Back from the cinematic excursion. "Dead Man's Chest" wasn't as good as "Curse of the Black Pearl", but pretty close...

Damn, now I almost have to go see it.

How does Johhny Depp sound in Danish?

What makes you think movies are DUBBED in this country? We can actually read here, you know, and anyway most people around here speak English well enough to not need subtitles.

Silly call-center person moving up The List...

LOL. You will have to elaborate on the differences sometime. I have worked for a number of US firms, but I have never gone jetting off the the VPs mansion. Sounds like a grueling schedule you poor lad.

Seriously when life calms down I would love to hear more about it. Enjoy!

Hi Niceguy,

My take on it is this. In many ways this company (US firm - Riverbed) appears to be the opposite of my last company (UK firm - Added Dimension). During this past week the whole work ethic and approach of Riverbed has been there to see. In many ways I see it as being better but I need to get used to it and adapt.

In short, there is a hell of a lot more motivation and energy arouind all echelons of the business. Also the focus on targets and money is greater too. Not that in the old job it wasn't but it wasn't emphasised in such detailed terms on a daily basis.

The language and terminology used is vastly different with terms, acronyms and jargon used much more often repeatedly. The above 2 differences are the hardest to adapt too at present.

There is also a much greater pace of work and quantity of work associated with the job. I must say though I don't attribute this to it being a US firm but just to it being the nature of the company and the role (I was expecting this and the same could apply to a UK firm).

Well better get booking my flights to San Francisco today............

You work for Riverbed????!!!!!! I might get angry emails from you one day.

Glad to have you back Robert. Its always a joyous occasion when the house is filled with loved ones (even if it does tend to remind you how much you grate on each others nerves in close proximity ). Have a great time, but The Thread still expects at least one post a day, and "Dad, youre weird" is not a valid excuse not to post.

BTW, any other grognards in the family?

No, not really. Chris (son) does like playing RPGs of various flavors, but not wargames per se...

Only if you think you might like DIVORCE 1.0 and POVERTY 1.0, 2.0 and 3.0!!!

Let The Thread by your mistress!

Two weeks can fly by, even if they might be miserable.

Moving up the list....yes!

You know, they told me that Germans all speak English. That was slightly misleading.

I do indeed. In the UK mind you. Are you 'call-centering' only in the US?

Not at all. We handle some of the logistics for Riverbed (not sure how much, however). Most of the stuff that comes across my desk is for asia, but I do see some europe stuff from you guys now and again.

Good morning to all.

Speedy, I am thinking that since you are changing time zones 7 or 8 hours you may want to fly on Saturday.

Sure. It'll give you a day to sleep off the jet lag and another to visit the Hornet. On your way back, you can drop by New York and meet her sister.
