It's probably something I'm doing wrong, but has anyone else had problems getting planes to drop bombs. I had three F/A-18s with 1000lb bombs circle an enemy runway over and over firing their guns, but they never dropped their bombs.

PErhaps is was because I sent them after the individually airfield by cauing them to "intercept" the airfield. But I had been unable to make this particular unit accept any mission whatsoever. Any ideas?

Hi bstarr, the best way to attack airfields and installations is to ungroup all units (I usually have a seperate window for this very purpose) by selecting the window you wish to do this in and using the 9 key on your numpad *with numlock OFF* to seperate them, then pick one of the individual targets on the airfield this make yield better results.

Be advised also some weapons will not be deployed against certain targets because they are *unsuitable* for the target it will used against. I am not sure if 1000lbers are deemed acceptable against a runway, you will be more looking at proper anti runway weapons usually to do that job.

Your best targets with the 1000lbers will be (hangers, revetments and the ammo dump. Air defence units could also be attacked with these weapons, but I think that would be a waste of powerful ammunition) I think you will cause more hurt that way, unless you have proper runway denial weapons such as *Durandals*

Always check each units weapons by using the report button in the unit status window ( im sure you know how to do this but I thought I would check ) this will then show you how much ordanance is left on the wing pylons of the aircraft. Be aware that a bomb drop does not always mean a hit, they have plenty of chance to miss

I hope this is helpful, I just wanted to make sure you had this info before any more troubleshooting is done

Can you provide additional details?

What scenario were you playing?
What altitude were the planes?
What speed were the planes travelling?
Which database are you using?
What EXACT weapon were you trying to drop?
Mk83 1000lb bombs? GBUs?

Please give as much detail as possible. Every database is different and each editor makes his weapons behave just a little bit differently.

If you have major problems, you can post your saved game and someone can help you look at it. Matrix does not have the capability to post up files, but these two sites will allow you to host small files:

SZO file archives - Home of the Harpoon3 PlayersDB

FilesOfScenShare

I read the tutorials and figured it out; it was just me. Now I know how to do missions and everything works okay. I had owned Harpoon back in the day, and thought I could just jump in and start playing.
bs

ps. I'm the type of person who throw away intructions before I get started on a project and then have to dig them out of the trash. It's no wonder I tried to play without reading the tutorials.

Ok, you say you have it fixed now, but I had a problem the other day, using a ground strike mission against an enemy base, using 500lb bombs on A-6 Intruders. When they got to the based, I got video of the machine guns hitting a hangar, but the bombs never dropped. Is there something else you have to do on a mission?

Wow that was fast. Default database that came with version 3.7.0 that I just purchased about 4 days ago.

Thanks

I will have to wait till it happens again, sorry. But it has happened in more than one scenario.
