Status: offline 		I've been a fan of TOAW for a long time and played board wargames for longer. I've recently wanted to get back into board wargames. I know that this isn't really TOAW related, but since Avalon Hill and SPI are gone, what game companies should I look at for quality board type wargames now ? Also, Are scenarios for the older TOAW fully compattable with the new version ? I know.. stuped question but I was curious as I have a lot of old scenarios for the old versions.

Status: offline 		Scenarios made on older versions will need to first be converted to Century of Warfare, using the Opart 300 executable, under patch 1.04, before you convert it to TOAW III. This may require another conversion to bring it up to the latest version of whatever earlier version it was originally designed under.

With regard to boardgaming companies, I like a lot of the work that has come out of GMT Games, and Columbia Games, in the past few years. The Gamers (now a part of MMP) have some great series of games, as well, but to be honest, I haven't really followed them much since they sold out to MMP.

I concur - I've talked to Dan Essing, and he's a great guy. It was a shock to hear that they sold the biz to MMP, but Kurt Shilling(SP) is an avid wargamer himself, and it seems like a great fit.

And, he did get quite a few old AH'ers to come on board, too. I guess its "Son of AH"....

I live near the Susquhanna River in MD, and still am amazed that Don Greenwood (and quite a few old AH'ers) are around. Just up the road in Bel Air. The world never ceases to amaze...

Dean Essig was always available to take call in questions for me when The Gamers still existed as a separate entity. I had a series subscription to the OCS and SCS series, and whenever I would get them in the mail, it was a sure bet that I would be on the phone with him, within the week, seeking guidance on my dozens of "rules-lawyer" queries...

He was always pleasant, and would go into depth as to the intent of the rules. This helped immensely in solving those questions that my buddy and I would have to have answered before we could down and pulverize each other on the tabletop.

Status: offline 		Oh man ! You have no idea how much you made my day when you showed me that ASL still exists !!!!!  I saw what Hasbro did to some of the Avalon Hill games when they ate them up and was appalled.  The old and good titles need to go to a company that CARES about wargames.

I've been especially interested in naval games lately.. I've been doing a lot of the miniatures naval ones from Clash of Arms games. Has any company picked up the old Avalon Hill game Jutland at all ? That used to be a favorite of mine that I no longer have 8(. The scope for that was pretty impressive, it could be played with miniatures or just the counters on a floor or table and you could have up to 75 ships slugging it out. Doing that with the Clash of Arms games rules would take forever and requite binders worth of ship reccord sheets. hehe.

My dream game is to get a copy of Avalon Hills The Longest Day... the monsterous game that took up a full ping pong table and had like a billion counters and took me and my buddy several months to play through all the way (So the game was very aptly nammed). I've been seeing it on ebay for like $150 to $200. I wish that could be republished.

Status: offline 		If you enjoy naval games, you might look at the line from Avalanche Press, both the Great World War at Sea, and the Second World War at Sea - most still available retail.

Status: offline 		Avalanche Press is doing a terrific job - much better than most.  I am addicted to the whole Panzer Grenadier tactical series, and the Second World War naval series is a blast, as well.
