Kronenberg is a French lager IIRC. I don't personally like lager, I prefer cider or bitter.

Last bit of spam for now, but one which can probably apply to several other nationalities

Not quite sure what cider tastes like, but bitter is....well, bitter.

Cider sort of tastes like apples.  Well it's made from apples.  Mostly

It's food time!

Speaking of movies, last night was pure 80's nostalgia. Back to back on two different channels, perfectly timed one after the other:

Ferris Bueller's Day Off
Saint Elmo's Fire
Caddyshack

Luvverly...

Not at the moment I don't. I'm on a course, and assesment time is rolling round. And I need to do the (un)fitness test this week.

I think the AI in this game may be smarter than I thought. It's doing quite well through sheer bloody-mindedness, and it managed to put 6 torps into the Repulse.

Add Better off Dead, 16 candles, and Red Dawn to the list and you have the best movies of the era.

AI cheats but its dumb as a stump. In one game as the Japanese I sank 5 USN CVs one at a time. Every CV would strike at the Marshalls (?) on the way to SoPac...so I could set up my forces to intercept them.

Good morning Robert. A very nice day it is.

For everyone except RUPD, methinks. I wonder how his fingers are doing.

Maybe that'll teach him to just shoot them when they run

A police officer use excessive force? Never!

I was surprised to hear RUPD was even out chasing bad guys. I thought he had given that up for the desk.

I get to play in the street about 3 times a month on overtime. Shooting him did cross my mind but that would have required too much paper work as would administring a type 1 attitude adjustment. It was bad enough that I may have broken the poor home owner's porch railing. I saw it start to go and pulled the guy back before I pushed him through it and sent him for a 10-15 foot fall. That would not have been fun.

Fingers hurt like hell today. I can move them but the meaty areas at the knuckles and blade of the hand are very swollen. I can't grip anything as a result. Fortuntly my mouse had still works so I can still play WiTP.

My 53 years old 260lb partner stayed with the car. Had he participated in the chase I would have been doing CPR on him.

Yeah, but if he had caught him he would have possibly put the poor wretch right through the nearest wall.

We almost did that a few years ago during a search warrant. We are hitting the 1st floor of a 2 family house and we are the last two through the door since we are the search team (It was my warrant). As we enter we see a door to our left that the informant had not told us about. The people had partitioned the living room and added a bed room between the front bay window and the rest of the livingroom. The raid team has bypassed this and are down the hall so we decide to clear this room. I kick the door open and 140 lb of pot head pushes it back shut and holds the door. My partner and I then both hit the door and you have 480lb worth of detective vs 140lb worth of pothead. We knocked him over his bed and he actually bounced off the window.

This is why I love search warrants. You get to break down doors and throw people around.

I have had to draw my weapon about 2-3 times a year but would have been justified using it only 2-3 times.

In 1990 when I was fresh out of the academy I was involved in a car chase where the suspect rammed us and then tried to run me over when I was out of the car. I actually decided to shoot but at the last moment I thought "Hey, I am still on probation!" and decided to get out of the way instead. Guy missed me by about 2 feet and was later killed when he hit a tree.

Despite what you see on TV, 95% of people surrender peacefully. 4% run and 1% fight. Most nights on patrol were 9.5 hours of boredom and maybe 30 inutes of fun.

My understanding is that even if you are technically justified in using it the powers that be will still put you through the ringer. Is that true?

Give him a break, he is British. I don't know how the Bobbys can do their job. What do they say? "Stop! Or I will say stop again?"

Thankfully most of the people who fought were just trying to get away from me. I have only had 1 person actually try to attack me to get away. He got pepper sprayed and this changed his mind about fighting on

The laws in New Jersey allow you to use your firearm under a lot more situations than you actually would. For example if someone escapes from custody and got arrested for committing an offense that you could have shot him for while he was committing the offense, you can shoot him to prevent his escape. I would not want to explain why I shot a robber in the back who was cuffed and was running away.

Use of force is always quetioned but where cops get themselves into trouble is by not documenting why they did what they did or worse continuing to use force after it is no longer needed. The Rodney King beating was totally justified up to the point where he laid in the ground and put his hands out. After that it became excessive force. Very easy to have happen when the adreniline is going.

I wouldn't fancy being a copper over here. There doesn't seem to be any respect these days, I've seen the sh*t they have to put up with. It still doesn't stop a lot of military personnel joining the police when they leave the forces. Obviously the lack of respect does not include the RAF police who don't deserve any

The best way to be a police officer would be shout stop! and then arrest the most drunk offender.

That would count as excessive force. Blunt object to the head counts as deadly force. Flashlight to the thigh is always allowable and tends to take the fight right out of the bad guy. If you hit the nerve on the side of the thigh it causes a hell of a charlie horse.
