hi all,
I played ANW multiplayer last night for the first time and must say it was great fun indeed. We did have a few game crashes and were able to reproduce some of the bugs previously reported, such as the circling torpedo when fired BOL.

However, I was unable to find in the bug reports an easily reproducible behavior, which is that regardless of the "weapons tight" order, my units would still fire their weapons.

I made sure they were not on intercept missions nor threatened by the enemy unit.

Has this been flagged or reported as a bug by anyone before?

thanks
cheers,
-E

hi there Dale, thanks for replying man.

I will make further tests and report back...I'm almost sure my units were not assigned to any mission or commited to an intercept...I will try again to remove the "almost sure" in this line before posting further on the issue

By the way, were you able to gather any info regarding the HoJ feature?

thanks again man,
-E

I had a slightly different problem with Tutorial IV. The only way I could get anything to fire was to leave 'weapons loose'. Did I miss something? (Besides the attacking planes.)

Weapons tight means they won't fire. Weapon's loose means they will.

Something else funny going on?

I just ran Tutorial IV. I think that you are correct.

Unless you hit the "~" hotkey and go to "Weapons Free" mode, the frigate will not fire on any targets because you are holding them on "Weapons Tight".

Another consideration is that the contacts often show up as "Unknown". Until they do something hostile or you manually classify them as hostile with the 'H' hotkey, the frigate will not fire on them EVEN if you are on Weapons Free mode.

One of the aircraft was actually able to close and torpedo the frigate because it took too long to visually confirm that it was hostile.

Yeah Herrman's right you've got to make sure they are classfied as hostile too. Incoming missiles will be automatically classfied. Airplanes, ships and subs may not be.

If you really wanted to you could set your realism level to instant side ID or lower. Don't suggest it though as autodetect and full realism are closer to the way things work in real life.

IIRC the guys were working on some updated tutorial missions at some point. Have no idea the status but sure they'll do a good job.

Hi All,

The Tutorials updated with the ANWDB will be part of the patch release coming shortly. I'm not sure exactly when the patch will be available, we're still testing some things.

I think mikmyk is close, but I thought that I could fire 'manually' even in 'weapons tight' by selecting the frigate, pushing the 'attack' button and then clicking on the aircraft. Is that incorrect? He ran into exactly the same problem I did with the aircraft dropping a torpedo that is just as effective as the E45-85 in Harpoon Classic.

The problem could well have been IFF because I ran the scenario several times at different levels of difficulty.

No, you are correct. In manual control mode, you should have been able to engage any unknown, neutral, or hostile target you like. The game will prevent you from firing on friendlies, but you should be able to manually fire on any others. In my test, I had no problem engaging Unknowns.

The situation I encountered with the Bear / May torpedoing my frigate is definintely not a bug. The DB editor has decided that the particular weapon is capable against ships. Different DBs have different ideas on how weapons work. Therefore, a certain weapon like that torpedo will work against ships and subs in the Original DB, but it may well operate differently in the PlayersDB.

I had a similar problem in Tutorial IV. When I tried to fire on the second aircraft 'manually', the window which was supposed to appear after double-clicking with the attack-cursor on the hostile aircraft did not. Any ideas ?
