He's talking about 2x3's choice to not include these hulls in the PC game. The only way the US player can get them in WitP PC is to first get his earlier CV's sunk. The hulls were historically built and renamed during construction after some of the sunken US CV's. But they would have appeared historically even if no US CV's were sunk since they were already under construction when the losses took place, but WitP PC vaporizes them unless/until you get some other hulls sunk first.

In my PBEM game, I carefully husbanded my CV’s so I could start an early counter-offensive in 1943. Now I have no CV’s queued to show up as reinforcements in 1943 so if any of my early CV’s get sunk early on in 1943 I’m hosed till 1944. It would be nice to have those hull numbers scheduled to appear as they historically would have in 1943 just in case I take some early 1943 losses in CV’s, but no luck for me.

The net effect is it will probably make me far more cautious than I want to be during my counter-offensives. I want to take some risks but the down side basically shuts me down for 1 whole game year so over-caution will probably rule my play until at least late 1943 slowing my counter-attack way down.

Now for the important question.    Would ANYONE out there be interested in playing a "Moderated, hidden movement, version" of this game for a 9 day intensive face-to-face encounter?   Multi-player, with Team Commands?   Possibly in Kansas City?   Next Summer?   Just trying to see if there is any interest left in such an endevour?

The first 8 days would be to read the rules and set the game up and then one day for the PH strike!

Very tempting though. Don't know waht I am doing next summer.

Hi, I really enjoyed playing this old board game. However I am amused that some of you think it didn't have problems or was somehow better or more acurate.

The movement rules in the old game required a house rule to slow things down. (The Japanese could capture India before the end of Dec 41)

I would never pay the current asking price. (It appears this company realizes no one but grognards will buy it and that grognard will pay whatever they ask)

When I was playing the board game I wished that somehow the subject have a game design that I could actually play without needing a index card for every TF, airfield or stack of land units, supply, fuel or item being set via pipeline from one base to another.

I recently discovered I could not let any female I know read these forums. (They all think we are a bunch of picky, whinney, know-it-alls who find fault with everything. )

I have not played a board game since I bought my first Commodore 64 and I doubt I ever will. (I can't go back to "let me see those dice" "hey I invoke the obvoius blunder rule" "no thats 2 points for the clear and 4 for the rough you can't enter that hex this turn butthead" "get your paws off that stack your not allowed to peek you have to draw a chit for that" and so on.

I tried to play this game several times. Every time we started with at least 4 players per side and by turn 3 were down to 1 on 1 and it was too much to figure out what the other guys had written on their cards and way to much to keep track of. Good luck in your effort to get a game done in 9 days.

The little tactical maps are a very pretty waste of time. (If the Japanese send enough to win on the big map the litltle maps will not alter the outcome but they will make the process consume more time and time is the problem in playing this beast)

I'd rather see Campaign for North Africa done for computer then go back to War in the Pacific on board game. (I already have War of the Pacific for computer) I'd really like to see some of the old Civil War battles redone for computer. (I loved Terrible Swift Sword but keeping track of morale and combat loss was too much of a chore to think about doing again)

I know there are still a lot of board gamers out there and I respect their choice but I am now a computer gamer and view board games much the way I do old Commodore-64 games. Very good for their day and a lot of fun once apon a time.

Hi, No I got a ride home from work and while I was changing cloths to go out and drink beer one of the girls asked if she could check her email. My home page is matrix so she started reading the forum because she knows I was a tester for this game. (It was Bears daughter in law and sister in law)

I only need about 3 minutes to change but before I could finsih they were both on the floor after reading some of the posts about WITP.

I can go one better than that. One time, I had to do some group work in school about international economics. The group consisted of myself and two girls, and at the first session they spent nearly 20 minutes talking about their recent bladder infections. I was caught in the middle, one part of me shouting "Stop them! Stop them!", and another cowering in the corner, wimpering, "but how?"

You mentioning Terrible Swift Sword brings back some serious memories of that game back when I was in the Navy at Great Lakes and was going down to a hobby store in Chicago getting my bi-monthly fix of SPI games.
Unfortunately, I allow a friend to purchase that game while I got something else.   That was the best game on the Civil War to come out for some time.

Any chance you can post some of the rules and compare them to WITP's design? I'd especially like to see rules for the land combat, surface ship combat, carrier vs carrier and A2A combat, and some of the ops and logistics stuff.

Wow!  Glad to know this is finally shipping - I've been drooling over the adds in my subscription to S&T for over a year now.  I had a lot of fun with the old game as a kid, but there is no way I can set something like this up now - much less find the time to play it.

Personally, I really like the idea of the mini-maps - would love to see a computer simulation try something similar.
