As a big COG fan, I will say that I very much am looking forward to the release of this game! Can't wait... as an Iowan, it is fun to see the state actually modelled with land areas on the map. Typically in these grand-strategy games we are "off map" (Victory Games' Civil War, SSI's No Greater Glory, etc.)

The map looks fantastic, but as I peer at it - I think Massachusetts is spelled incorrectly - looks like you left off an extra T at the end there.

Ack, a typo! Are you talking about the governors screen, showing the whole map? (That one is a superceeded map.)

Yeah, the map goes all the way to Cuba (not playable), Canada, and 'Indian Territory'. Not historically big battlefields, but they *COULD* have been!

I assume Canada isn't playable either?

I really enjoy having the extra space because I love to try out unique (read utterly weird) strategies. I always appreciate more options.

Oh, you can play all the way up into Canada. Might do some harm to your relationship w/ the UK, though! (The beta testers will have to weigh in re: how often that happens, though.)

The overall map I was referring to is the screenshot that is prefaced by "Map view of military groupings... " - you can see the "t-less Mass" name there at the upper right-hand corner.

That's interesting news re modelling the British in Canada.  The "Trent Affair" may yet come home to roost!

Oh, yeah... that's a superceeded screen background.

Yeah, the involvement of the European powers was a real issue that we wanted to model. IIRC, during the Trent Affair, the UK moved 30,000 troops to Canada in preparation. Perhaps Eric or Gil or Mr. Z would like to comment more about the inclusion of the European powers.

If Great Britain is not at war, then Canada is off-limits to troop movements.  If GBR enters the war, then Canada becomes mobilized and its units come under the control of the Confederate player.  GBR will also send some fleets and a trickle of new brigades.

If France enters the war, some French brigades enter the map in Texas.

If France intervenes, does the Union Player get to use any Mexican Bandits or Guerillas?

The idea to add Mexican Bandits/Guerillas is interesting, one I hadn't considered.  We could use the special abilities to model these sorts of units.

That sounds great I will put all my efforts into diplomacy and get Canada and then we'll see who wins the battle of Gettysburg.;)
