OK - decided to do a plot search at IMDB instead - the actual movie title is Beginning of the End (1957) - plot summary:

"Reporter Audrey Ames is driving along a highway in Illinois when she is stopped by the military. She then finds out that a small town was destroyed and everyone has seemingly diappeared. She then goes to a lab run by the Department of Agriculture. While she is there she meets the lab's director, Dr. Ed Wainwright. Ed then tells her that strange things have been happening ever since he discovered that a bunch of grasshoppers managed to get into a silo containing a batch of radioactive wheat. They soon discover that the grasshoppers have grown to monstrous proportions and not only are devouring the local vegitation, but have developed a taste for human flesh as well. Now the locusts are marching towards Chicago and the military is threatening to destroy the city with the atom bomb. Can another solution to stop the monsters be found before it is too late?"

Curse you, Homer Simpson, for supplying me with misleading information!!

"Homer: If we learned one thing from “The Amazing Colossal Man” and “Grasshopperus,” it’s that radiation makes stuff grow real big, real fast.
Marge: But didn’t Grasshopperus kill Chad Everett?
Homer: Only because he tried to reason with him."

Well turned out to be a 3 hour lunch. I've paced myself though so i'll be functional for a dinner date with the misses later tonight.

All being well i'll be home in time for a WiTP turn vs Faber before heading out........

Nik turn = 1 - 1 & 1/2 hours. Faber turn = 20-35 minutes. You do the math. You should get a turn tomorrow (hopefully) if not sunday

Well, I'm off early today. Gotta buy new uniforms. On the up side, I'll get to the turn in my inbox early and the wife and daughter are out most of the evening. I might get 2 turns done tonight.

See you guys tomorrow (or later tonight if I'm waiting for my turn).

Mike, I'm going to take a wild @ss guess and say that you are looking forward to a little Witp tonight.

Yeah, it was a great night. But.......

Yeah, great special effects, too!! They spared no expense in obtaining the FINEST postcard pictures of Chicago sky scrapers for the grasshoppers to crawl up!!

Actually, a can remember this scaring the Thread out of me as a (iirc) 7-year old when it came on TV.

Alright. I caught up. Man you guys sure know how to spout.

Back to my WitP PBEM.....

As you know, I hit a significant BB force in port at Adak. Here were the results (note that all the bomb hits were 800kg types ):

BB Tennessee - 6 bombs, 2 torps
BB Arizona - 5 bombs, 1 torp
BB Pennsylvania - 3 torps
DM Gamble - 1 torp
CLAA Juneau - 1 bomb, 1 torp
CA Astoria - 1 bomb

Next turn, I moved my carrier force a couple of hexes, just in case and went for the jugular. The pilots decided to sit on deck and play the Japanese version of pinochle. No one flew. I got a second turn back last night and they flew! Here's the verdict (this is in addition to the above attack):

BB Tennessee - 2 bombs, 1 torp (800kg bombs again )
BB Arizona - 7 bombs, 1 torp
BB Pennsylvania - 3 bombs
CA Astoria - 1 torp
CLAA San Diego - 1 bomb
1 DD hit by bomb (massive explosion - ouchie)
1 DD hit by torp

I still didn't see any ships sink. Even if none of them sink, the US BB fleet is hurting. He currently has 9 old BBs and 3 fast BBs. Two of the old BBs took torps a couple of weeks ago (2 and 3 respectively). Neither sank (I don't think) but they're out of the war for awhile. Then there's the 3 above who are hurting badly. The Arizona had at least 4 5" turrets destroyed this last turn.

I think my opponent made a bad mistake in the Burma theater. I control Akyab on the coast. I have an infantry brigade, eng regiment, art unit and HQ there and he has a UK division in the hex. We spend a lot of time just looking at each other. He decided to bombard the place 3 days ago and did a number on the brigade. His TF consisted of Valiant, 2 CAs, 3 CLs, 3 CLAAs, and 6 DDs. I expected the TF to leave but they hung around. I have a daitai of Zeros and 2 of Bettys on Andaman Island just waiting for an opportunity. They were playing pinochle too. The next day the Royal Navy TF bombarded again and stuck around and my planes did nothing. The TF still didn't leave. This past turn they bombarded again. Finally, my planes struck. 28 Betties hit the Valiant with 9 torps. Glub, glub. 9 of 28 hits. I think that's the best % I've ever seen for a good sized strike. The Royal Navy is really hurting. Early in the war, he tried to bombard with the 4 R class BBs and I caught that and sank 3 and damaged the Ramillies. He's currently down to Ramillies and Warspite. I think he withdrew the Warspite and the Ramillies is still under repair. I know the Repulse survived but was heavily damaged early in the war and may still be under repair. He has 2 carriers (max). My fortress of Andaman Island is keeping his fleet (what's left of it) in port.

Here's the bad news. I got up early this morning hoping to get another turn. Nothing. I waited over an hour and nothing. I decided to look at my game to kill time. Note that this was about 10 minutes before I had to leave for work. When I looked at the turn, I noticed things I would have done that were not done. At that point I realized I hadn't sent the turn (nor finished it). *Slaps self* Dummy. Now I have to wait until tonight to finish the turn. Doh.

What's the date in your game Mike. In my game Alaska is as backwater as it can get. He has a couple of base forces there. Our troops just stare at each other across the water and make faces. Nothing else happening.

His 2nd invasion of India is on though. After a month of nothing giong on, we have action finally.
