Home islands

Little to report

China
same, same

Burma
I get the troops across the river again, mostly undamaged.
Hope the phychological aspect did the most damage, other than the 2 British Divs wrecked.
Adaman island -he now has to clean up the place
I expect the Cvs to depart -so 1cl and 3 dd are dispatched from sabang to attack the transports -this is simply a use up ammo move -BB mutsu may follow -although I did say I will use her as a fort -changed my mind -she will attack!

DEI
Lost a dd to a ss today -curses!

Solomons
Disbanded the fleet, next turn re organise -whats the co ordination CAP for after mid 43 for CV groups -is it still 200 planes or is it more than that?

marshalls
are gone

All else is quiet

im trying to train, and re build what I have, production is stopping, and most plane pools are very, very low.

GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
its up to the army to fight stubbonly now.

tabpub continues his relentless bombing program in China -pounding hanoi, and haipong again and again

I think his intention is to methodically work his way along the front, destroying everything in his path.

cannot stop him

Well he deliberates at thursday island -5 to 1, forts to 6, will not last long now.

I have to face the resources and oil facts, and make some hard decisions.
The KB is re organised, trying to keep under 200 planes per task force.
Now have 10Cv and 6 cvl/cve , with one more CV coming

I a have 90000 fuel at rabual -and thats about the ready reserve.
No fuel to go galivating anywhere.
So I sit, and sit, and wait now.

I am facing the same historical choices japan faced

I am running rapidly out of tankers.
APs are still adequate, but have to be juggled
AKs are running low

I have not produced a AK/AP for a year, and Im losing 2 to 3 a day.
Lost 2 tankers to SS today!!

Home Islands
I have stopped all, repeat all Ship construction
No bombers being built
HI is at 5000 points, can it turn around?
I need to struggle to the george fighter, to have any chance I feel of resisting

China
More pounding of haipong, hanoi

Burma
BB Mutsu comes up 1 hex short of Adaman island today -but is protected by the weather!!

I am trying to rotate some units at the front, rest and recreation in bangkok -after a long march

DEI
Its still quiet -but I feel he is ready to attack Timor.

Solomons
Thursday island, he shocks -4 to 1 -forts to 2
its all but over there.

I hang on grimly, once Thursday falls -and rennel reaches size 4, it will be the real slide down the slippery slope!

Mutsu showers Adaman island -destroying ten planes or so on the ground

The emperor announces a special award of valour to the troops at Thursday island, where the allies after a classic nearly 5 month battle finally take the airfield.

The troops do not retreat.
I actually will now see if he begins to pull out some of the aussie troops, maybe something can be done.

probably not!

tabpub claims he has 5 potential axis of advance

I have only 1 place i can defend successfully

GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

Another tanker today
More bombs in China -all over the place !!!

A small raid on Kupang -Timor, where 7 tony take on 4 brewsters -which shoot 2 tonies down!
This should tell some one on the other side of the fence the level of pilot skill some of my men are at.
Mutsu got away, will he hunt her down in the mallacca straight?

On the home front HI is building again -but no more ships will come.
I need the HI for the planes.

Sabang gets a regiment..
I really fear a Timor invasion now.

Its bombs, bombs, and more bombs in south west China -poor haipong and hanoi are being turned into waste lands

no sign of enemy troops though

transports approaching tenibar
CL Yubari and 5 dd sail to intercept
Bloody boring turn other than that.

Overview, cause nothing happened except the bombing in china

Home islands -industry collapsed!!!
Phillipines -fortified -and in fair state
Burma -quiet on my side -he bombs. major troop deployment here
DEi -Timor is garrisoned, a div at soerabaya, some air, but its pretty vunerable now
Solomons- is the gamble, the weight of my forces are here.
76000 fuel left for the fleet -and very little coming
ie, i must wait for an attack.
Marshalls -are lightly held, being gobbled up

Its all geting very grim -but I will fight on!

CL Yubari and 5 DD surprise 2 AK at tenibar, and sink them.
he bombs rahaeg
A huge raid on lautern today -160 mediums
tabpub troops at kaifieng try a shock attack -4000 casos.
troops at thursday are being used for target practice

Orders are few for the day -BB Mutsu leaves the malaya front for the DEI.

