I've been reading lots about the PTO recently since someone here posted an excellent site about the Iwo Jima landings (gutsy reading) and i came across this huge write up on Okinawa called "The last Battle". It looks like a whole book posted online with plenty of great reading and photos. Enjoy

Thanks, this looks very interesting, and it does seem to be an entire book posted online. The maps in particular may be handy in making a scenario or campaign based on this battle.

That site is a goldmine...last fall I spent an entire day reading their 'book' about the Ardennes offensive http://www.army.mil/cmh/books/wwii/7-8/7-8_cont.htm
These books are written in a style that I find fascinating, a mix of 'official' historical synopses and riveting first-hand accounts. When I read similar printed books, I usually find that I'm using one or two of my fingers as 'bookmarks' for pages that contain the accompanying maps ...with these I simply open the maps in another browser/tab and can flick between them without losing my place.

Their complete 'online bookshelves' are posted here: http://www.army.mil/cmh/online/Bookshelves/books-era.htm

Another neat 'feature' of their online books: when you click on a footnote, it opens a small window containing the info (i.e.: no more 'searching for the end of the chapter' or the footnote glossary ).

The US Army Commemorative series is good too.

And the USMC has their own.
