It strikes me that this is a 3 finger operation by Andy, and maybe just a distraction.

No, I'm not overstacking, had some 450 ac in total at Singapore with 254 AS, 50k supplies, Air HQ etc.
Andy will simply unload his division in the little place he captured with 100 paras. Then he can march
all over the place. Hopefully we can delay him, but within 2 months the place will be a veritable Allied
land carrier.

Our only chance of defeating an enemy landing is by air attack. Uber CAP prevents this completely. Add the
atomic effect of the 26 hex range B-29s, and all we can achieve is to delay the enemy. But that's fine, I'll
fine some teleporting kamikaze Zekes with 60 exp and see what happens.

While we have an Army in Malaya, it's spread out and not capable of offensive operations.

An outline:

Singapore:

56th Div. (Elite 99 exp/morale from India)
4th SNLF
Air/Army/Fleet HQs
4th Aviation Reg
25th Special Base Force
Heavy AA Regiment

Johore Baru:

Army HQ
Sasebo 3rd SNLF
21st Engineer Regiment
1st Tank Regiment
6th Coastal Defense unit
4th Mixed B/Brigade

Mersing:

3th Ind. Mix /B Brigae

Georgetown:

Sasebo 8th SNLF
26th Special Base Force

Khota Baru:

Engineer Regiment
(Full division will arrive in 22 days)

Alor Star:

70th Ind. Mix B/ Brigade
Base Force

Song Kia:

NLF unit
-----------------------------------------

Even if we had 3 more divisions, we would not have been able to achieve much more than delay
Andy a few more days. So I think the number of troops are suitable. If this operation truly is
the main offensive, I will continue preparations for the battles to come closer to the Home Island.

Will try one little trick tomorrow though

Our 3 operational destroyers from Sing sailed to Georgetown and found the enemy

Enemy invasion of Malaya

As you can see the situation is quite confused for the moment. Looks like we're going
to save our 3 cruisers that were trapped in Singapore. It's way too dangerous to deploy the
Fleet, any unexpected moves by an enemy carrier fleet will cost us dearly.

In a way I would like to committ the Fleet, but this game got a year to run and I really need something to play with
in 45 to have something to look forward to

Thx for reading Ctangus, opposition will be stiff, but the effectiveness will wary!
Since I have not, and most likely will not, been able to hit any enemy capital ships - enemy strength will continue to soar.

One day I will try a 500 ac kamikaze attack by Zekes. Perhaps we can get another escort carrier

Busy days in the office, and soon I'll be having a 10 day vacation with the gf
The war will have to find something else to do until then!

Privet Pauk,

Back from a nice vacation
Still a lot of things on the agenda, but I'll try to get a few turns done every now and then.

Yesterday we hit the enemy with several kamikaze units: while many got through, the majority of even
highly skilled kamis hit the ocean instead of their targets Japan got a lot of negative multipliers
in 1944 it seems.

Andy tells me that he will reduce CAP to 40-60% for his carriers and divide them into smaller TFs. This is nice
of him, maybe we can score a hit every now and then. Radar will most likely scramble up to 90% of carrier CAP though.

I'm trying to organize resistance in the Malaya peninsuale, but it's quite messy with dozens of fragmented air units.
The fleet remains in port for now, still got 3 cv's that haven't completed their repairs. A bit afraid that the super
long range B-29s can hit all our ports soon, very difficult to defend against their extremely accurate carpet bombing
of docked ships!

It's been my experience that Allied flak disrupts most attacks pretty heavily while they are stocked up on ammunition, especially at this stage of the war.
What I did is use the crap pilots on the first day to soak up AA, then use the more experienced ones after that. That's about the only way I could get decent Kami strikes through.

For what its worth...Could have been my imagination also - hard to tell sometimes.

That's my take on it also PzB.

In my game vs Faber I have just implemented a 40% CAP limit as the Allies and my first (I only have this one encounter to base on so far though) experience is not good for the Japanese. Even with 40% CAP my CV's scrambled 80-90% of their Corsairs (Brit CV's)............

I know, but still - it's a nice gesture of Andy! Game mechanics should allow more random numbers of CAP given
surprise.

Rejoyce with me! Finally we hit a high value target - it was of course one of our nocturnal birds of prey that
struck home

The Intrepid takes a long lance at night!!

