There should be some sort of dress code.  Pinstripe and bowler hats, or tweed?  I could also open a store selling those next door, I'd be rich!

Replace penstripes with basic black (its in) and you might have something there.

Black is in again?  Apparantly camo was 'in' this summer.  I could've been cool.

From netflix I just finished a documentary series (4 episodes) called Barbarians. It was interesting stuff. They chronicled the Vikings, Goths, Mongols and Huns. Very interesting for any history buffs out there. I was actually very impressed by the Mongols. Brutality aside, I'm not sure history has done them justice. They had a fairly culturally rich society in many ways. They also made sure to point out how much Eastern Europe owed them, as they gave the Ottoman Turkish empire heck and distracted them, for surely the Ottomans would have brought even more force to bare on Eastern Europe if they hadn't been so busy with the Mongols. Finally, they were largely responsible for opening the trade routes from the Far East to Europe

Roll models are very important.

Edit: LOL. make that role models. I suppose you could have roll models too but only if you're a pastry chef.

Actually Gengis Kahn was far too messy a tyrant. All that blood. Blech! I'm much more subtle. Why half of you aren't even aware you are my slaves.

It is possible. I'm going to masacre the spelling but the second great Mongol leader Timigen launched a campaign on northern India conquering as far south as Dehli. I don't know what happened after that.

Perhaps the Mongols greatest accomplishment was the Yuan dynasty in China.

Thanks for link Mynok. Some new information in there for me. I did have to disagree with this statement though.

quote:

They were a pastoral and tribal people that did not really seem to be of any consequence to neighboring peoples.

perhaps what the other meant was that they did not interact or engage much in trade, but the Mongols, along with the Tar Tars were a major reason for the Great Wall to be built.

I find the Mongols a bit of an enigma. A people living on the wasted steppes of east central asia they had virtually nothing, no resources, no wealth and no way to earn much of a living, yet they created the largest empire in history. They could be the most brutal of adversaries, yet they did not often seek out war, nor did they shy from it. They were a people that, as a general rule, were more interested in trade than war.

Timogen was perhaps more ruthless than Gengis, but everywhere he conquered he killed many of the people, but saved all the scholars and artisans and brought them back to his capital of Samarkand making it one of the great places of enlightenment of its time.

Its almost as if (and maybe this is so) they were a people that had an elevated appreciation for beauty exactly because they were a people that before had nothing and no future.

Erm, assuming that Timogen = Temujin, then he WAS Genghis Khan. Temujin was his birthname.

It is now a tradition at our place to have an exotic meat at Thanksgiving, rather than turkey. Last year we had pheasant. This year will be venison.

TtT for short weeks tithe.
