Will get you a screenie when the major battles in the DEI cools down Monter!
Most of my subs are in Japan, got 12-14 left me thinks. In 3 months a major RO program will deliver 20-30 subs.
Planning a major campaign when the Inner Citadel is invaded.

Nishimura managed to NOT find any enemy ships, even though the area was crammed!
Nishumura didn't even get back to Palembang, with a move range of 6/6 he moved a mere 8 or 9 hexes.
It's almost impossible to predict were a strike force will end up after a battle.

Today it at first looked like this might have been a lucky thing, but in the end it proved to be a nasty surprised - most surprisingly

Andy was quite gutsy, he sailed his fleets straight towards Palembang and Batavia as he owned the area.
With only CVE's for defense his Escort Carrier fleet was ripped to pieces: No less than 6!!! cve's were crippled, 2 sinking outright.
4 enemy destroyers were also destroyed north of Java while numerous enemy aux and transport ships were hit and damaged.

Our losses in the air were acceptable, even though there was a price to be paid.

Today was a major victory for the Empire! Andy's long trek between Oz and Malay will claim more victims to come as our major
bases from Singapore to Soerabaja launches raid after raid against the enemy convoys.

BANZAI!

Day time Surface Combat

I was SOOO looking forward to crushing the remaining CVE's with my surface fleet...only to find that
2 IOWAs and their TF was also in the hex Not a good day for Nishimura, had to scuttle his flagship Aoba
and 3 destroyers. Although the enemy was surprised once, we didn't manage to score any Long Lance hits.

Well, guess there's always a price to pay. Kinugasa should be ok, 4 dd's are operational and will head for Batavia.
3 others will go to Palembang to man the pumps.

CVE Death Valley

Imagine my delight when wave after wave of bombers streamed in to cause death and destruction among the
enemy fleets. We still got a large and powerful AF to oppose the enemy with. Perhaps Andy thought he had depleted us?

Not yet, not yet my friend!

Holy shla-moly!!

Can you keep these Kamikaze attacks up? He may be lacking CAP now.. this could be the start of a very dangerous slippery slope for Andy: less carriers/AA escorts -> less CAP/AA -> more Kamikaze hits -> less carriers/AA escorts...

Kamis didn't play a big role in the last days battle.
I still have 7 kami conversions left, the bases Andy holds now does not provide me with more divine units.

Of the original squadrons converted to kamikaze 3/4 have been expended and are now being refilled by _lol_ exp pilots.
A few elite kamikaze Daitais are being kept on reserve, e.g on my carriers. Could come in handy.

The plan is to move in more waves of Judys, Jills and Grace bombers while my army and navy 2E bombers continue to lash out
against the enemy ships. I expect Andy to bring in his CV TFs again. If we can force him to keep these for convoy duties, he will
be hard pressed to mount another invasion

Worryingly enough for the tag team game VSWG's assessment is spot on. If you keep this up and can prevent major land based air rebasing for some time you will end up reaching a tipping point at which time Allies loss rates will accelerate markedly.

Wow. I didn't see that one coming at all. Perhaps Andy really is being too reckless?

RIP Nishimura...
Hail to PzB san!

You're still putting a much better fight than your historical counterpart - but I guess Andy is really pissed off now...

I'm afraid Andy got so much hardware that he will barely notice the loss of the ships.
The naval pilots perhaps...!-)

An enemy CV TF moved in and prevented us from doing more than hitting another damaged CVE today.
We also lost the Kinugasa, but 50 enemy naval fighters were shot down, mostly Wildcats and Hellcats.

Still, Andy has to trek south with his ships, so if he can keep them together with his carriers I'll be pleased to
stalk him until there's an opening.

What is your info about enemy land units at Malaya? Are you reconning them? Can you tell where is the biggest concentration of units?

BTW. Good work with those CVEs!!!

Japan got sharp teeth, but the enemt is wearing chain mail, so it's kinda hard to get a good bite

I got 200 fighters and 200 bombers left in Palembang/Java, uncertain how I should use them.
This is the CAP protecting the enemy fleets moving south towards Java:
F4F-4 Wildcat x 2
FM-2 Wildcat x 51
F6F Hellcat x 42
F4U-1D Corsair x 16

If I could launch one huge strike I wouldn't hesitate, but I'm afraid they will get split up.
Ideas?

Enemy LCUs are spread from Johore Bahru to Georgetown and Alor Star. Must be 50 altogether. Hopefully
Andy will have to spend some time bringing in supplies and mopping up. Tavoy and Bangkok are being turned into
major forts.