Another bloody turn: we loose 176 to 72 ac - but the bulk of our losses is kamis and Oscars.
I continue to challenge Andy in Malaya, he only got one small base and there must be a lot of damaged
and fatigued squadrons in that malaria pit

Mining of the straits continues and I'm considering more potent efforts.
Still, a large part of our Air Force is kept in reserve closer to the Home Islands.
Malaya will soon reinforce itself with the arrival of a full division at Khota Baru.

PzB, when was your last kamikaze hit ? What did you do since then ?

I wonder if thisfailure to hit anything (even with experienced pilots) may be linked with the fact that your retook Zaombaga, and so are no more able to convert units to kamikaze. So the game will have somewhere an indicator saying 'No kamikaze allowed' and so all kamikazes can't hit anything.

Forgot to upload the screenie with the last post!

Well, I have scored kami hits after Zaombanga, hit an LST with 4 not long ago.
Their efficiency have dropped noticable though

Yes, he's a bit cocky Banana man I've put thousand mines in the straits but his ships haven't found one
Sure there will be a price to pay though!

Andy unleashes almost 200 fighters from Malacca against Singapore and a fierce
a2a battle takes place before the heavies comes in.

As usual I'm forced to disregard losses, ac destroyed on the ground can easily be
replaced. Again we are causing extremely high casualty rates among the US naval aviators.
We've driven Andy crazy before, so why not do it again

As promised I'm keeping Formosa and the PI strongly defended and feeding only air reserves
from China into the fray. The enemy's long long supply lines from the US-Oz and Malay must make
it extremely difficult to battle several thousand Jap ac. So let's see who cracks first

One day bad weather will ground Andy's sweeps, and then his heavy's will pay a costly price for
their intrusion. Air transports from numerous bases in Burma and Borneo are bringing in reinforcements
to threatened sectors. Johore Baru reports that an enemy LUC has entered the areas ZOC. Soon we'll start
a bombing campaign by Army Bombers. This will force Andy to LRCAP his LCUs as well.

A huge enemy fleet is 'trapped' at Malacca. When it leaves there will be mines, subs and hundreds of bombers
ready to greet them.

Air to air losses!

Our losses on the ground makes the numbers ugly, but that's not important.
Can we hold Johore Bahur with approx 1.5 div worth of troops? This will effectively bar
the way into Singapore. If we only could mount daily bomber attacks against enemy LCU,
I'm pretty sure we could hold. So the battle for Singapore will continue.

More Jacks and Zekes have been moved in from China and shattered units are being rebuilt as
between 40-80% of their pilots are still fit for fight. This way it will be very difficult for
Andy to win a battle of attrition before he can occupy more bases in Malaya.

As suspected, Andy wasn't too happy about his naval fighters getting toasted last turn
Some of his cv's are sailing south through the straits again now. Given a peaceful turn, Singapore
is yet again bustling with fighters on CAP.

good results and brilliant tactic,PzB - keep it up... as you pointed his supply routes are extremely long this is his weak spot!

re Johore - how many divisions Andy have in Malaya? With fort 9 one and half crack division could hold against 3-4 enemy divisions (especially if enemy units preparing for Singapore

I'm preparing a suprise for Andy tonight also (been lazy to update AAR) so perhaps we can ruin his day

Greetings Samurai-San!
Well, wars are not won by defensive efforts. I prepared 150 bombers and 120 fighters at Palembang with
most fighters on escort. Wanted to get to Andy's convoys. Of course a carrier TF appeared with 140 Hellcats
and Corsairs on CAP, must be 90% scrambled by 4 cvs. Of course they shot down everything that came at them.

The dilemma is that my attack capabilities are extremely restricted. For the cost of 500 ac I can barely hit
a single enemy ship I'm starting to be a bit insensitive to all this, but it's a shame that so much fun is
lost because of this d@mnedUber CAP!! I can't understand why Matrix doesn't adjust it in their patches

Looks like Andy is now marching north from Malacca. Won't be able to hold him there, so the future of Malay looks grim.
Enemy transports and carriers may also be heading north on the east side of Singapore.

PzB a way to prevent such slaugthers is to use the possibility to limit the range of your air units, for example if you want Soerabaja units to attack Tf off Banjarmasin set the range just for this area. I have found it to work well to reduce the losses in 43-44 (even if I have never reached the date you're now).

Also when you target a TF in a base with low CAP, send a sweep to clear the skies. Fighters behave better than in escort mode, and they will fly where you want them to go. So maybe bombers will go elsewhere, but that is another problem....

