I am going to be starting up a war vs wneumann with me as Japan and him as the Allies.

This will be a wneumann free zone, as I am planning on posting strategies (such as they will be ), thoughts and so on.

We're going to be using CHS 2.08 scenario 158.

Some ground rules that we will be using.

Japan:
1. No on the map training other than the training mission-A pet peeve of mine and I want to see how feasible it is to avoid bombing defenseless places to train. I will use bombers to interdict supply routes and ground units...but I will endevour to avoid using fighters in this role just to "train them up".

2. Historical oppening

3. Jap sub doc "On"

4. PDU "Off"

5. Allied sub doc "On"

6. Allied damage control "On"

7. No units outside of their assigned command zones-This is one to grit teeth over...but it is a fact that the Army would have (and did) have kittens about sending large ground forces outside of their own sandbox. The IJN will just have to suck it up and try to horse trade for what they can get via PP's.

Allies

1. No 4E bombers on Naval Attack <10,000'

2. Same rules on command zones as for the Japanese.

OK, after some difficulties using the PM system to exchange e-mails we are on track.

Here is my basic plan for the initial expansion.

1. The goal will be to seal off the PI, NEI and Malaya from the rest of the world in order to cut off reinforcements, bottle up oil and resources inside, and trap as many military forces as possible. The land can be occupied at my leisure once it is cut off...I have a 6 month supply of oil on hand, this is my time limit.

2. I have to make the South China Sea safe for my shipping. This means that Clark Field, Manilla and Hong Kong have to be siezed.

3. I need to bottle up the eastern exits from the NEI. To this end Amboina, Sorong, Kendari and Timor are all good targets.

4. I will try to cut the Malaya army in two without placing my landing forces in jeapordy of a naval or air raid from Singapore. This means that most of my supply runs will be to Singora. I will move the Division that lands in Khota Bharu on a SW tack in order to cut off his northern armies...in order to prevent him from panicking I will move slowly in the north until this manuvuer is completed.

5. Taking Davao seems useless at this time...although Cagayen will have to be nuetralized. Aircraft operating from northern Celebs and possibly Jolo should be able to seal Davao off...as well as catch some traffic fleeing the PI.

6. SE Fleet and 4th Fleet are both in need of immediate reinforcement. I will try and force the Army to release a Division for operations in these areas as soon as is practicable.

12/9/41

The strike on Pearl went very well...two confirmed sinkings of BB's and all the rest damaged. Then I forgot to change their orders and they hurled themselves against Pearl on the 8th leading to 21 losses in exchange for more bomb hit on already crippled ships while a whole slew of shipping gathered just W of Hawaii (including that juicy CA and DMS group)!

After this action the Kido Butai was divided into divisions...CarDiv 1 and 2 will proceed to Kwajelein where they will be used to cover 4th Fleet, and CarDiv 5 (which only includes fast ships) will be used as a mobile raider group. To this end the Mobile Force's tankers have been exclusively assigned to CarDiv 5.

Elsewhere I am planning on using CarDiv 3 and 4 to cover Southern Area Army's attack into the NEI.

This leaves Southeast Fleet out in the cold a little...but their Nells and Betties should be able to make up the slack...plus if the US decides to commit his CV's in this theater, CarDiv 1 and 2 are near enough to assist.

Many amphib operations are now in motion with the goals of seizing airfields at the perimeters of the main battle areas.

Specific Theaters

Malaya: I have already got base forces in position at Khota Bharu and Singora...and the IJA has taken up residence. Their mission will be to suppress Singapore airfield.

PI: Paratroops land at Puerto Princessca hoping to bag the sesaplanes there, but noone was home. The usual landings in the usual places occur...but I have a few surprises up my sleeve...as soon as transport can be made available.

China: A friggin' mess. I cannot continue with more than local offensives until I have secured my rear areas from all these guerillas. I am half tempted to leave it well enough alone and see if the Army will loan me a few divisions for use elsewhere.

Home Front: Every faactory making useless junk has been shut down. I don't plan on major expansion or retooling until I have the NEI secured and my supply needs have been reduced. At present I am forced to dole out supplies to different theaters in very small doses due to lack of reserves. The last thing I need is to have a major operation delayed due to a lack of logistical support.

