do i realy need two almost identical torpedo planes? what is the story behind this two versions? is one of them for usmc and another for navy or what? (the same goes to avanger I and avanger II...)

They were essentially the same plane, but the third letter refers to the manufacturer code. F was Grumman (I think) who probably had to free up their production facilities to build more Hellcats. M was General Motors who took over production in their facilities. They also did the same with the Wildcat, as they built the FM-1 and FM-2 versions of the F4F.

I think GM put in a more powerful engine and upgraded the forward armament after they took over production too.

Yep it's all about the manufacturer. Grumman Aircraft built 2290 TBF-1 planes and General Motors built 7546 TBM-1, TBM-1C, TBM-3 planes. The production stopped during autumn 1944.
