Bottom of the ninth, 1-1 game, good guys have runners on the corners no outs. Batter sends a line drive to left, 317', left fielder catches it, runner on third breaks for the plate, left fielder throws to the cut off man, he's not trying for the runner tagging up, game over.

Maybe it's a case of "Sometimes you're just so deep in the outfield it's not even worth trying"? Didn't want to injure his arm? Ran into the wall? (grin)
