cheaper, pick 2. (I'd recommend against the last one, you've already paid for it)

Seriously, you can expect several things. Possibly some new scenarios or updates by the TOAD team, program updated, etc. There are several kinds of program changes. I would expect most of the upgrades to be either Minor or Cosmetic.

1) Breaking upgrades, this was TOAW III. Any modules played on III will not play on COW. There will be few of these.
2) Major upgrades, if we tone down the AA in the next patch there is going to be a warning displayed when playing against any other version in PBEM. You're free to ignore that warning, although both players receive it.
3) Minor upgrades, this was the 3.0.0.14 Patch, it fixed reconstitution, but did it in the between turn segment. There is no restriction on playing between this and the original version, since there is no opportunity to cheat. You're encouraged to upgrade, however.
4) Cosmetic upgrades, these would be strictly cosmetic upgrades. Changes to the screen appearance, etc.

All the initial TOAD releases will be Beta releases. What does Beta mean? In TOAD terms, it means that we've tested it to the best of our ability. We're posting it in Beta form to help avoid calls to Matrix support, and more importantly, because we don't have a copy of every scenario, every OS every sound hardware, etc. In the rare event that a Beta has problems, expect us to fix it quickly. Please DON'T use betas for PBEM games. Coordinate with your partner to arrange for upgrading to newer release versions. You can either copy the entire directory or just the executable file if you need to run multiple versions.

If you have any questions, please post in this thread. Please understand that Matrix support neither knows nor cares about betas or TOAD Tuesdays (the heathens!) If you pester them too much, we'll have to figure something else out with a more limited beta group.

Thanks,
Ralph Trickey

WOW...this is great news!

You guys are going to be working on the fourth of July? WOW! What dedication!

I'm going to have to call David H and put you all in for spot bonuses!

On a serious note though your TOAD team along with the rest of Matrix have presented the wargaming hobby as a whole the greatest gift I can remember - returning a restored and improved TOAW. And now with a defined schedule for support...... Many thanks .

Thanks. It's been a lot of fun, and it should continue to be a lot of fun.

Just to make sure that everyone understands, not every Tuesday will be a TOAD Tuesday, if they were, how could they be unexpected? We're trying to tread a fine line between no support, and too frequent upgrades, angering people that are in the middle of PBEM games. Could you imagine restarting FitE every month

TOAD Tuesdays are often going to have 'themes'. For example, the next TOAD Tuesday will focus on performance improvements, The one after that will focus on the User Interface, etc. That doesn't mean that is the only thing that is in those releases, but that's the major focus. That will allow us to focus our limited resources on one thing at a time.

Ralph

TOAD Tuesdays are much like wizards in that "A wizard is never late Frodo Baggins, nor is he early. He arrives
precisely when he means to."

EDIT see, I knew they were just getting ready for the next episode of Pimp My TOAW

Shhhh! Don't say anything!

Because remember: No-one expects the Spanish Inquisition!

Oh yeah, thanks for reminding me, man I got to get back to work, losing track of the days here. Hmmm on second thought no, that's eight hours a day less of playing TOAW 3
