i finished the campaign with very few losses but i sorta cheated by buying a nebelwerfer battery (although historically not 100% incorrect because the 7th SS *did* heave nebelwerfers).

i bought
3 SS-rifle squads (of which i changed one to engineers, for mineclearing before assaulting Mt. Igman)
1 SS MG42 team
2 Pz IV h
2 88 Flak with prime movers (because i *suspected* air support)
4 Nebelwerfer 41 (of which i later changed 1 to Wurfrahmen 40)
1 forward observer

this setup pretty much blew the opposition from the field, the biggest problem being the Pe-2 aircrafts, which do a ridiculously high damage even to entrenched units.

a more realistic setup would be
1 SS rifle company (not motorized) with 2x88 AA and some 75mm PAK (as they did have historically) and some artillery (75mm or 100mm Gebirgskanone carried by mules would be nice, don't know wether they are present in the enhanced, unfortunately in the standard version they are not).

i don't know if this fits within the 650 points given at start; need to check.

Another Soviet Sturm destroys a stug
Soviet armor rushing headlong into my Sturmpioneers destroyed piecemeal.
The loss of my armor will hurt me later I Imagine.
Infantry to the southeast being pounded by my 81 mms and harasssed by my sniper
Yu Partisans spotted in extreme south and fired upon by MG 42 and a Panther.

The Death of Zenica:

Good news of sorts, we were able to repair a armored car beforehand, using the remnants of the three we've lost thus far. It's not much, but it at least provides us with some heavy fire support.

This was short lived, as an aerial assault destroyed on car, and a MMG squad on our right flank. The main attack occured 15 mins later, as T34 and T60 tanks charged with large numbers of infantry and under cover of artillery fire. Units on the front have suffered severe casualties, though they managed to destroy three tanks before pulling back. Our Right flank is under threat from a strong force of Soviet infantry, with Partisans operating at our rear in that same sector. Our valiant light mortar crews opened fire with their mortars and small arms, and along with a reserve squad of Grenadiers managed to drive the partisans back with heavy casualties.

I have ordered the men to retreat within the town, so that should bring them protection from the tanks. Our remaining AC is moving to reinforce the right flank, and reserve units will likely be moved in that area as well. In the repositioning, a T-34 was knocked out and the infantry riding it repulsed. That makes two of the fearsome tanks destroyed, along with a couple light tanks.

One amusing event happened, my men reported that the Soviets own planes strafed their positions. While damage was uncertain, I am sure that it did little to improve the disposition of the Ivans, and maybe reduced the ammo of those lame ducks so that they will no longer cause a problem.

I am playing the original one, however you can download an enhanced version at the depot (www.spwaw.com). That is probably the one Alby is playing right now.

got it. didn't realize first that you had to be logged in to see the download link.
unpack the zip in the campaign folder, then edit the campaign to add build points at start, right?

Your too fast for me... that or my life is much more diverse than yours, and you have much more time to devote to wargaming than me! This is the first day in over a week I could play on the computer.

The battle for Zenica continues...

I have sent my reserve units to reinforce the right flank, as it is the location of the greatest proportion of Bolshevik and Partisan forces attacks. time and time again, the Soviets have entered the outskirts of town, and time and time again they have been driven back with heavy casualties. I have my 81mms firing on the right flank, to help suppres the soviet advance somewhat, while my light mortars are relegated to mostly waiting until they can fire. One light mortar crew has served with great distinction, firing directly at a large number of attacking partisans, and between them and a single squad of Grenadiers, our  flank in that sector has been secured. The Partisans have almost linked up with Soviet forces towards the front. I will soon withdrawl my line further into town, as we have suffered considerable casualties as well.

Hey, if you knew what I was getting ready to do, you'd know why I'm taking so long!

I like SPWaW, but unlike some of us, I also have far more important tings to tend to!

Zenica was held against the Soviets. My exhausted men managed to beat back Ivan's assault repeatedly, suffering 57 casualties, but inflicting hundreds. Ivan withdrew his forces to reconsolidate, and prepare for another attack.

We have been ordered to withdrawl 4 miles west, to some hills. There, we have set up camp to rest a bit before finding out what the commander has in store for my men. It cannot be much, we do not have much left.