As an aside, how do you make screenshots? I would much prefer to post maps here

December 8 is a surprisingly quiet day. No Allied air losses at all and 3 Japanese planes all lost to ops.

CarDiv 1 and 2 continue to make their way W towards Kwaj/ Wake and CarDiv 5 makes a speed run out of air detection range to the NE. CarDiv 5 will rendevous for refueling and then slide into the SF-PH shipping lanes and see if it can get a Marine Division or some aircraft.

PI:

Nothing surprising here...Japanese ground forces consolodate on northern Luzon and make supply dumps, preparing for the drive south. I am concerned about Baguio...the mountain NE of Clark...with the mountain bonus the Americans can hold well here, and the roads go right through this place.

I am thinking of an amphibious flanking attack on the beach just E of Manilla (forget the name) and then threaten a march into Clark from here. This should force the Baguio defenders to either withdraw to Clark, or face getting trapped in their mountains and being pinned by smaller forces in their hex, while the main Japanese thrusts take Manilla and Lingayen.

MALAYA:

We are forcing a quick march from Khota Bharu to the SW towards Singers. The goal of this attack is to trap the forces currently defending in Georgetown and Alor Star between two armies. Once this manuver is nearing completion we will launch a heavy offensive from Singora and wipe these troops out before making a comgined attack on Singapore.

The goal is to kill as many British troops as possible in the open, and take a weakened Singapore by storm (good luck ).

BURMA:

Prep actions are taking place here...Burma command is moving into Siam, and Burma Area Army is gathering it's Divisions and tanks. Depending on the situation in ~2 months, we may make an amphibious operation aimed at Eastern India in order to cut off the retreat paths and air support for North Burma.

As an additional advantage, cutting off supply to China cannot help but be useful.

CHINA:

Bleh

I have detailed several free Brigades and a couple of free Divisions to anti-partisan duty. I have to secure my LOC's before we can press further into China propoer...of course this is giving him time to dig in, but I have little choice. I cannot risk getting cut off in the middle of China because my rail line got closed by a battalion of irregulars.

Things are begining to go into motion.

The IJN has organized several small raiding groups (generally consisting of a CA/CL plus 3-4 DD's) and these are launching nightime raids against merchant shipping in the DEI. The goal is to clear away small patrol units and destroy as much merchant tonnage as possible. This will keep oil and resources in place, and also help to keep the Allied logistical buildup down to a more manageable level (or at least that's the theory).

Have not sighted the American CV's so I assume that they fled into the South Pacific.

Small groups of Engineering and Naval Landing Forces are being made available for 4th Fleet and Southeast Fleet. I am trying to push the invasion schedules up in these areas so that the Nells and Betties can move in immediately upon completion of their missions in the DEI.

Until they get there the job of providing sea control and air cover over these two zones will belong to the mobile force.

Mobile air cover in the DEI theater will be by CarDiv 3 and 4 supplemented by land based naval aviation.

MALAYA:

It appears that the British are abandoning Malaya. recon shows only 5 bomber type aircraft at Singapore, and the 55th (I think...need to take better notes!) Division entered Alor Star today unopposed.

The precipitous withdrawl might endanger my plan to cut the Malayan army in half...to counteract this I am moving paratroops to Saigon and will drop in 2-3 days to cut the railing on the west coast.

My Division attacking from the East (the one that lands at Khota Bharu) is making good progress SW across the penninsula. They engaged and routed the remenants of the Khota Bharu defenders again today and their pursuit carried them 15 miles through the mountains.

Supply in Malaya continues to grow, and I anticipate no problems feeding the additional forces now on their way for the attack on Singapore.

PI:

The Americans seem to be abandoning Manilla. Apparantly Dugout Doug doesn't want this beatiful city shelled...

Likewise Baguio is being left weakened and the largest mass of American forces are just beyond in Clark Field. In my opinion this is a mistake, despite Clark being malaria free. The mountains are a much better place to defend at, and the malaria hits both sides equally. Also with him abandoning Manilla, I should be able to reduce him to a single airfield (Clark) which will be easy enough to keep closed with army dive bombers.

BURMA:

Attacked a large merchant convoy at Rangoon from Bankok today. I am unsure if this is supply coming in, or troops going out...either way their plans have been crimped.

DEI:

Invasion fleets sailed for Amboina and surrounding islands today. The goal is to get Betties between Australia and the DEI ASAP.