I'm going to re-train my shattered air groups - for the 40th time....
Slowly moving troops to the Home Islands defense, doubt there will be an all out enemy invasion of the Marianas
now. Still keeping a strong garrison, will require a major effort to invade. I really need the 250+ AV support in the
7 bases in the Marianas/Palaus. Will evacuate when I know more about Andy's intentions.

The Combined Fleet

I've repaired most of the KB - only the Zuikakau refuses all attempts at repair. With 3 Naval HQs,
300 repair yard points and 2 ARs repair rate is down to 1-2 points pr week.

Grimlock says, me thinks it's time for some raiding party, grrrrroar!

Are you sure you don't want to sortie the heavies against the ships in the Malacca strait?
Everything you did with your cruisers, if you had done it with your battleship, maybe there would be an Essex or a Iowa sleeping on the ocean floor by now - will they remain a fleet in being?

PzB, try with changing leader - it worked me for heavily damaged DD which had critical flooding. I've put highly skilled leader with great insipiration and high admin skills (app 50). Interestingly, flooding (70) starting to decrease next turn and i saved her...

I'm really interested about Zuikaku commander ratings?

The Zuikakau had a competent Captein, exchanged him with a high morale fiber guy...can't hurt!-)

I sortied what ships I found 'expendable' of Singapore. Could only send ships with a high top speed (30+), as it's
essential to close in on enemy TFs without being bombed to death.

I'm going to keep the Combined Fleet in being and repair all sys damage. Soon more ships will be repaired, and I want
to give my cv's their last AA upgrade. Going to use 100's of MSWs and PCs to supplement the fleet when the enemy makes
his final move in 1945. Want to go out in a flash of glory

Not going to launch my bombers against the enemy fleet sailing past Java. My bombers were at medium to high morale, not sure
60-70 morale is enough to get them through the CAP though. Sortied an AP towards the enemyt fleet and ordere 170 fighters to LRCAP it.
Let's see if we can shoot down some marauding enemy bombers and fighters. Andy is low on naval jocks!-)

Singapore has been repaired: moved out the bulk of my stranded air units, including 2x27 ac Betty Daitais with 27 pilots and 80 exp.
Almost 2 divisions from India will bolster the defenses south of Rangoon and 2 regiments are marching from Mandalay. Bangkok already
has 500 AP. If I can force Andy to use his fleet to land his troops we can inflict much more casualties.

A full division arrived in Khota Baru and I'm lifting it out. It's needed to bolster our
defenses in Burma. Seems like Andy is massing his LCUs in central Malaya. Singapore next?
Convoy after convoy are reaching Rangoon, want to put up a stiff defense.

India has now been stripped for as many units as I can spare. Rest are garrison units, very
few reserves left. They will be able to put up a good defense though, lvl 9 forts everywhere.

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 10/13/44

Air Combat

The LRCAP over the transport close to the enemy flee worked!
24 Helldivers and some 110 odds Hellcats and Wildcats met a pretty strong CAP,
much stronger than what the numbers below indicate.

54 naval fighters and 5 dive bombers were shot down! Andy's not going to be happy.

Just saw Andy's AAR about the upcoming turn...
This struggle is really merciless, and you're two great players, slapping each other on the face nearly every turn... That's great show, the final outcome of the show will be spectacular, no doubt

That's true Fish! I have to keep trying, sometimes I get lucky. Those 6 cve's for example
The Uber CAP is still a major problem as radar boost enemy CAP close to 100%.

Still, most of todays losses were made up of medium exp pilots and units that
only had 50% left of their ac. Will rotate them back to China/PI and rebuild.
There are plenty of replacement units and ac in reserve. Just now way to use them.

Slowly pulling troops back from the frontier bases as Andy got his attention elsewhere.
From now on there will be few bases with less than 7-9 fort levels.

Started production of the special Ohka carrying Betty. Read that it was bugged and would
never hit anything, so not sure it's worth it, but let's give it a try.

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 10/14/44

Air Combat

Moved some low morale Army bombers to Singapore. They can hit the cripples...

Day Air attack on TF at 22,50

Japanese aircraft
Ki-49 Helen x 6

Japanese aircraft losses
Ki-49 Helen: 1 damaged

Allied Ships
TK L.P. St. Clair, Bomb hits 3, on fire, heavy damage

Aircraft Attacking:

Ki-84-Ia Frank: 4 destroyed

Allied aircraft losses
F6F Hellcat: 1 damaged
F4U-1D Corsair: 2 damaged
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A larger main strike: unfortunately too many fighters stayed home and a larger bomber
strike fragment got diverted. Only 2 bombers got through the Uber CAP...Losses from engaging
the enemy over their own turf are heavy.

