When I install the command it asks me for "CODE," with a red box to enter the code? What code? I put in the Serial number but that comes up as invalid. It then says the game will run in Demo mode with limited functionality. What is this about? There is no mention of having a code in the installation procedures. Or is this something that is just popping up. Although I don't have:

I do not have "Map Zoom in/Out:" On the Game or View "Drop Down" menu.

And the opposiong sides surrendurs after the first turn...

Just a guess but have you made sure you are entering the serial number in upper case? I don't know if it is case sensitive but it worked for me as all upper case. Also, you should have had to enter this same number when you installed the files on your PC...it's that same number/letter combination that you entered then.

As to the map zoom/in/out, it appears the Palm users got an older version of the game than the windows users got. The question as to what is missing from the Palm version was asked in another topic but received no official answer. It appears that simply by comparing the documentation to the Palm product we have our answer (as scant as the documentation is).

As to the opposing side surrendering, hmm, that hasn't happened to me yet.

BTW: It kind of surprises me that the Pocket PC edition is newer and better than the Palm edition as Microsoft requires software that runs on newer Pocket PCs to be signed. In other words, the developer has to PAY a fee to have their software on newer Pocket PCs. Kind of a rip for those developers that were generous enough to give their software away for free (JWPCE, PADict, etc...) as they can no longer afford to do that.

Another note: Matrix should specify which version the screenshots are from on their site so that customers are not misled in believing they are getting the refined Pocket PC version's graphics on their Palm.

dumasclub,

The same code you received for the installer should work fine. Please double-check that you were entering it exactly as you received it, with the right case and hyphens and all, no extra spaces.

There are differences between the Palm and Pocket PC versions, we'll try to make that more clear.

Regards,

- Erik

To unlock the game you need the full version which is a separate download. Demo cannot be unlocked. If you enter the code in upper- or lowercase doesn't matter. If you run the game from a memory card, please make sure that there is no cached copy of the demo in the main memory. If so, you may need to remove the demo from main memory. Palm OS 5.x caches frequently used programs, even if you attepmt to run something from a SD card, the previously cached copy will be invoked.

It is not necessary to pay for digital signing Pocket PC software. Even Opera's browser is not signed (at least it wasn't a few weeks ago when I was last installing it). The difference is that when the software is unsigned the user is asked if she/he wants to run a specific program and that this may be unsafe. Signed software is also available from MS marketplace. Apart from this, I don't see any other benefits.

Developer tools for Pocket PC are many times better than tools for Palm OS. Although there are people who complain about quality of MS products, I have never met anyone who would be complaining about developer tools produced by MS, they are really good. I will save you my opinion on quality of debuggers and device simulators for Palm OS. Even the C++ debuggers for PPC are much better (well, at least they are stable and don't crash), not to mention C# and the managed code that reduces testing and number of bugs.

Furthermore, Palm OS lives in the world of 16 bit code - this means that code and resources (bitmaps, sounds etc.) must be in chunks not grater that 65536 bytes.

This is just to explain why it is a lot easier to develop for Pocket PC than for Palm OS, even though personally, I prefer the UI in Palm OS.

I tried to run JWPCE (a Japanese text editor) on Windows 5.0 (forget the real name and can't be bothered to look it up right now) and was given an error that it couldn't be run because it was unsigned. This was on a brand new Windows 5.0 device newly purchased. I did a quick search on the net and found several sources saying that anything that wasn't signed could NOT be run, period. I was willing to do anything to get it to run but two days of intense research yielded that it just wasn't possible.

Things might have changed since then (this was about 5 months ago) but I've already purchased a Palm because of it...and I hated having ot purchase a PDA at all as I can't stand em (except for the one app I wanted and now Blitzkrieg :)

Maybe your device has been locked somehow. I have tried several devices with WM 5.0 and I could install every software I wanted. None of them was signed because I was getting a warning message.