CL Isuzu and 4 DD's snuck into Palembang harbor last night and raised absolute hell.

The final score was 3 AK's sunk, 3 TK's full of oil crippled, 30 Buffalos and 3 Vildebeasts in crates on the AK's drowned.

the raiders got away clean.

The next morning saw MASSIVE convys off the coast of Rangoon...at least 6 TF's totaling perhaps 30 ships were seen. Unfortunately rain and range made our torpedo attacks less than an all out slaughter, but we still got torps into 4 AK's and 3 TK's plus an AK in the S China Sea. Many of the ships had troops onboard, and one AK had fuel cargo.

I think Wlater is trying the Sir Robin theory...I am not facing stiff opposition anywhere (except Hangchow, where 3 Chinese Corps stopped a Divisional attack cold, and San Fernando where the provisional arty managed to beat the snot out of my amphibs...I will probably lose on AK...and I have to unload again tommorow to get supplies on the beach.)

4th FLEET:

Kwajelein is empty of AP's and is in desperate need of reinforcement to meet it's strategic goals. OPERATION AZRAEL (Fiji/ Pago Pago) will go first supported by OPERATION GABRIEL (Canton/ Palmyra). GABRIEL is more of a feignt as I don't think I can really hold that close to the Americans without more troops. AZRAEL is designed to help cover RAPIER, which will be a pretty shoestring affair.

SOUTHEAST FLEET:

Invasion convoys are about to pounce on the lightly held areas that Allied troops can withdraw from Rabaul and Kavieng into. OPERATION BROADSWORD (the invasion of Rabaul) is awaiting troops from Japan. OPERATION SABER (PM) will go in soon after and will be concurrent with OPERATION RAPIER (the Solomons). RAPIER will definately be sucking hind teat on this one with SABER getting the most and best support. To cover this AZRAEL will be going at the same time to make lots of noise, and CarDiv 1 and 2 will be present to break up any naval interference.

SOUTHERN AREA ARMY:

OPERATION WINTERNIGHT (Amboina and surrounding bases) is well underway. I am slightly worried about the lack of information on Allied surface units, so WINTERNIGHT is probably over escorted. I *think* his surface forces have left the theater by and large...but without proof I cannot risk it. I must ALWAYS look to force preservation as one of my highest goals...high risk moves at this stage really don't get me anything I won't get anyways.

OPERATION EVENING BREEZE is coming together. I intend to run CarDiv 3 an 4 together through the DEI in an attempt to cull out some of the poor quality Dutch pilots before numerous bomb runs on lightly defended ships can make them competant. Todays destruction of 30 Buffalos at Palembang will go a long ways towards this goal.

MALAYA:

My Northern armies are advancing rapidly, taking advantage of the precipitous flight of the British units here. I am unsure if I will now be able to cut them off before Singapore...but he has abandoned Singapore airspace and so this is less important. I can now blast Singers from altitude with replaceable Army Bombers in order to reduce their supply potential. Also the lack of air cover here is allowing me to run light raider units into the heart of the oil producing areas of the DEI and put a quick stop to his resource evacuations before they really get underway.

My goal is to create such a rapid tempo of destruction that I can unerve him completely and force him to withdraw farther than he needs to...I think this is possible, even probable due to his already demonstrated desire to withdraw. If I can push him far enough and fast enough I might have a chance of invading India...certainly I can cut China off, which may or may not be helpful at all.

PI:

American units are fleeing to Bataan without any real pressure at all. In giving up such good defensive positions as Baguio, San Fernando and Manilla he is handing me time. I have no problem botling the Americans up in Bataan and bombing them mercilessly while my army goes off to do other things (not to train...I won't use fighters in this role...but to keep the Americans incapable of offensive action).

Paratroops today dropped on Lucena and tommorow on Lamon Bay...both of these attacks would be more meaningful if I was actually cutting anyone off! As it is they are nice in that they keep the tempo high and the pressure on.

Hong Kong is TOUGH in CHS. I have 2 Divisions there now and am moving armor in, as well as 4 Arty units.

CA Pensacola was caught guarding Tarawa atoll by 2 CL's and 4 DD's (one of my raiding forces). Pensacola ate a torp, and one of my CL's took 4x8" hits...sys and flood in the mid 40's, 19 fire. I am running her back to Kwaj. The invasion of Tarawa was delayed for a day while a heavy surface force sweeps the place and CarDiv 1 & 2 get into position to lend support.