I really must resist chewing up what fuel i have left -and wait for the Tabpub so slow train to arrive!

Thankyou for the comment!

yes, the industrial situation is "interesting"

27/7/43
I shut down all but PG,msw ship production about a week ago
I shut down all a/c production other than zeros, and oscars

since then HI excess has climbed from 5000 to 70000, I intend to use the surplus for george fighter production

A survey of the empire shows just 10 bases in japan, and 20 odd total with more than 20000 supplies, and just 6 with 50000 fuel or more.
I guess only about 5 cities are actually producing stuff, as oil levels in most cities are under 1000

Total oil is 335000 for the empire!
Pools of A/c
160 AM3a
400 am3
500 tojo (but with PDU off -a waste)
just 33 oscars
just 17 sallies
400 helens though

300 and 200 Vals/kates
all other a/c makes are less than 50, many, many are zero -especially all transports.

(and japan is too strong) -theoretically i can produce 1100 planes a month, and 1700 engines, but Im no where near that!

So what to do!
I must strategically continue the bluff of MIGHTY STRENGTH!
So the solomons are heavy with planes, and Mutsu and other small TFs are going to appear in the Timoer area -and attack -ships, bah, dime a dozen tabpub!

KB must now really, really be preserved until an opening happens -I really, really hope he goes for PM!
If he does not -and goes for the centre route -Ponape is heavily garrisoned, it and TRUK will buy time to evac the solomons if he tries to bypass them.
I have already put Ponape firmly in my mind as THE line in the sand .

Greater worry is Timor -a move here by him will see the game over in 6 months -this Im certain.
If this game was vs wobbly, Id have no confidence, Tabpub is very much a nibbler, he will crush me slowly, but not spectacularily

Today it was bombing everywhere- especially in China -where I now feel I have his objective in mind -simply the elimination of all air resistance in China, and the closing of the formosa straights -and eventually the B29 raids.

I personally see the collapse of japan well before siapan is even threatened!

I have just one ASW dedicated group on the map -but its a ripper -it sinks a SS today off kagoshima.
he bombs tainan

Lea recieves a long range visit -quite a surprise these -59 liberators are met by 25 Tojo
Ilose 5 tojo in the air -some 20 planes on the ground
8 liberators shot down
No pilots lost though

In the PM phase he pounds hanoi.
160 heavies hit Milne bay
50 mediums hit lautern -terrible conditions here -the regiment is totally ruined now.
Lunga is hit from rennel -dive bombers are getting used now.
He tries another shock attack at kafiengnmore , lots more dead chinese.

About the only news for the turn of real note -19 units, APs, CAs spotted darwin
decisive action
3 CV the Unryu, Amagi, katsaguri leave rabual -racing north up the PNG coast to the DEI theatre.

he bombs heavily in Burma today
7 oscar try to stop them -they run away though, so nobody got hurt today.

P47s!!! -begin ops -hitting Maleolap.
18 jake -my super fighter bomber attack from Munda -and hit a DD south of rennel -causing severe damage.

Lautern is pounded, pounded, pounded.

The regiment there could not stop a sunday school picnic from landing now.
I hope to get assetts there in time.

TABPUB promises that AUGUST will be a busy month..
ITS BUSY enough MATE!!!!

Luang Prang gets a visit
APD2 is trying to run supplies into Lunga -she is bombed by 15 DB from rennell -that all miss.

GG is hit again
Burma -mainly moulimien, is pounded
At Adaman island my troops, informed that no rescue is possible now , Banzia attack -they actually had a larger AV than the indian div facing them -only the level 1 fort I think stopped them -cold
So , thats that, I suppose this will become quite routine, writing off units as they get wiped out

KB has sailed -going for a CAP trap over Milne bay.
lets see what happens.

maloelop gets a naval bombardment
MSW at moulmien -the Bbs any day I reckon

AM air
rahaeg gets pounded
Buna gets another raid
Moulimiem is hit again

At Thursday island 36 betty attack -escorted by 9 zero
OOOPPSSSSS-13 corsair shoot down 8 zero, 17 betties -DAMN -best pilots too.
1 lousy AK hit in return

lautern gets hit hard
Kiriwina island gets hit today as well -38 liberators are met by 30 zeros.
4 liberators shot down
Lunga is hit as well today

I deliberate at kaifieng - 2 chinese corps are destroyed

few orders given today, tomorrow I hope zekes start to arrive
I use the CVs off buna to try to set up a CAP trap over GG tomorrow.