Day Air attack on TF at 24,62

Japanese aircraft
A6M5 Zeke x 13

G4M1 Betty x 9
G4M2 Betty x 52

Ki-43-IIa Oscar x 7
Ki-84-Ia Frank x 32

Allied aircraft - Some 75% fighters on CAP according to Andy. 3 cv's and 2 cvl's hold
300 fighters? Sounds a bit much, so I guess that closer to 100% of the fighters went on CAP
despite of Andy's 50% settings.

F4F-4 Wildcat x 2
FM-2 Wildcat x 75
F6F Hellcat x 79
F4U-1D Corsair x 31

Aircraft Attacking:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Low exp Kami attack from Java - seems impossible to get ac to join hands in
combined strikes these days.

P1Y Frances: 13 destroyed

Allied aircraft losses

F4U-1D Corsair x 26
F6F-5N Hellcat x 13

Japanese aircraft losses
Ki-43-IIa Oscar: 9 destroyed
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
And small kami attack against Banjarmasin: no more luck.

Day Air attack on TF, near Banjarmasin at 27,64

Japanese aircraft
Ki-45 KAIc Nick x 4

Allied aircraft
Kittyhawk III x 4
P-40N Warhawk x 15

Japanese aircraft losses
Ki-45 KAIc Nick: 4 destroyed

In all some 2/200 bombers got through today

Day Air attack on TF at 24,62

Japanese aircraft
Ki-21 Sally x 3

Allied aircraft
F4F-4 Wildcat x 1
FM-2 Wildcat x 25
F6F Hellcat x 20
F4U-1D Corsair x 9
F6F-5N Hellcat x 5

Japanese aircraft losses
Ki-21 Sally: 3 destroyed

Allied aircraft losses
F6F Hellcat: 1 damaged

Ground Combat

Ground combat at Johore Bahru - quite horrible losses from these bombardments.
Attackers in the jungle should be feeling the effect of malaria!

Allied Bombardment attack

Attacking force 31476 troops, 365 guns, 0 vehicles, Assault Value = 763

Defending force 29182 troops, 259 guns, 122 vehicles, Assault Value = 497

Japanese ground losses:
391 casualties reported
Guns lost 7
Vehicles lost 4
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Air Losses

Even though we suffered heavy losses, we did destroy 43 enemy ac. That gives
us a 1-5 ratio on a bad day with 200 bombers getting slaughtered by the Uber CAP.
Andy will meet much heavier resistance when he makes his next move

Yes, guess Andy's moving base force units! Not sure his bases in the south are within air transport
range of Malaya.

Relatively quiet: Andy is building up forces for an attack on Singapore and Eastern Malaya.
It will become unpleasent when Singapore falls, but 1000 ac on ground attack will be hard to resist.
So let's fight for as long as possible.

The Army in Burma is growing, should be able to face the enemy in a few weeks with 6-7 divisions.

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 10/16/44

Air Combat

Small strike from Palembang just east of Singapore.

Day Air attack on TF at 21,49

Japanese aircraft
A6M5 Zeke x 9
P1Y Frances x 7

Allied aircraft
P-38J Lightning x 19

Japanese aircraft losses
A6M5 Zeke: 2 destroyed
P1Y Frances: 1 destroyed

Allied aircraft losses
P-38J Lightning: 1 damaged
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Small strike from Soerabaja.

Day Air attack on TF at 26,66

Japanese aircraft
B7A Grace x 9

Allied aircraft
F4F-4 Wildcat x 1
FM-2 Wildcat x 31
F6F Hellcat x 32
F4U-1D Corsair x 11
F6F-5N Hellcat x 9

Japanese aircraft losses
B7A Grace: 9 destroyed

Allied aircraft losses
F6F Hellcat: 1 damaged
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ground Combat

I'm preparing to withdraw into fortress Singapore. Enemy strength is increasing at
Johore Bahru.

Ground combat at Johore Bahru

Trying to produce the III Dinah III - KAI, but production is transferred to another?
model each time. So it doesn't look like the game will allow me this FB?? Will ask Joe to
check this out.