4th FLEET:

Basically on hold except for minor adventuring until reinforcements arrive. The South Seas Detachment should be arriving at Kwaj in a few days after it's foray to Guam. I will make good use of this powerful unit at either Fiji or Pago.

Long range Naval Raiders have entered the southern shipping routes from Panama (i.e. the channels). Hopefully this mission will bag some AK's full of aircraft.

SOUTHEAST FLEET:

New Britain is invaded and BROADSWORD is underway. The first step is to take the two bases that the enemy might withdraw towards...Gasmata and the dot N of it. I am worried that the Allies will try some surface adventuring here and there's not much in the way of heavy Japanese units to contest it.

To counter this threat I am moving torpedo bombers down to Truk from elsewhere as the political situation allows (108 PP's to release a Betty group...so not quite one every other day.)

SAA:

WINTERNIGHT uncovers the defenders at Amboina...4xPT's. A surface sweep should move them off before the hammer falls.

A new operation has come together.

OPERATION NORTH WIND is the invasion of the W coast of Borneo. This action is only possible due to the evacuation of enemy air from Singapore. The first target of NORTH WIND is Kuching and it's level 4 airfield. Once Betties are stationed there the entire Western Java Sea becomes almost untenable for Allied surface groups. Combined with some Zeros to sweep Batavia and Palembang, we should achieve dominence here quickly.

This will allow me to base BB's close by to Palembang and Batavia both and run attack missions until EVERY SINGLE ENGINEER IS DEAD . All of them. Every last one. I will not invade until these areas are ghost towns and my troops can just walk in.

OPERATION EVENING BREEZE might be rethought. CVL's and CVE's are especially vulnerable in CHS and I can achieve much the same result by conventional fighter sweeps from LBA. I think I will retain CarDiv 3 and 4 as a mobile reserve and cover for my invasion groups against possible Force Z or other surface interference.

BAA:

Not much here...assets are still moving into possition. However Betties and Nells operating out of Singora and Bankok are doing great damage to shipping evacuating Rangoon...another 8 ships are torpedoed today.

CHINA:

I have the beginings of an operational plan in the works now. No name or OpOrder yet, but the general target will be Homan. If I can figure out how to screenshot, I will post it in better detail.

Been too busy to post recently...

Not too much unexpected going on atm...just making sure that operations already under way continue smoothly.

CARDIV 5

On it's patrol CarDiv 5 happens across a lightly defended convoy of fast liners ferrying the 2nd Marine Defense Battalion to...somewhere...fortunately they won't get there, and my NFL's won't have to fight them on the beaches of Pago Pago or whatever because they're all trying to swim back to San Fran from about 800 miles away

Now that the ghost is up on them, CarDiv 5 have about one day to charge into the shipping lanes for other targets, then they have to haul ass...3 American CV's would not be healthy for them to run into.

4TH FLEET

Things are going along smoothly. Tarawa fell today and Baker will fall in one or two more. AZRAEL had a new target added to it's list today. We are going to occupy Nauru Island and use it as an airbase to cover RAPIER. From Nauru Betties can stalk the whole of the Solomon Islands...and Zeros can reach most of the battle zone. The only down side is that I will need to retask many construction troops to building this place up...and if/ when it falls it will give the Americans a good flanking position...

SOUTHEAST FLEET

Troops are on the ground in New Britain and have cut off all retreat paths from Rabaul...now if only I had the troops to follow this up right away. We ran into a surface ambush at Gasmata that cost me one of my slow CL's (the 18 knot ones) to two Australian CL's. Clearly SOUTHEAST FLEET needs naval reinforcement...and CarDiv 1 and 2 are busy covering 4th FLEET...it is something of a dilema...but I should have plenty of cruisers available soon from operations in the DEI.

