Just picked up WitP, so got a lot to learn! But, doubt it will be any harder then learning the Europa Series, with a map that covered the whole living room floor, way back when!

But, now that I've updated to 1.8.0.4, what would be the best route to follow, as far as adding in modded files by the community? What are some basic things to add, that might enhance the sim, and that works good with this updated version?

Have read some threads on this, but somewhat confused as to what works ok now?

Any help appreciated in this regard! Looks like a great group around here to learn from!

Eddie

The only things I've added are some of the great graphics done by various forum members... Mostly just the prettier/cleaner ship sides. Also some map mods to make it look a little better. Everything else is stock!

You will have plenty of opinions on these threads. Take time and read, ask questions. You will form your own opinion in short order.

Whatever version you choose to play, folks "new to the Pacific" are very welcome, and you are guaranteed to start and re-start several times, till you have learned all the aspects of the game.
This is normal in the learning process.
In time, you will be impressed by the amount of hidden details, and in time, will likely become a game critic, (because of finding certain troops with wrong divisional patches on Bora Bora, or something similiar, usually)..
Many people here will leap to help you..
Many resident comedians, and at least one curmudgeon.

Thanks everyone for your replies, its appreciated! I have enjoyed reading some threads around here, good to see folks with a sense of humor!

Have a lot of reading to do, thanks for the links, I think! Leaning towards SC Map, V2.1 Hope it works with this version, and the stock scenerio's. When I used to test for some flight sims dealing with the PTO, I hated to see ships cutting across islands, like they weren't there. Last night while mucking about with the Coral Sea missions, can't really call it playing yet, I saw the Shoho operating on the landside of the Gili-Gili base(hope thats the correct base) and for some reason, it just doesn't sit right with me,lol

So I'm hoping SC's map will fix that problem without throwing in a bunch of new scenerio's.

You should be aware that there are multiple versions of the map, some of which are just the stock map with prettified graphics, and some of which are total revisions of the map, with the geography moved around. All scenarios have a specific map which they were designed for. There is nothing to prevent you from loading up a scenario designed for one map, while you have a totally incompatible map installed. This is the main thing to be careful of when you begin to venture away from stock.

After doing some extra reading, just going to concentrate on learning the system, and worry about mods later on. As for the Shoho being on land for a bit, will deal with that for now!

Trying to understand the original orders some units have at the start of the Coral Sea venture, I don't totally agree with those orders. As for the Shoho and other carriers, would never have them operate so close to land based air even if in support of the landings at Gili-Gili. Not that big of an operation to put them in such a dangerous position, so early on, plus as soon as they finish with their support, they are ordered back all the way to Truk? What for? North of Rabaul would make more sense to me, and wait to see if a US TF show up some where. Oh well, lots to learn yet, but having some fun !!

Always nice to see fresh meat on the menu.
