I understand one of the changes in the Nikmod 8 is the increase of the accuracy of centerline/nose mounted A2A guns. I think that is a great idea.

Looking at the devices, some seem to get huge accuracy increases, for example devices # 155 (12.7mm Type 1 MG(c)), with an accuracy of 68 vice # 157 (12.7mm Type 1N MG) with an accuracy of 16 or # 196 (7.7mm Type 97 MG(c)) (63 accuracy) vice # 184 (7.7mm Type 97 MG) (13 accuracy).

Compare those examples to device # 160 (.50 Browning Nose MG) with an accuracy of 16 vice device # 161 (.50 Browning MG) with an accuracy of 14.

What am I missing?

The centerline armament was introduced a number of versions back. The centerline Browning (P-38 primarily) was not increased in accuracy because the firepower of the Browning pack is already very powerful. Making it more powerful would risk unbalancing the plane. Ultimately increasing the acc. of the centerline mounts of planes like the Oscar was a means to make them more competetive within the game's framework. That a centerline armament is easier to aim vs. a wing mounted armament makes for a great junxta positioning with history but was not of itself the reason. The reason was because of how the A2A mechanics work. Overall the goal has been to tone down air casualties but in some cases it was necessary to increase firepower to prevent skewed kill ratios usually seen with planes like the Nate and Oscar. The Zero received it after the other two because the 6.0 changes made it too uncompetetive. Eventually all the Japanese planes received it to make them more competetive with the Browning Six pack which was least impacted by the acc changes.

Ok that makes sense - it sounds like you doing the best you can within the limitations of the combat engine. Been there, done that (although with a somewhat more modern subject) Designer vs. Programmer - I usually lost those battles, but I never stopped trying.
