Funny part for me is when they show the movie. They say to be quiet in respect for the fallen and then the movie says that the whole Texas uprising was because the Mexicans didn't like the influx of Yankee immigrants. Damn Yankees took their jobs, didn't speak their language, ect.

I was biting my tounge (literally) to keep from laughing at the irony. No one else seemed to see it however.

When I saw that, I immediately thought, "Alamo", even without noticing that Alby made the topic. :P I've never seen a map of the place before.

All anyone ever sees now adays is the chapel in lower left corner, as that is all thats left, plus part of 'long barracks' (where numbers 54-57 are)
the place was in reality gigantic, and even with 18 or so cannon was simply to difficult to defend with only 200 or so men.

cannot verify this but...I seem to remember reading that most of the defenders of the Alamo had in fact been born in Britain? Does this mean that we Brits can claim The Alamo as another of our glorious defeats?

Thanks, point conceded although, could it not be true that some defenders reporting their place of origin, as San Antonio, or MO, for instance, might have been actually born elsewhere? (I also remember reading once that there were more Welshmen at the Alamo than at Rourkes Drift, Granted my memory isn't what is was but I'm not actually a fan of the Welsh so it's not like I made it up to upset the Texicans!).

Oops... before anyone gets me back on this I have now spotted the http://www.thealamo.org/defend.html site with an obviously well researched list of Alamo defenders. It would appear that I have been incorrectly remembering (I said my memory isnt what it was ...or did I ?) an Urban Myth. Apologies to Texicans everywhere.

The reason for the revolt was that Santa Anna siezed the Government of Mexico and threw out the Constitution. It had nothing to do with the Americans taking anything. The Mexicans living in Texas ALSO joined the revolt against Santa Anna.
