Hi All.

I have sent the files for the next public beta release to Matrix. These need to be assembled into an installer, sent back to me for testing to ensure all the files are in the correct places, and then I approve it for release to the public.

So keeping in mind that Matrix has a busy schedule with a lot on their plate at the moment, I am hoping to get everyone a new public beta for the week of Nov 20 to Nov 24. Schedule subject to change.

The release notes will be the same because they're a high level change list from R2 to R3. That said about 30 bugs were corrected from the previous beta. Some major, some minor.

The condensed list includes;

- Arcade control fixes.
- Various Canadian clock rules fixes.
- Various depth chart fixes.
- Various stats fixes.
- Player generation fixes (players should no longer generate skill over the 99 level).
- Various draft fixes.
- Injured player substitution fixes.
- Various PDS fixes.
- Added additional checks to ensure that 3rd party stadiums don't crash the game if they're not assembled properly.
- Saved game fixes.
- Second half kick off bug fixed.
- A couple of utilities fixes.

I've also added the ability to have a player photo named lastname_firstname.bmp and the game will automatically use that if the players name matches.

So obviously, that's not a complete list but it should give you some indication of the things that were worked on. That said, it's possible that a bug you may have reported has not been addressed in this public release. If you discover that is the case, please don't panic, it's probably scheduled to be in the next one. If you want to post a reminder, that's great because it's also possible I missed your post. Sometimes bug reports get burried deep in threads and I may not see them.

Also keep in mind that I consider this a 'claimed fix' list. What I mean by that is that I'm pretty sure it's fixed, and the private beta testers haven't told me otherwise, so I'm considering the issue fixed. It's possible though that you reported something earlier that is still occuring. Likely what's happened is that I've missunderstood what you were posting so I fixed the wrong thing.

Thanks to those who took the time to post what they have been finding with the game.

I'll follow up on this thread when the release is available for you to download.

David Winter,

Even though I do not have a lot of time, to think about if any thing has not been addressed (The NFL BABY and The MDs BEAT THE SNOT OUT OF THE VIKINGS!); GREAT JOB MF and Mr. Winter.

Great news David.

Just curious, was the issue with Indoor rules where a team misses a field goal and the other team then gets the ball at the spot of the kick, changed?

I know it had been discussed in a thread I started.

A missed field goal in Indoor Rules now comes out to the 5 rather than the spot of the ball. It should probably be the 10, but try the 5 and see how it goes. It's easy enough for me to change.

It was changed to the 5 yard line.

The problem is that there are many indoor rules leagues, and almost none of them do the same thing.  The ball placement varies from the 5 yard line to the 25 yard line.  I'd like the 10 or 20, but any placement between the 5 and 25 is per rule.

Perhaps, in the future, this can be one of those optional select rules that Maximim-Football allows for, but David would have to take some time to get that done, and other things are scheduled.

By the way, at least one indoor league uses an uno (rouge) rule.  It's pretty cool that Maximum-Football can too.

Great news, and thanks. Im actually ok with the 5. Could be 10 or 20, but 5 is fine. Anythings better than missing from 49 yards and handing your opponent a 1st and goal at the 1

Yeah, the 1 yard line is a quick trip to a safety.

In some real world leagues, the ball comes out to the 20 or 25 as a sort of penalty for teams that try mid-field field goals rather than going for fist downs, but other leagues do not do that because they want to encourage scoring, and field goals are scoring.

I like the 10 yard line the best.  As the indoor field is half as long as an American outdoor field, it sort of makes sense to place the ball half way out from the outdoor rule which is at the 20 yard line.

At this time, only the AFL has bounce nets, but several leagues allow the ball to bounce off the back wall and still be in play.  I suspect it would be difficult to add that to Maximum-Football at this point, but it is another non-standard rule in indoor football.

With the indoor game, the best thing to do is just figure out what league rules one wants and just have fun with it.  That is what David really wanted Maximum-Football to do.

It will take a bit longer. We didn't quite get the build sorted out on the production side before the holiday and now Thanksgiving is upon us. It will be next week, sorry for the additional delay all.

Regards,

- Erik

Just to give everyone an update on this.

Matrix sent me a new installer package today and everything looks okay except for one problem. It has the old (R1/R2) manual in it. I really think it would be best that the correct manual be provided to you so I've asked them to update the install package with the correct manual.

That shouldn't take long, but time zone differences prevent me from testing that until they've already gone home for the day. So I'm thinking Wednesday or Thursday you should have a new install. It will officially be build 1.3.102 and includes the fixes I mention above.

The problem though is that due to the delay, I'm already on 1.3.115 ! And have made even more fixes and improvements.

So bear with me if you have posted a bug and I've claimed it fixed but not in 1.3.102. The delay has thrown a wrench into my schedule for trying to get builds to you all.

Currently 1.3.115 includes the addition of 53 man rosters & 7 round drafts, fixes for invalid teams crashing the PDS, No punters (but two place kickers) on quick game generated rosters, and a list of other. I'll post something more detailed when the release is pending.

Thanks Again
David

Sorry everyone.. I'm trying to get this to you as soon as I can. I've decided to forgo the 1.3.102 build I mentioned above because it's out of date and little would be accomplished by giving it to you. The version you're likely to get is 1.3.118 and has a lot of fixes in it. I'm just trying to get some things resolved with the installer package and it's taking a long time. I know it's frustrating. It is for me too.

brb321: Well. I recommend resetting the leagues with every new patch. I often make changes to the database schema, and while I try to have the game smart enough to update databases to match structure, it may not be able to update contents. So it's always safest to reset the league when you get a new patch.

garysorrell: BTW, I've set this to be the 10 yardline. I tried it at the 5 and it seemed like better play balance to have it at the 10.

Mr. Winter,

Will there be a time when leagues won't have to be reset when a patch is introduced?  I haven't started a league yet for this very reason, so it would be nice to have an idea of when it would be safe to start one.

Hi.

Resetting leagues is an unfortunate part of the process right now. It will settle down though. As I mention in another thread, the game automatically updates the database structures of the leagues as required so they match the current build.

The problem though is that it can't update missing data. If you have a league and have played 3 weeks of a season, then install a patch that includes a new stat category, the game will update your league database to make room for that category, but it can't fill in the missing data for the games that have already been played. That's just one example of a situation where the problem occurs.

That may not be the answer you're looking for (or rather the one you hoped for), but I hope you will understand at least why I suggest that leagues be reset with new builds.

David Winter,

No need to appologize; I doubt any other FB Gaming Game can do any better.

For other Members,

No, I only made a thread in wrong critical of not being able to update leagues with latest Version of MF; thus, no I am not being hyprocite.
