Hi, Ha light wieght. All nighters don't end before midnight they end 15 minutes before morning formation. (Thank goodness for electric shavers)
You don't get a midnight snack and 3 hours sleep after an "ALL NIGHTER"

Yeah, that would sort of be a contradiction in terms, wouldn't it? An "all nighter" than only lasts for half the night...

Hi, well it's been quite a lot of time and finally things seem to be moving again. I have a unit and MOS and should be into system by mid next week. (actually I have 2 MOS one I need to go to school for 92G Food service and the other 11B infantry that I can use right away.
Barring any unforseen hangups my first drill is in decemebr and I have been told the unit wants to send me to school/s right away. I'll try to get a picture to post so you can see how fierce I look.

Haven't been around in awhile, congrats, Russ, hope things are proceeding smoothly.
You sound kind of like a buddy of mine: Marines (Force Recon), followed by Army (Special Forces) then Navy (SEALs), the guy made O3 often enough to cummulatively have been flag rank by now. We used to tell him he ought to do the air Force and Coast Guard to make it a clean sweep. He also kept accumulating college degrees between services.
Have fun with it.

Hi, Try to get all this squared away I just discovered somthing you would think i should already know.
In the navy I had 9 ribbons all worn on the left. In the Army I still have 9 but 3 of them move over to the right.

Hi, OK in Navy and USMC you get 1 service stripe worn on sleeve for every 4 years service. In the Army it's 1 stripe per 3 years. Thats easy to figure out but then the Army has another stripe they wear on their sleeve and i am going to let my unit decide whats up with that.

Liberation of Kuwait Medal, Kuwaiti was authorized for wear by US in 1995 (I got out in 1992)

Congratulations and good luck !!

And since you are going to be a cook, I have a question...can you actually cook ? You know, there are cooks and army cooks, music and military music, chairs and electric chairs...

Good Luck glad to hear your on your way. Its funny but I have reoccurring dreams of being back in too. My dreams are usually nightmares though. I dream I am forced to go back into the Navy but at two ranks lower than when I retired. I always end up working for the people who use to work for me.

I have the same dream of being forced back. They are sending me back to Navy Boot Camp and I try to explain in panic "The rules are you only have to go to Boot Camp once".

Oliver.....I had many friends in the Bundeswehr when I was serving, but at that time, the Bundeswehr was kinda limited on where it sent people.
Some of the other nations can send their military all over the world, and for some, this might be the only chance to experience world travel, and broaden ones horizons.
Very similar to the adventures of Bilbo Baggins leaving Hobbiton...............

So I'm not the only one with Navy dreams??? I get periodic nightmares of being back on the Nimitz, and being late for watch, not being able to remember where the plant is.

Hi, Went to my first drill this weekend. Must say I am impressed with my new unit and new comrades.
Unit is HHC for 1st Bn 148th Infantry Regt 38th Division.

In WITP the 148th Rgt is part of the 37th (Buckeye) Div. It fought in NG and PI
Today the 1st Bn belongs to 38th (Cyclone)Div (That unit also fought in PI)

I have a few schools to attend. Looking forward to my first PT test and going to range to qualify with my weapon. (I always qualified expert in Marines)

At present 1 company from 1st Bn 148th Inf is deployed to Iraq. Most of the members of HHC company have been deployed at least once.

38th!!?? Wow...you must be close!..For a time after the Korean war, dad was a CO at Atterbury......
Some of the other dignitaries who passed thru there were the writers Jean Shepherd and Kurt Vonnegut JR..
It was also the last stateside home of the 106th ID,right before they were deployed to Belgium for the Battle of the Bulge.

I get a similar dream about having to go back through the police academy that I now teach at. Oh the horror......

At 21 I could keep up with the PT and put up with the BS. At nearly 39 I am not sure I could take either for too long.
