Well in the "spirit" of WPO ... any bases you have or can gain that support eventual blocade of Japan will earn "brownie" points at least. That was the strategy of WPO, obtain positions (such as Manilla, Bonins, Ryukus) which would support an air/sea blocade of Japan and cut her off from overseas imports. The dependency on imports was (correctly) seen as the Japanese weakness. So, regardless of outcome, that is the mission.

The problem is that IJN can transport to home island so much by the time blockade takes place that any blockade becomes pointless...

But not in reality .. hence the "spirit" word ... but also .. at least currently .. what is being transported is fuel and supply. And at least when I was playing ... operating every transport ship full time and I was just barely keeping up with requirements (though fuel was shortest).

If Tanker is decreasing Japanese merchant fleet ... and adds back in production system ... requiring resources and oil also to be transported, I'd think blocade could be made less of a "spirit" thing and more of a "real game" thing.

I finally have enough C-type blimps (range 3500, yee-haw!) to make another squadron of them. Unfortunately, their HQ doesn't have enough supplies to allow me to do so. How can that HQ be short 30 units when the base has 7,000 extra is beyond my understanding.

Three ships missed part in this grand bombardment: Rhode Island, New York, and Delaware, all recovering from torpedoes received last week.

Needless to say, No. 45 became No. 12 on the Japanese submarine casualty list. As my opponent remarked dryly earlier, to an IJN sub to 'sink on sight', means to capsize upon sighting an American destroyer ;)

That was before my carriers (No. 45 went down from 2 hits from CVE Hornet).

Sakhalin is about to become a major battlefield. Already three Japanese subs reached Shikka; frankly, I am surprised. They must be some damaged ones - more when I learn of their numbers.

8 units are now in Toyohara - up from just 2 base forces. This is surprising too.

In the good news, it appears IJN still has only 6 commerce raiders.

USN will have 90+ in 20 days.

A busy turn.Capt pulls yet another of his dash-and-runs; I lose 3 DDs sunk and a bunch more maimed. My battleships and carriers arrive a turn too late and catch nothing.

Looks like it's a bunch of small units in Toyohara; shouldn't be a problem. Of course, it does puzzle me how a bunch of soldiers with bamboo swords attacked and routed 15 heavy tanks, but that's besides the point...

Are you and CAPT the only people still playing this game!?!?!?

In many ways I like it more than WITP. WPO is a true "Naval" game, whereas WITP is really more of an "Air" game. But alas, WITP has a drawing power that even I can't resist. Though I don't get to "play" it any more either.

I'm sure there are a couple of other games :)

I like WPO better too. I'll be first to admit: WitP is above my level of ability. I purchased it - and haven't played a turn. I love having the database though. ^_^

Can't wait to see the new WPO patch so I can mod it :p
