Interesting read. The much maligned Shermans with their 76mm could out preform the famed 85mm equipped T34 mediums. And the King Tiger's armor was no where near as indestructible as popular sources indicate; it actually seems to be inferior to the PanzerVg.

Hi all,

hm I cannot read the link. However, there was a dsicussion about the Kingtiger on "Forum_der_Wehrmacht", a forum about the German forces in WW II in German language.

I assume that the link shows postwar testing of the Kingtigers armour. The resumee of the discussion was that the steel used for the kingtigers might be worser than in the years for 1944 and that , therefore, the armour was not so formidable as the thickness says. However, if I remember it correctly, there is no evidence that the front armour of the Kingtiger was ever penetrated in combat.

Furthermore, the resumee of the discussion was that the Kingtiger might be more reliable as assumed. Most tanks were lost to lack of gasoline and not to breakdowns....

Kind regards,

Great Soviet analysis. I guess that the MG 42 was just another machinegun, the ME-262 wasn’t really an impressive jet and the V-2 was so inaccurate as an IRBM as to be a jester too. Unless you got killed by them. The Abrams is more like the Tiger (murderous main gun, imposing armor, “King” of the battlefield) than the Sherman (the sixth Sherman will get you!). When you ask your best men (and now women) to fight for their country’s very existence, then they deserve the best weapons, not the best excuses.