Thursday island has a lot of ships -suspect they came from darwin
I order 3 Cvs at Ambonia down towards Thursday island -can I intercept them on return in the gulf?

A very quiet day -my CAP traps are spotted by recon planes -so I will retire KB back to rabual.

Zekes are arriving OK -5 a day.

I lost a ss today at thursday island
AM
Buggar -the cvs spotted coming south -I chicken out, and retire to the north.
hanoi is pounded, pounded, pounded -man, Tabpub has it in for that place!
Lunga is hit by heavies.

OK, Im faced with the fact that the Navy is reduced to a support the army
role.
A fast transport run will sprint towards lunga -4 CA and 6 DDs.
A even bigger one is going to go soon, as soon as KB can be refuelled, and got into position
Lunga is down to 400 supplies -things are grim!

the following bases were hit by more than 50 planes today
rahaeg
Buna
moulimien
hanoi
haipong
and 3 MLs sunk near lautern

In burma, 55 div is ordered to retire, a steady rotation of divisions is occuring in Burma -bangkok is proving to be a good base to recover units, lots of support there.

The posts are getting shorter and shorter, as so little of note is happening
Its bombing, bombing, and more you know what

A new feature -corsairs and boomerangs attack from Thursday island -hitting a crippled AP at Port Moresby

He deliberates at thursday -killing 1600.

In the DEI, all surface task forces are ready

In the solomons, the fast transport run was successful!
1500 units delivered unscathed and undetected!

Another bigger run is getting ready -covered by KB

maloelap is naval bombarded again, the invasion cannot be far away

Its been a string of easy takes for Tabpub -kwel will be different
Lots, and lots of troops there, and more coming.

Only 1 action of note today -20 zero try to intercept the PM raid -8 kittyhawk, 9 corsair, 22 boomerang
I lose 4 zeros, 1 kittyhawk shot down

The next 2 transport runs are loading -one for lunga, one for russel.
Here i use the CAs, and I will use the fast BBs as well, they can carry a lot of stuff!

The fast transport run to russell was poorly done -CA Kuma gets 5 bombs, and is out of the war.....

Nevertheless, another bigger one sails from rabual, and KB is waiting for it, east of buka island.

he bombs all over burma, and attacks at thursday , rennell island.

Im hoping to get Lunga restocked for the battle to come -cannot be long now.

Only 2 actions of note today

20 jake attack south of rennel -3 corsairs shoot down 3, but a DM is hit nicely

Jakes doing better than zeros!!!

Also finchesen launched 20 betty, and 14 zeros against thursday island shipping.
5 boomerang, 5 kittyhawk and 7 corsair intercept
1 betty lost, 6 zero lost, 1 kittyhawk shot down
2 AK sunk!

KB is northeast of lunga, covering a very, very large fast transport, 2 days and it goes in -I hope to get 4500 units of supply in.

Tomorrow is such a risk!

Thursday island is finished -the troops finally destroyed there.

The tokyo express has gone in, and got out OK!

His planes at Rennell get a shock -40 P 400 attacking barges run into 20 zeros, and 10 are shot down
Also at Milne bay 20 liberators meet 60 fighters of various makes on LRCAP, and 11 go down

I have a new focus for the navy now -it is for purely army support, then look for opportunities.
3 cv are coming down from Sorong in case his convoy at Thursday (where he is obviously trying to recover all those shattered troops) goes to darwin -would be nice to intercept it.
More CVEs and CVLs are LRCAPing Milne Bay, along with woodlark planes -as a great big convoy goes in.
KB proper has just covered a very large fast transport to Lunga -and that will be her role until tabpub finally attacks

Must admit -he missed the bus, i was on the ropes for planes last month, I have some fighting strength now.
Zekes flowing nicely, but thats about it though!

Completed traing of groups in singapore -they go to china -Im a idiot -all that bombing of hanoi ect -he is training chinese pilots -well lets see if we can ruin that party!