SAA

We took Kuching by Coup de Main yesterday, and a base force was part of the assault wave. We managed to take the airfield undamaged and imediately flew in two Daitais of Zeros, one of Betties, and one of Nells (well half of one...flak over Singers has been brutal...). This force should be able to close down the western Java Sea to Allied shipping and, combined with Singapore being abandoned, give me easy and fast access to the area for assault convoys with little cover. I plan on moving all available NLF units around picking off small bases here and there to try and create a mental state of defeat in Walter...he is already pulling back everything he can, and this is allowing me to get cheap wins on territory that I *need* to take...and leaving me the possiblity of reaching far and hard into a main Allied stronghold...or of digging in unmolested on my perimeter.

PI

Got two Divisions ashore in Naga and they will Blitz to Manilla...from there the troops trapped at Lingyan and Baguio will be trapped...and if he withdraws them to Bataan to avoid being cut off, then they are STILL bottled up with no organic supply source. Isn't it nice when a plan comes together?

MALAYA

I cannot advance fast enough on the West Coast to keep up with retreating British units. In the Central mountains, the 18th Division is now holding 6 units in place...the original 4 from Khota Bharu and two new Brigades moved in to reinforce. The 18th probably can't break through...but that's no longer their mission...they are now tasked with holding as many British troops in the center of the country as possible while the western attack force drives south to cut them off.

Reducing Singapore by air attack is going to be BRUTALLY costly. Japan has lost 109 aircraft to flak so far...nearly as many planes as the Allies lost on the ground on the first two days. Air to air losses, OTOH stand at 10 Allied and 3 Japanese...I may wind up sending in hordes of rank ametures on suicide attacks to do the damage.

OK.

First attempt at posting a picture, so bear with me

And it WORKED!

This is the current position and planned action of CarDiv 5.

As you can see we ambushed a convoy carrying the 2nd Marine Defense Battalion over the past two days, and I think I got them all.

Now we need to get out of Dodge before the American CV's show up.

Number 2.

4TH FLEET

This is Phase I of AZRAEL.

Baker Island needs to be made into a level 4 base ASAP. Construction troops from SAA will be released to 4TH FLEET as political points become available. These troops are currently in Formosa, and I anticipate upwards of 3 weeks to get them in place...then 3-4 weeks getting the base up to snuff.

So this is where the KB *must* be for the next 2 months...backing up AZRAEL due to the lack of LBA support.

Once Pago and Fiji are secured the routes to Australia and New Zealand will be very long and very vulnerable to interdiction. But the key is to not overextend so close to American power...I must be able to have an interlocking grid of airpower and I must be able to use barge traffic for logistical needs so as to lessen the risks on my Merchant Marine. A tall order...but this is the outer perimeter on which the Americans will shatter their fangs in '43 (we hope)

Next up

WINTERNIGHT

You see those two little PT TF's?

They have been driving me INSANE!

My amphib group has retreated from the Amboina hex THREE times because of them.

Surface sweeps kill one or two...but I have already had 2 DD's torpedoed in exchange for maybe 6 PT's...and three days of time that shipping fleeing the DEI is not being sunk.

It's enough to piss off the good humor man.

Also we had a little bad luck today. 6 PT's paddling along, out of fuel, from Manilla to Soerabaja happened across 3 AP's...and sank TWO!

An NLF has been thirded and I have had to abandon my attack on Tomini...which means that the Manado defenders will run off into the jungle.

My plans for MALAYA

As you can see Walter's precipitous retreat from Northern Malaya has placed most of his forces into Singapore...though I am partly to blame. I should have launched the attack on Mersing a week ago.

To be fair, I was (and am) unsure whether he had simply withdrawn his airpower back to Java to avoid my bombers, and because I cannot pummel Singapore into dust due to heavy flak losses this makes an attack on Mersing dangerous.

However with Kuching up and operational now, my recon assets are able to probe about and I have found that the Allies seem to have abandoned the defenses before I even got to them. This means that I have taken very light casualties (just 3 ships so far...compared to 80+Allied) excepting for single engine bombers (who suffer the worst against Flak).

At the least I can still cut off maybe three Bdes plus assorted other troops if I move quickly enough...and the bloodless nature of the campaign is a good bonus as well.

Haven't had time for an update in a while. So here's the current situation in Malaya. As you can see the British line across central Malaya has been shattered by a combination of an unstoppable advance down the West Coast and an amphibious assault that is threatening to cut the LOC's from Singapore to the field armies.

It is now a race to see how many troops can make it back to Singers without getting cut off...unfortunately it looks like it will be most of them.

