Okay. terminus and I have started a game using his Mare Bellum mod. This mod puts more battleships and a few additional carriers in the hands of both sides. There are also more British land and air units in Malaysia in a less disrupted state at the start. There are additional air units in the Phillipines in the form of A-24 Banshees. There are also RN submarines in Singapore. I will consolidate and post the results of the Japanese actions from turn 1 shortly. I am in the process of turning off automatic replacements for air units and trying to assemble transports for supply and critical troop movements. I will also give a more complete description of the additional units in this scenario.

Defeated Allied Units Retreating!

The Indomitable was sunk 2 days ago 120 miles out from Singapore the result of a mistake I made on turn 1. I know this is standard for the allies at the start of a game, but my pilots can’t hit the broadside of a barn. I have moved one B-17 bomb group from Clark to Singapore and the other to Darwin. I intend to move the P-40s to the DEI to assist there as I feel they can do no good in the Phillipines.
Okay people now I have some questions. First, do I fight for Burma or evacuate?
I have the shipping to evac Rangoon. Maybe I am wrong but I think Rangoon is a trap. Would not Akyab be more defensible?
Speedy, I don’t think I am using my subs correctly. Any advice?
Secondly, do I use my few political points and evac the DEI or just concentrate the units in the strategic bases. If, I don’t fight I will free up his ground units for things like India, Noumea, etc.
Please feel free to post in this AAR as desired. All opinions are appreciated.

I can only give advice on stock maps. no idea if your using one

anyhoo.. burma is defensible full stop. Rangoon is a trap get the CD guns to andaman island and the rest out to mandalay. Mandalay is the stopping point in burma, defend it with all you have there but do not sent troops from india as thay could be needed if japan invades. one tactic is get the men to mandalay then bring the most damaged ones out via dakota to calcutta/dacca etc wherever the SEAsia HQ is for refitting then fly them back. also get SEasia hq out of colombo to the mainland too.Prepping it for mandalay helps too as with range 9 it can infleunce combat from 8 hexes away.

As for PP's i use them to get the island garissons out to somewhere useful i.e soerbaja/batavia etc. and once the hq is changed you can evac a few when java falls so the dutch replacements arent wasted. the most valuabe dutch units are the base forces and make a huge differance in north australia if you can get them out. also take the stupid fk51's, they upgrade to F5 lightnings ( v slowly). so park a few in perth/karachi etc. they can be used in burma as range 2 isnt such a bad handicap from mandalay.

hope that helps , my subs suck too .. but the US named boats make great sub transports for getting BF's out of the DEI. at least the dutch/british and US S-boats have working torpedos .. needless to say dutch O19+O20 are great mine layers. and do not upgrade the argonaut (US).

good luck

Combined Dutch, British and American naval forces have dealt 2 moderate blows 2 IJN surface units in the Eastern DEI. The transport force has fled into the area southeast of Ambonia. They are in range of 4 squadrons of Hudsons. With luck they will soon go down. The Dutch BC Den Haag has severely damaged the Japanese CA Katori This is the first setback for T all week.

American destroyers have severely damaged the I-3 100 miles west of Seattle. There are now over 100,000 supply moving to Pearl Harbor. 2 divisions are being prepped for a move to Pearl Harbor. Destroyers are running ASW missions to the west coast prior to the move.

I have moved 44 P-40Bs to Kendari. I plan to move them to the western DEI to help deal with the Betty threat out of Kuching. I am planning on moving several isolated Dutch engineering units to Australia and Burma as PP become available. I also would like to strengthen Palembang and Sorejaba.

Two severely mauled Australian Hudson units were moved to India for rest and refit.

The air units in Singapore have had 3 days rest and some replacement aircraft. They should be ready to fly tomorrow.

Thank you, Faber. Either T is a very careful player or he is going easy on me. My air units in Singapore are somewhat rested and a little replenished. I plan to use them for ground attack tomorrow.

Okay people. I need alittle advice. One thing I have never really understood is the war in China. I could really use some advice on strategies here. I will listen to all replies.

Please do not be offended if humor works it's way into the thread. A lot of the people I post with enjoy throwing friendly insults. No harm or real insult to other posters is intended. Any replies are welcome.

(for lack of anything constructive to say. If my war against Faber shows anything its that I have even less idea about China than you do. )

Good war. Keep it up.

Well, I'm not the world's greatest China expert, but I enjoy the game in China & have so far done well there, always as the allied player.

Here's a couple quick-points for the early game: Turn all reinforcements off until you're certain of your supply situation. Reinforce key crossroads - especially Changsha! Don't give up any ground voluntarily unless you're extremely hard-pressed. Try to hold the Burma road. Try to cut the supply-lines of any deep Japanese excursions.

Defend in a mountain or swamp hex if you're outnumbered (gives you a defensive bonus). Defend in a clear hex (preferably behind a river) if you think you can succesfully counter-attack the advancing Japanese.

As soon as you can, start flying in some supply from INdia.

Those are all general points. What's the exact situation in China now?

Good luck!

Reinforce Yenen, Homan and Inchang soonest. If it hits the rotary impeller, Homan is not worth holding, but Sian is a very imprtant crossroads. Ultimately, however, it depends on T and what he wants to do first.

The reason I bring it up is because of that stuff south of Moulmein. If he manages to gt grab hold of you there, escape might be very difficult. Also, Faber bagged me by cutting that crossroads north of Moulmein. I'm still kicking myself for that one.

It is now Dec 19, 1942 Yenen fell yesterday. What are the reprocussions here? What do I need to do to mitigate the damage?

Yenen...Is that the base in Nort China?

If you are strong at Sian and Homan, just fall back fighting. Don't forger that some of those cities up the ( northwest of Sian) road are supply producers. At least they are in stock.

The only changes T made to his mod, for the most part, were things like more ships, aircraft and LCUs with some differing starting places and times. His mod documentation made no mention of changing supply production. He did not mention it either. This mod is essentially stock with OOB differences to put more things in the game he was interested in. It is interesting and fun.

Also, I had not thought to turn off replacements.

I got the idea from a post of Moses in the War Room, but I currently agree with it. Not getting a handful of replacements will lower your combat efficiency a little, but it eats supply. Not having enough supply on hand can lower your combat efficiency a lot. Once the situation has stabilized some you can re-evaluate it.

Losing Yenen is bad news, but not disastrous. Here's a couple thoughts after looking at your maps:

Move the units to the NE of Yenen to within 60 miles of it. If T advances further towards Kungchang or Sian you could threaten to cut him off.

Consolidate some units at Changsha & then take the hex to the northeast of it. That will provide some security from being surrounded, and Changsha can be a useful base to stage counter-offensives from.

As I just said in another thread, follow my advice at your own risk! But maybe it will give you some useful food for thought.

Ctangus, what I like about these games is that they are games.

The only risk involved is to one's pride

What do I have to lose (except China)?

I hear you there. There's no sense in playing a game that takes as much time as this if both sides aren't having fun.

That said, crush those Japs in China!

I have 36 real hours to plan my move. I am going to take my time and try to study the map.

Also I want to post the rest of the turn results here in the AAR.
