Update 2006/09/08 The dedicated server is no longer available but the chat service is.

Under the guise of Stratsims I'm able to leave a dedicated server up and running for a while.

IP: 72.21.228.42
Port: 14342 - ODB aka Original Database
Port: 14343 - PDB aka Players Database
Port: 14344 - DB2k aka DB2000 6.5.31 downloaded 7/5/2006
Port: 14345 - ANW DB 1.4 as shipped with H3 3.7.1.0 (Currently offline, contact me to play ANWDB)

The server has been stable since I turned MPLogging off in the harpoon3.ini file. Occasionally the clients come unsynched and the clients crash but the server piece itself has been pretty stable.

at HarpGamer Chat to see if anyone is waiting to challenge you.

If the server does appear to crash, chase me down at #harpgamer on the NewNetIRC network or e-mail me at sysop@tgp.net. There is a link to Java IRC client at HarpGamer

If you want to see scenarios added/removed/swapped out please e-mail me the scenarios in a single zip file to sysop@tgp.net and I'll make the changes.

The connection isn't super fast, T-1 so if you all show up at once there could be issues. I'll leave the server up as long as cooling capacity and my interest holds out or I actually put the server into its planned service.

Brilliant affair!

Adrian (Xxup) and Bob (Heva) were excellent mates.  We played for over 3 hours!  Please don't delete the Big Bash game so that we can continue.

A great time was had by all. Thanks for putting up the server.  I'll try to find some more multi-player scens for us to enjoy.

I see Destruya and Heva on the forum.  You guys up for a game?

I'm on the ODb server.  We found some 3-sided games that we can try if anyone shows up.

Thanks Tony for setting up the server!!  I just played my first multiplayer against Herman, who showed me the ropes with Dawn Patrol.  I'm hooked on MP.  Great challenge!  I think I even managed to sink a patrol boat or two ...although he probably let me!  Thanks Herman!  Thanks again Tony!

Well, Bob [Heva] and I had a good game going with End Run. Unfortunately, the server decided to crash just as my SSMs were about to hit his carrier. Now, if that isn't luck, I don't know what is!

Hopefully, we can get the game re-started once the Server is re-set. Another great sesson.

We just had a fellow drop in and sign onto the server.  Unfortunately, he left without telling anyone that he was there and we only saw him on the way out.

So, folks, if you want to find someone to play, try dropping a message on this thread or else visit the Java IRC client at HarpGamer and letting someone know that you are interested in playing a game.  We can't see who is in the lobby unless we are in there at the same time.

Just letting everyone know that a couple of us are getting together on the HarpGamer server about 2130h - 2200h [GMT] Saturday, July 15, to get a game.  Anyone interested in joining us is most welcome.

The server is also up all day, so you can make use of it as your convenience.  No need to wait for us!

Choowee and I just ran through the Chaperones scenario. Too us three hours, but we had a great time throughout. Thanks for the use of the server. Even with my pathetic dial-up connection, we didn't suffer a single crash.

I just found a nice utility someone wrote to persistently set processor affiinity when running programs.

http://s16.quicksharing.com/v/6178652/setaffinity.zip.html

This allows me to now run the H3 server from batch file, one server per processor, so that the H3 server executable restarts itself when the H3 server piece crashes. Other hints, 3.7.0.0 has some memory write issues so I turned off data execution prevention for the H3 server executable and also turned off windows error reporting to help keep the autorestarts clean.

The final and very helpful thing I did was turn off MP logging in the harpoon3.ini file.

We had our first 4-player game this afternoon between CV32, Choowee, Pirimeister, and myself.

All was going well until the intervention of the Wife / Wives.

Maybe another requirement for MP play is that you need to be a bachelor?

Anyway, everything was nice and stable while it lasted. Hopefully, we will get to try it again in the near future.

Wow! What a great day!

Nearly the entire community seemed to show up on HarpGamer IRC.

I got a bunch of games in. A really close game with Choowee over Power Sweep. Thanks for the scenario, Dave Steinmeyer!

And fought like a demon with Evaamo on End Run. It was a titanic battle. (I'm not kidding.)

Thanks again to HarpGamer for the use of their server!

Hehe, I beat Herman to Choowee, but we loaded from a save and let Herman in, then I got to sink his Burke with some 16" shells from my Iowa. I was impressed at my shipping batting away those little SAMs stinging at me. Good thing Herman used the heavy stuff to sink Choowee.

Great 3-sided game, T.  Very cat-and-mouse-like.

Thanks for the game, Tony and Choowee.  See you tomorrow night, maybe.

In my memo to the Secretary of the Navy, I defended myself by blaming the intermittent radar. I was unable to turn it off once I had engaged it, and every few minutes it gave me away!!@@

Well, the 'Secretary of the Navy' has already been informed here:
Bug Report: Sensors won't turn off Intermittent
Let's hope that they decide to fix it before another ship is sent into harm's way....

Hello everyone...

11 hours from now there will be a game or two available at the server.. Please let us know your interest.. If we get enough players then there could be a couple of three or four way games possible..

Cheers

Okay folks, this will almost certainly be the last weekend of the Stratsims server being available for your use. My old server is getting quite cranky so I need to put the new one into daily service instead of using it to host H3 games .

So play often this weekend. We will still offer the chat services at HarpGamer and once I'm transitioned to the new server we may host a H3 ANW server on the old hardware.

It's been fun!

Hear ye, Hear ye!

There's going to be a war! All are invited.

XXup and I are planning to be on the server 3.5 hours from this point. That's 1600h MST. Do join us if you have a chance to help us send this server into the Harpoon sunset.

Anyone interested in joining us can either leave a message here or meet up with us on HarpGamer pHp chat room or the HG mIRC chat room.

Holy Cow! We just played an 8-hour game between XXup, Evaamo, and myself. What an epic adventure. Only one minor crash throughout.

It was a fabulous three-way affair involving Kilos, Russians, Japanese and the PRC. In the end, the Kilos got through after XXup and Evaamo ganged up and annihilated my Japanese defenders. It was truly a colossal battle the could only have been played with HarpGamer providing the server.

Our hats off to you, Tony. You're a prince to let us have so much fun with it.

wow where to start...

first of all: Thank you Tony for hosting the server. You have provided, again, lots of fun!!

We had an 8 hour multiplayer session. Yes, you read right: EIGHT STRAIGHT HOURS.

We played a great 4-sided scenario using the DB2000. It was 3 of us at it, leaving the US forces to the AI.

It was great to play in a sort of "cooperative multiplayer" way, as I had chosen the Russians and the Chinese were my allies. It changes the whole multiplayer environment, really.

Next time let's hope we don't have to leave a side to the AI as it unbalances the scenario, but then again that means we need more human players willing to play online

The other great aspect of tonight's session was that we only experienced one crash, it was great fun and the game did great regarding speed.

Noticeable things:
- We were unable to hold private chats using the game's chat system. The only way we were able to communicate was using the "ALL" setting. We then had use to use irc to coordinate our actions.

Anyway, long story short: we had a blast!! Thanks again to my gaming partners tonight: Herman and XXUP.

And thanks again to Tony for providing us with the server. It was great!!

-E
