El Cid:

Why names of Soviet air units were changed? I thought that tendency is to actually introduce as many names in national languages (like Japanese HQ's).

You also made those units totally virtual, it's now hard to distinguish division from regiment.

There are about 133,000 fields in WITP. After half a year - what was done with a sub set of these is impossible to remember. Surely I wished to "get it right" - and I do remember it was not right. I had some Soviet OB data in rather more detailed form than the game OB - and I attempted to reconcile it with the game units. Perhaps the problem lies in the names I was reading - which were not in Russian - but in English: that means someone had to decide what they should be in English. I have found from time to time that translation is tricky stuff: in this context see the former "Yobo Eki" units of WITP - not quite close enough to the Japanese for me to recognize the term meant was Yobieki" - but eventually I figured it out. The main thing I remember is that there WAS a relationship between the historical document lists and the game units - but it was not very close. I tried to use names that would be more meaningful to English readers. As you know, we are dealing with more than one air force here - and also as you know I added one of the Soviet air forces which was entirely missing. I was focused on the game start OB - and at that time a CHS team was working on a later OB - which I gather they concluded was more or less present in secret, hidden code form - it appears after a certain date in certain slots - whatever you put in them being written over.

These are general comments. As far as I am concerned, I used better names. Probably no person had more influence on the Soviet OB than you have in the RHS process - and your feedback was and is welcome. If you have a specific issue - raise it. I myself understand Russian to some extent - and I am not in the least opposed to using appropriate names in any language. But my Russian knowledge is from a different era - and I am less than confident I understand esoteric terms from the WWII era. I wholly lacked confidence to even think about using the Russian names. But with a guide - not a problem.

Especially I don't like fact that division consisting of 3 regiments each 32 planes is represented by a group of 40 planes.

Using shortcuts had some sense, you could see size and type of unit.

I had plane counts - but not theoretical orgnaization sizes. Also - I have a technical limit of 50 planes per unit - itself a problem - and I try not to approach it (I think 48 is the most I use in fact - and only if I must). But there are not enough slots to represent all the divisions if they must be divided into three regiments: Not even close. RHS is based on earlier CHS - when this was a squadron level game - and we sometimes use groups - but never divisions except when they are not too numerous (see RTAF "wings" - which are squadrons or groups - not divisions). If you are right - we have a problem. Nevertheleess, tell me more about it: first define the problem - then figure out what to do about it.