A good thing that kamikaze still work !

I think Andy felt bad about yesterdays slaughter of the innocent....he provided a
big juicy undefended convoy 1 hex of Singapore today (well, the 6 P38s on LRCAP claimed
enough victims). Some 120 bombers savaged the convoy. Expecting the heavies tomorrow.

Undefended convoys is pretty much all we're good at this days.

I do restrict bomber range Laurent, problem is that sometimes other and better defended convoys
move into the range that is needed, e.g. to reach Banjarmasan. This immediately triggers our bombers
suicide instincts!-(

Sometimes I don't have fighters with a normal range of 5-6 hexes available for sweep or escort missions.
Java is very much a secondary theater.

Kamis seems to be working, but not all the time and not always properly.
Today 9!!!!! experienced Sallys all dived on and hit an LCS. Aaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!

LOL! I'd say that your comment about grown men crying is more true than you know. I'm sure Andy will be VERY unhappy with that result. Andy is pushing so hard he is uncovering weaknesses he could keep covered if he moved a little more slowly. Just keep finding and hitting them as best you can. This will take a toll over time.

P.s. Are you not ready at this stage to weaken the Phillipines and Thailand/Burma a little to bolster Malaysia. You simply cannot afford to let him get a foothold here and he has invested too much for this to be a minor diversionary effort.

Going for Malaya isn't a diversion.  All He has to do is land troops on the peninsula and take a base.  Once there the attrition rapidly swings in the allies favour, and Pzb needs to be looking to salvage what he can, and move back to his next line of defence?

Definetly not a diversion, but I'm glad Andy invaded Malaya and not the PI!

1. Malaya can't be held as there are a dozen bases that can be invaded and I can't have 2 divisions in each.
Just like in France the Allies can choose a place to land overwhelming force and within 2 days a counterstrike becomes impossible.

2. I don't want to send dug in troops from Formosa and the PI to Malaya as this would only serve one purpose: cause Japan more
losses and hurt our defenses closer to the Home Islands. I can't see it's anywhere near healthy to load a division with 100 pp for Manila on
slow transports and send them to Khota Baru and force march them through the jungle towards Malacca.

3. A fresh division will arrive in Khota Baru in 14 days - hopefully this will delay Andy even further. We're now in October 1944, the historically
date for the invasion of the PI. While the fall of major bases in Malaya will hurt and allow B-29s to hit even more bases deep inside the Empire and
cut our supply of oil and resources from the DEI, there isn't much time left before the war ends.

At this time in the war it's more about preventing total defeat than winning major victories for Japan. As I see it a major invasion of Formosa or the PI
will have to be postponed until Jan-Feb 45, and it will take time before Andy can threaten the Home Islands. I'm confident that we can hold of the storm and negotiate a favorable peace by August 45!

A bit baffled by how enemy troops have dispersed all around Malacca: when an attack finally
went in, it was weak. On other fronts I've been given time to assemble troops and prepare?

The 2 remaining Kongo battlecruisers have received their 10/44 upgrade: some 1360 AA.
This should be the last of the upgrades.

The Dinah-KAI FB goes into production. I also halted production of transports. Will save a lot of engines
pr month. Stocks should last a while.

Put it where they WILL be at the end of the turn. If they are moving at 2/2 then they will be TWO hexes north.

However, won't they be slowed to 1/1 with the damage you've inflicted?

The convoy may well sail only 1 hex during the night, either because of damage or because escorts refuel, so I will rather try the intercept one hex above the known position.

By the way combine this with as much night naval air attacks as you can.. If your TF ends in the same hex as the convoy you have a good chance that your aircraft will attack.

The damaged convoy has reached Malacca already: I'm just trying to figure out how
to intercept enemy TFs in the future. I've noticed than an enemy TF with a speed of 1/1 or 2/2
may move 1 or 2 hex during the night movement phase. Thus, to successfully intercept both skill and
luck is needed.

Smaller raids hit an enemy convoy and sinks 2 LCI and 2 destroyer escorts.

I'm moving construction and engineer units to Singapore, 339 engineers there already.
Want to fix damage as quickly as possible.

Here is a suggestion for future patches: Each base got pool of repair points to spend each turn and these
can be divided 33/33/34 between Port/Runaway/AC Service. Always repairing the port first wrecks havoc with
my ability to keep ac serviced in a war zone base.