On the plus side there is no way that Walter will be able to evacuate more than cadres from these units using subs...Japanese airpower now totally dominates the region.

Elsewhere things are going as planned. I will update other areas later.

Quick update

All opertions proceeding on schedule.

Lack of reinforcements to 4TH FLEET and SE FLEET are severely restricting the ability of those commands to pursue aggresive attacks.

Manilla captured 12/24/41. American garrison apparantly had abandoned the city.

The Army is unwilling to commit to a major attack in the South Pacific...this is unfortunate as the Americans are very weak in this area and a quick strike could save us a lot of blood. We are organizing several NLF's...but these will not be in theater for perhaps 2-3 months. In the meantime we are using every political trick in the book to prize away construction units, AA units, BF's, and small combat units and shipping them to 4TH FLEET and SE FLEET as quickly as possible.

Total losses will be posted at the end of month sitrep. However at this time some interesting trends are showing themselves.
1: Total A2A losses for both sides are 14 so far...3 Japanese and 11 Allied.
2: Total Japanese naval losses so far are 4 ships, total confirmed Allied are 94 ships.

From this it is obvious that Walter is gaining the benefits of his strategy of withdrawl, however the downside is also readily apparant...Manilla has already fallen and soon the Americans on Luzon will be bottled up on Bataan...where I will probably let them rot while my Army does other things, and Singapore is soon to be besieged...I doubt it will make it past January.

This means that after January I will have the bulk of the SAA (minus what is needed to mop up in the DEI) sitting idle. Clearly I will not have the political power to convince the Army to use these men in the South Pacific...so I will have to find another use for them.

My choices are:

1: Dig in.
2: Declare that India is now a part of the SAA theater and attack there.
3: Declare that Western Aus is part of the SAA theater and attack there.

1 surrenders the initiative...but will prevent me from becoming over extended.

2 Seems possibly gamey to me...though the only other command that might have claim to India is BAA...which has neither the resources nor the mission for it. Also in CHS capturing India really serves only to place your main Armies right where the British can easily attack them without a long, dangerous, ocean transit.

3 Is more reasonable than 2...but is there a good strategic purpose for it? Will attacking W Aus really do anything for me?

Ideas and commentary are welcome...

After some thought I believe we will go for Western Australia with SAA after the DEI is wrapped up.

My main reasoning is like this.

India would require the use of my entire army, and I would have to take it all or be caught with a distant, open, front. I believe that the better course here is to garrison Burma enough to prevent an overland assault, and use air power to stop any amphibious attacks. This is a natural defensive line, and since in CHS you cannot knock the UK out of the war totally, it only makes sense to stick to it.

Holing up in the DEI is a decent move, but it would leave a springboard open in Australia...also many oil fields are in range of bombers from Darwin. For these reasons it seems imperative to nuetralize this threat.

The disadvantages of being on the ground against the Australian Army are reduced by the weak LOC's from E to W Aus...as long as I can maintain control over the sea lanes to this area I should be OK.

Furthermore when it comes time to withdraw from the mainland, I can jump back onto prepared positions in the DEI...this is my main defensive belt in any event, and I am not really losing much by falling back to here.

Update

4TH FLT

The big news here is the impending invasion of Canton Is. The entire KB is now on hand to deal with any interuptions, and the South Seas Detachment should make quick work of the defenders. Once Canton is in hand GABRIEL will be wound down. I don't have the ground forces to both take Palmyra (which is in easy bombardament range of Pearl) and the rest of my 4TH FLT objectives.

SE FLT

Rabaul has been taken and it is now time to begin moving down the Solomon chain. Operation SABER is being put on hold due to a lack of troops and air support while RAPIER moves ahead, albiet cautiously.

I am being seriously hurt by the lack of ground units in SE FLT and 4TH FLT, the net result of which is a rather slow rate of advance (no conquering the whole of SOPAC in a month here!)

SAA

Tmior is soon to be in hand and, coupled with Amboina, will effectively seal off the DEI from Aus (save the route from Perth up to Tjilijap). This is a major goal in that it stops the Allies from leeching away Oil, while at the same time preventing them from bombing it. The conquest of Java will have to await the release of forces from the PI and/ or Sing.

