Any Empire troops in the game (Canadians, Anzac, Indians etc..) or do they will appear as British divisions?

Good question... it may just be chrome, but it'd be great fun to have some ANZAC divisions! Although I guess that since the Middle East is not modelled, their influence is less than it would be otherwise... thinking about this has me hungry for an ANZAC biscuit.

I'm guessing that since a Corp is the basic unit, any Canadian or other Empire troops will get lumped into generic British Corps. I agree, it would be great to see a Canadian or ANZAC Corps in the British OOB.

The Canadian divisions on the western front were grouped in the same corps, the Canadian Expeditionary Corps, which was considered elite troops by the Allied High-Command. In 1917 the Corps managed to take heavy fortified Vimy Ridge with light casualities, which was considered impossible to take (the British and French tried many times to take it with heavy losses)

Hip Hip Hurrah!

It would add more flavour i agree. Isn't the middle east modelled ? i'm sure some old screenies covered the black sea and palestine down to N africa etc. so gallipoli should be on map and an allied option too.

Gallipoli and the Northern Caucusus Front are definately in, but not the Middle East.

I guess as far as separate Empire troops being represented, it wouldn't be to hard to simply designate a Corp as the 1st Canadian Corp in the British OOB. I saw a screenshot of a Prussian Guard Corp unit, so maybe Empire troops are represented as separate Corps. The more distinct formations we have, the better.

One of the disappointments from the original GoA for me was the lack of those kind of units. Wonder if the original BEF will be designated like that.

Dominion troops are in the game.  There's Canadian, Australian and other corps.

There are 3 or 4 Indian Corps in hte game IIRC, and 1 each Canadian and Australian in builds up until now.

nothing labelled "ANZAC" specifically.....I might have to lobby for that....

A brief history of the ANZACs:

1915 Gallipoli - 1 Australian Dvision + 1 ANZAC Division of 2 Australian and 1 New Zealand Brigades.

after Gallipoli: 1 ANZAC Corps consists of 2 Australian Divisions, II ANZAC Corps of 1 Aus & 1 NZ Divisions

Late 1917:  Now 5 Australian divisions get formed into a single Australian Corps.  II ANZAC Corps is renames XXII British Corps containign the New Zealanders and a British Division

Palestine:  Desert mounted Corps consists of 2 divisions - an Australian Mounted division of 2 Australian Light Horse Brigades and 1 British Mtd Yeomanry Brigade.  This British unit is replaced in mid 1918 by an Australian Brigade of 2 Aus Regiments and 1 French Regiment;  and an ANZAC Mounted Division of 2 Australian Light Horse and 1 NZ Mounted Rifle Brigades.

The Light Horsemen famously captured Beersheba on 31 October 1917 with a mounted charge over Turkish trenches in conjunction with the rest of the Mounted Corps attacking in support elsewhere - immortalised in the movie "The Light Horsemen" and lots of places on the net - see http://www.firstworldwar.com/maps/palestinefront.htm - "Operations in 1917", http://www.lighthorse.org.au/histbatt/beersheba.htm, and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Beersheba

the latest build has extended the war to Palestine and perhaps Mesopotamia - I haven't seen it yet - so there should be at least this 1 more ANZAC Corps involved to cover this formation.

Right - I've done some lobbying for Australian, ANZAC and Canadian formations to be "properly" represented! :)

Aus & ANZAC as above, the Canadians with their 4 divisions forming/arriving in France from early 1915-1916 - theoretically just 1 corps tho, which might not be suited to the GOA "scale" of 2 divisions/corps (at least I think that's what it is....)

Really, the Palestine and Iraq theaters are added to the latest build?!!?? That is great news and makes the waiting more worthwhile. Allenby's ghost will be pleased.

SMK, please continue to lobby for the "ANZAC" appellation... it'd be fun to see it in the game, and the Kiwis need their props too.

It is indeed great news that the Middle East Front is going to be added. My anticipation for this game grows by the day!

If anyonme wants to make a small contribution to "colour" in GoA, perhaps you could do a bit of research on other "colourful" corps in the various armies & suggest them to Frank? Eg colonial corps for the French, Siberians for the Russians - anything else you can think of that might be of interest to WW1 grogs.

Each nation has a fairly long list of corps that get activated at the start of the war and at intervals throughout it, so title and date of formation would be the basic info required to start with.

I'm making a presumption here that a corps can be named anything at all without actually making any difference to the game, so mea culpa if this is not the case Frank

Thinking out loud, perhaps Frank could have the famed Czech Legion appear as a reinforcement for the tottering Tsar in 1917... they certainly had an interesting few years after that!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Czech_Legion

Wish I knew more about the French colonial troops in WW1... there were a lot of Annamese (Vietnamese/Laotian/Cambodian) troops on the Western Front, but I'm not sure when they were first deployed.

French Foreign Legion also fought on the Western Front and were the most decorated French soldiers on the War.

I love it also. In French its called :Il etait une fois, la Legion. In those days it was a lot easier to enroll in the Legion. Right now they have a 10 to 1 ratio fail/success in their recruitment process! Most of their recruits comes from eastern europe.

Damn, I didn't realize that the Legion had become so exclusive.

Just a mater of supply and demand - they only have "x" number of places, and they're getting 10x number of applicants.......must be easier life in the Legoin than in Eastern Europe..;)
