As Allies in '45.
I've been getting my butt kicked for months on end. The Home Islands are a wreck. Nothing can stop the Allies - or so they think.
Carefully, the Emperor has been hoarding and gathering his most experienced pilots and aircraft for almost a year, just waiting for the Allies to get cocky and stray towards the Northern Islands - where disaster awaits.

I'm still going to lose horribly - but days like this make all the suffering worthwhile.
Stock game too, that makes it even sweeter that I was able to break through his CAP.

AAA is nice - but don't put all your eggs in one TF, so to speak...

Yeah, well that was his distraction for the invasion of Southern Japan that just happened the next turn - that's my bigger concern at the moment. An expensive distraction at that. One strike was coordinated between two large airbases and a carrier TF - blew him away with that one.

Now if I can kick his invasion out I'll be happy to suffer through the remaining months with this last happy memory...

Nicely done. Lesson to the Allied players not to get over confident.

I didn't include the previous turn - where I had sent the crap bomber with heavy (and I mean heavy) escort. The sole purpose was to fatigue and kill the CAP. Not much was left to oppose the quality pilots sent on this day. I've been skirmishing for months with crappy pilots, and I guess he got complacent thinking that I could never survive the massive flak that the Allies put up at this stage (mostly true).

Not to mention that many carriers will give even the '45 Allies a coordination hit.

He's been sailing about the Home Islands for months, and I rarely oppose him with any strength - it's been mighty tempting, but I resisted the urge. 'Till now...

Thats a lesson for 45 allies for sure. nicely done there Blurking, I'd guess PzB would like to do that in his AAR .

Also good to see a japanese player going into 1945 at all, and even better that the japanese player can have some fun as well, stock makes it even more impressive congratulations.

and good luck

Opponent shall remain nameless - but I whipped up on him pretty bad for the first couple of years, so I'm sticking it out to the bitter end (the Japanese shouldn't get to have all the fun). Wish it was Wobbly, he's been making my life miserable lately .
It's incredibly painful to play the Japanese late in the war - you just get used to getting stomped wherever the Allies please. I pretty much gave up opposing him whenever he came on strong, and decided to wait until the time and place was of my choosing (and out of Mustang escort range - kiss your airbase goodbye if the B-29s with escort come a-callin').
Pretty much shot my wad now, doubt if he'll give me another opening like that again. So it's off to protect the shores of the Homeland!
Another 4 months of getting creamed - but he's still got 80K to go and I'm shooting to avoid historical surrender date. Gotta aim low as the Japanese at this date...

Blurking,

Nice to see another Texan.  I'm in Dallas.  Enjoyed reading this turn, but primarily to see someone sticking it out until the end.  Good on ya.

Don't get your hopes up too much Drex - this is one victory out of many disasters. The Allies can take pretty much whatever they want, and my opponent has done so. 1944 is a year I'd just as soon forget. Now I've got 3 Allied Corp just dropped off in Southern Japan (in 2 days, no less!) and am rushing Home Defense units to oppose. Tanaka is riding off to his most likely death, along with the remnants of the combined fleet. Thunderstorms are forcast, but I don't expect to get lucky and avoid air strikes - besides, multiple Iowa class BBs await his arrival.
Like I said - just trying to hold out 'till August...

If the Allies focus on a single axis of attack, and take minimal bases - there's no problem. Just dump tons of men, aircraft, and supplies on a base and build it up. Jump to the next base a thousand miles away and wash, rinse, repeat. Iwo and Okinawa are receiving reinforcements/supplies direct from West Coast/Hawaii/Midway - using mega-convoys w/ CVEs that I simple cannot touch. Even a successful surface intercept will yield 5-10 ships at best, and that's merely a nuisance to the late-war Allies.

There are no/little penalties for overstacking, so you could (for example) just drag the entire 12th Army Group around the Pacific, gobbling up bases as you go. The Allies have got enough supplies to dump on a base and keep it running for over a year without ever revisiting it. Ergo, no flanks to cover (I sure as hell couldn't take any of them back, even if I had the desire).

He's only taken 6 or 7 important bases from me - but it's enough given the game mechanics. The Japanese can do pretty much the same thing early on (although I resisted the urge for the most part), so slowing down the pace somehow would be a big improvement IMHO.

But hey, it's just a game - and my opponent is doing what he must to force an early surrender. If he went the traditional route I'd be able to hold out well into '46...

I dont get it: Your opponent gets his CAP shot up and STICKS ARROUND with his carriers for another round

I would have run like HELL....

How did you manage to kill a 1945 400+ hellcat CAP with "crappy" pilots
I tried to defeat a 300 + wildcat CAP in 43 with 250  75+ EXP zero's and got them all shot up......

Stupid move on his part, and he's admitted as such.

I will, however, take some credit. I've been flinging crap raids at him for almost a year now, rarely achieving any hits. I think he got complacent since the Allied flak is so devastating when they get proximity fuses. I never hit him with multiple day raids when the flak would be reduced by ammo expenditure (heck, I rarely had any planes left after the first day ) and I sent crap bombers the previous turn, their escorts were quite experienced and in 2nd gen Franks which can kill 1 Hellcat for every two losses, at least from what I've seen.

You can get pretty sloppy as the Allies late in the war - everything bounces off.

But beware, the Japanese are watching. And waiting...

OK, not to turn this into an AAR (and posting is not my style - I'd much rather lurk about and read), but it looks like the Japanese Army has issued pointed sticks to the Home Defense Forces to fight off the Allied invaders...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ground combat at Kagoshima

Japanese Deliberate attack

Attacking force 114100 troops, 1491 guns, 304 vehicles, Assault Value = 3396

Defending force 118651 troops, 1421 guns, 343 vehicles, Assault Value = 2788

Japanese max assault: 1296 - adjusted assault: 338

Allied max defense: 2552 - adjusted defense: 7943

Japanese assault odds: 0 to 1

Japanese ground losses:
5582 casualties reported
Guns lost 373
Vehicles lost 63

Allied ground losses:
717 casualties reported
Guns lost 14
Vehicles lost 1

Thought I'd catch him on the beach while disrupted, but it's not looking good for the home team

Wow.  Where was his CAP?  Most of those TF have just a handful of fighters up, if any.  You said you pounded him day(s) before, and stayed on station?

I guess I'd be tempted to stick around if my CAP was deflecting everythign that got thru.  Kind of a dramatic lesson, to have been fine one day, and then suddenly the avalanche falls.

I guess he won't make that mistake again (and I'm glad it wasn't me!)

Over 20 divisions show up to oppose Allied landing in Japan.
My opponent concedes.

80K just too much to overcome in the last 3 months of the war.

Now if I can just hold off Wobbly for the next 2 years in my other game...