Just wish he would attack -I struggle to think of a AAR where the allies have made such a small advance by now.
Im sure when it comes -it will be an avalanche!

I got badly behind in the AAR here -and then in a big clean up of the computer desk, ditched my notes

Little has happened until today luckily -he continues to pound haiphong, hanoi and all the bases in burma

Over the last couple of days 3 CV sneak down towards Thursday island

All resistance at Rennell ceased, and at Akyab as well.

The war though is hotting up at long last
13/8/43
AM -his corsairs and boomerangs hit PM shipping wrecks again
83 zeros and 27 betty make a surprise attack from madang
19 kittyhawk and 15 corsair intercepted -35 zeros lost, 11 betties to flak

CL st loius 1 torp
CL phoenix 2 torp
3 corsair shot down, 14 kittyhawk shot down

Then the cvs attacked,
51 zero, 30 judy, 16 jill
12 corsair shot down 22 zekes, 2 s/d
2 aks heavily hit, 2 msw sunk?

The raid a minor success, the cvs run away
Now I have to rebuild a few units.

oil drops below 350000 total

Just the dawn of the dying empire day!

15/8/43
Things are happening in Burma
The chinese cross the border from china into vietnam
i expected 3 militia units -they did not show up!
Buggar -now what -hanoi is doomed

he recons the entire burma coast, and bombs and bombs -up to 150 planes at a time here

I am forced to send a div from malaya to vietnam -its going to be a long march.

It appears that a great offensive is happening in burma -but still not totally clear what is his plan
Along the river 8 units face me at moulimien, 5 rahaeg
he is bombing all the rear bases.

Ships sighted north of rangoon -BBs?

Everywhere else remanis quiet
The 3 CVs in the timor area are going to run cover for some reinforcements for lautern

malaelop is pounded today by BBs
moulmien -95 hurricanes, 50 beuforts -a typical raid
hanoi -30 heavies, 85 mitchell -a typical raid
hanoi -60 more medium bombers
He recons vic point today

tavoy is bombed -30 heavies
3 betties from Kwal miss shipping at malaelop

BBs aproaching rahaeng!

Orders for the day
malaya div released
100 tonies are relaesed from the phillipines -begin to transit towards the front
nothing else I can do.

And Burma explodes
moulmien is pounded by BC repulse, BB POW, ramilies and valiant, 2cl and 6 dds
Ouch
Worse, 2 chinese divs bounce across the river in the hex east of moulmien -and shock my regiment out!
he is across the river!

At hanoi -no vietnamese troops for herbiesan -and i treated the population well too -falls to 5 chinese divisions!

Reaction:
2 regiments from bangkok -the reserve begin to march to rahaeg
The malaya div has to got towards moulmien!
At davao -all the south sea china units there are told to load for siagon -where the tonies are waiting to provide cover, I need lots of units -he is into my rear areas now.
not very happy with no units turning up, he can roam at will in my rear areas now, the shattered hanoi troops went to haipong -doomed!

Only positive news -a fast transport run restocked Lautern successfully today

I have made a big strategic decision.
All troops north of shortlands -combat troops, are going to be pulled out -and sent to the inner circle -the solomons have been a wall for a long time, and have served there purpose, time to re approach the defence -I no longer think he will try for the solomons, so time to gather elsewhere.

It looks like the tabup adavance truly is via malaya.
And I fear I still do not have enough to stop him

Phew -caught up the AARs
Patched!
Hope the patch relaeses all those "organising pilots I have!

The most curious thing today -after a naval bombardment at Moulmien -troops begin to land!
But not huge waves of men, just a division.
really not sure what he is doing
I refuse to be drawn, and will stay behind my size 9 fort.

The patch allows quite a few planes that were organising to be released -great stuff

Plans

haipong is about to be attacked
hanoi has fallen -33rd div is marching via siagon from bangkok towards vietnam, its all i can do
53 div moves towards tavoy from further south

I have a convoy of many ships and a AV regiment headed towards lautern, my CVs move to cover it -this will be nasty!

In the solomons I have arrived at the conclusion -get the majority of combat troops out!
transports are headed that way from where ever I can scrape them up.

I really still think I have the measure of tabpub strategically -if only I had more fuel and supplies, and oil!
