How do you enable speech in windows XP? I've never done that before.

You just need to go into the option screen and check the box within Puresim...

Yeah, I had to enable it in my control panel as well. When I did it, all I really got was a voice saying......"at bat so and so". Is that right?

That is all I hear - at bat so and so. But, if you auto-play games, you will hear your team results if choose not to manage the game. That's it as far as I know.

I asked about expanding it for more play by play, but no one liked the idea. To me even M S Sam is better then
nothing.

I would love to see PBP speech as well. Even if it won't be 100% clear.

Any chance, Shaun?

I think more speech (including PBP) is a GREAT idea! I wish it could be expanded in all ways possible. Can we persuade Ernie Harwell to enhance just one more baseball game for us?. If not, I'd gladly settle for the computer voice being genereated now...

...Perhaps "gladly" is a tad too strong when commenting on the computer voice quality...But, anyway, more PS speech is still a good idea...Lee

Or at least have the speech do homeruns calls first from some of the great announcers.

I'd like to hear speech in the PBP, assuming it comes from real anouncers, and not computer generated speech.  Maybe have a few dozen canned phrases from a real announcer ("ground out to third", "single up the middle", "struck him out", etc.) Of course this would be very limited and wouldn't include players names, but its a start.

When I was doing the Umpire calls for this years version, I was considering sending Shaun some canned announcer phrases, but the more I thought about it, the more I thought it would get REALLY old listening to the same clips over and over and over.  Even if I recorded a hundred of them, you'd start hearing the same ones over and over and just turn the feature off.  Thankfully, the umpire sounds haven't had that affect on me yet.

I feel there's just enough in there now to make it good, and any more would be overdoing it a little for a text sim.

P-fan, you're right. Even if you did a hundred more sounds, I would tire of them soon. In my son's video baseball and NASCAR games, the canned announcements get boring and in a hurrry.

Just one man's opinion, but I feel that the bulk of any changes at this point should be directed toward anything making the game more realistic, as it relates to statistics or strategy.

With PS's main competitor apparently on a down cycle, we're seeing an influx of new blood. There are a lot of good ideas floating around out there.

I'm not sure I agree about it getting repetitive.  If you just added a human voice saying simple phrases like "single up the middle" or "fly out to left", then it wouldn't be any different from reading the same text over and over.  Its when you start to get cute, saying things like "Say goodbye to that one!!", that would get real annoying real fast.

I have to agree with jimboj. More speach would be fun. You could have maybe a few ways to say each happening, but nothing to flashy. That should keep it from getting annoying.

Interesting thread, because when I first added it the number 1 request was to turn it off. I think its pretty much integrated as much now as it will ever be; I played with adding more but it got too chatty.

Of course I am always open to ideas on this stuff.

Being an old EWB fan (still play it too) I love the speech. One cool addition would be announcing the pitcher and pitching changes...