Same problem with any outdated models. I got 2 formations still equipped with the older version
of the Betty that can't be upgraded (bug?), but if I try to produce more it gets auto upgraded

If Andy had rushed on he could have captured Tavoy and Bangok, but now my defenses have been upgraded.
Feel rather confident that we can hold for some time, especially since Andy has to reduce Singapore first.

Got some 2000 ac resting and training, need ca 2 months to be 100% ready for another round.
This time with the KB and 20 new subs me hopes. All kamikaze units will also be filled with new ac and pilots.
Will unleash some pretty big waves with more experienced units mixed in next time.

Zuikaku down to 19 sys damage, still slow going. The Mutsu is down to 10 sys while the Ise still struggles
with 43.

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 10/17/44

Air Combat

Nothing much of interest: Enemy bomardments against the usual bases.
I've moved 100 fighters to Truk: will try to keep it open. Want a base to hit
the enemy in the flank from. Andy need his Lightnings elsewhere, so if he only
keeps sending his bombers....

Ground Combat

I'm evacuating Johore - see the sit screen! Andy got some 2329 AP assembled
and I only got 3(+99%:p) forts in Johore and we're taking causalties from bombardments.

Plan is to gather 1000 AP in Singapore behind a river and 9 forts. This will slow Andy down.

Ground combat at Johore Bahru

Allied Bombardment attack

Attacking force 31865 troops, 381 guns, 0 vehicles, Assault Value = 2329

Defending force 5992 troops, 38 guns, 97 vehicles, Assault Value = 133

Japanese ground losses:
504 casualties reported
Guns lost 4
Vehicles lost 24

Not much to report, still re-grouping in Burma. Bringing some oil out of Palembang
in single tankers. Most air units are now back at full strength. Almost depleted the Zeke

Andy was a bit dissappointed as my troops at Johore withdrew before he could get to them!
So how long will it take him to capture Singapore? Depends on how much air bombardment he thinks
is necessary. Marching over that river will cost him a bloody shock attack.

Hi PZB,
since you have a wonderful list of allied units do you know when you have seen those units the last time ? What is the r&r time of the allied units you have spotted before ? At what intervals canhe throw them back into the fray to harass the glorious PZB Empire ?

This AAR is just the best

Wish I could Fish, but the nearest big air bases to Sing are Palembang and in Borneo.
Don't have enough long range fighters to put up an efficient LRCAP. Throwing in 200 fighters
in Sing would mean that they would be trapped there, so I guess we just have to sit back and take it.

Each day that fortress Singapore holds out is another day that our pilots can train and another day that
our engineers can build stronger forts and another day our shipyards can repair battle damage and ready new
ships of war

Thx Rainerle, a bit silent on this AAR for the time being - always like that in between major battles.
Must say I don't have control over R&R time for Allied units, but I do know that we don't have to worry about
the 2nd Marine Division ever again (RIP!) The 1st Marine was worn down in the battles for New Britain if I
don't got it wrong, not sure when I saw the 3rd last time.

Anyone with a lot of time on his hand is welcome to browse back through the history of this AAR and look at the screens
taken of the last long drawn land campaign in New Guinea, New Britain and the Marshalls.

The cl Yahagi that was bombed to a wreck moved out of Saigon today, heading for Hong Kong with
88 sys damage. Saved a lot of good ships lately, and quite a few destroyers and cruisers will soon
rejoin the fleet. Pretty sure Andy considered them write offs!

Been thinking about sending the KB on a raid far away from Singapore and the Allied fleets. Maybe
we could strike an enemy convoy really hard somewhere without putting it at risk?

There are 3 fleet and 3 light carriers at our disposal, the 3 cv's could form a fast and powerful
strike force. The cvl's would only slow them down.

Possible that I'll wait a little while, still got 5 and 6 sys damage on the Shokakau and Katsuragi,
and they lack their latest upgrade. Wish we could have had a 120 ac version of the Shinano ready by now.
Just BS that we have to take the 48 ac supply cv version

Andy LRCAP'ed Singapore and we lost 10 transports. Managed to bring in enough
reinforcements to boost AP value by 40, so the effect of last weeks bombardments
has been nullified

Got 600 transports in the pools, so we continue for a little while longer.
Would like to maximize a strike from Palembang/Java against an Allied carrier force.
Will move an Air HQ and a steady trickle of reinforcements to the area and prepare for
the day the stars are correctly positioned...

Moving garrison units to all minor bases in Burma, don't want an enemy paradrop behind my
lines again. Trying to scrounge another couple of NLFs.