The Americans have been bottled up in Bataan and will be mercilessly bombed, bombarded, and generally used for target practice over the course of a few months...I have no pressing need for the Divisions engaged here (and don't have the PP's to reassign them or that would be a different story...) so there's no real need to gut them in assaults against any but an exhausted foe.

Singapore is now beseiged and my units are being badly chewed up forcing their way across the causeway...I am already sending reinforcements from China to assist.

BAA

No news here...units are still slogging through the jungle towards an abandoned Rangoon.

CHINA

Complete mess.

PLANS

Nothing really on the table until current operations are wrapped up. W Aus is the most likely target though.

The results...

Looks she's out of the war for a few months...fortunately I am 3 days away from launching a new CVL so CarDiv 3's strength will only go down for a couple of weeks.

4TH FLT

Canton is going to be invaded tommorow. Today CarDiv 1 and 2 bombarded the coastal defenses and this will hopefully save me some AP's.

SE FLT

I desperately need infantry and aircraft here.

SAA

Moving along nicely. Now that the initial invasion waves are in I can use my transports to move in reinforcements from China and the Home Islands. I am going to commit a futher 3 Divisions to Singapore and try to take it quickly (late January). I can then move forward with my plans for the DEI.

The PI is going to turn into a long and drawn out battle. I am unwilling to expend my troops in desperate assaults when starvation will be just as effective. All the units that are involved in the PI now will become SAA's garrison and reserve formations, so I have several months before they will be needed. This time will be used to take out the Americans at our leisure.

BAA

1-2 miles per day through the Jungle

CHINA

I am going to wothdraw from Ichang. The place gives me nothing at all as far as resources go, and it is taking 2 and a half Divisions to (semi-)garrison it. These units will be better used in my attack on Homan, where I am trying to force a Cauldron Battle.

KWANGTUNG ARMY

I am moving aviation support troops and construction units to Jehol on the Manchurian/ Chinese border to enable some cross border air raids on Sian/ Lanchow.

1st Deliberate Attack on Singapore

As you can see the results are good. Despite the AV being 0 to 1, the margin is narrow and we inflicted much heavier casualties than we received.

A continuation of bombardaments punctuated by attacks as disruption allows will bring about the rapid disintigration of British defenses here. I predict that within two weeks we will have favorable assault odds, and that from there the total collapse of the British position will be rapid.

4TH FLEET

Enduring a forced pause while reinforcements are scraped together. We need torpedo bombers and ground forces of all kind, we also need to get the airfields at Baker and Canton to level 4 ASAP.

Until these goals are reached, the attack on Pago Pago has to wait, I don't want my elite South Seas Detachment to be beyond support range and vulnerable.

SE FLEET

Progress here is slow due to a lack of ground strength. I need more reinforcements for these two theaters badly.

SAA

Work against Singapore proceeds on schedule. I need to be careful with my ground forces in this battle, as they will be moving directly into the attack on Java after Singapore falls. As always the key is to drain the enemy of supplies.

The battle in the PI has wound down for the most part. I have the Americans trapped in Bataan, and there is little reason to force the issue at this time, starvation works just as well, and costs far fewer Japanese lives.

BAA

Finally got my lead elements into Moulmein (33rd Div). This campaign should be complete within 2 months.

CHINA

I will put together a Sitrep on China next post. It is a mess, but my basic tactic of outflanking units to cut their supply off and then strangling the life out of them seems to be working (albeit slowly).

A Chinese Corp crosses the river and runs into well dug in Japanese troops

Elsewhere things are holding steady. Nothing new will break loose until the fall of Singapore I think...though forces are gathering in Burma for the push there, and I am moving units up to 4th Fleet and SE Fleet so I should start moving in those theaters again soon.

The final defenders at Clark Field were rounded up. This leaves all Allied LCU's left in Luzon in Bataan...where they can rot under heavy shelling for the next month or two.

Ops underway again in 4TH FLT area after reinforcement

Ops in the Solomons underway following reinforcement of SE FLT.

BAA is advancing slowly...many units are still moving into their jump off points.

A2A combat has been VERY light so far...the totals are 24 Allied to 3 Japanese AC lost in A2A combat. By way of comparison, ground (for the Allies) and Flak (for Japan) have consumed many, many times this (I have lost some 300 AC to Flak so far). The net result is that Japanese losses now exceed Allied losses...and most of his are ground kills that have a much lower pilot casualty rate.
