The game crashed for me this morning when I hit the Windows key.

I received an e-mail, went to look at it, when I clicked back on the FOF application, while still in the inroductory screen (with the quote, music, and the guy hollering the Load in 9 times commands), there was a note from the awful looking US artillery?/infantry? man saying that Kentucky had joined the Union. No games were open, I had just started the program. The game crashed just after.

Hope that makes sense, I'll check back to give more details/answer questions if desired.

Thanks!

AS

I don't know about the crash, but as a long time Windows gamer one of the first things I found I need to do was disable the Windows key so it wouldn't bust me out of games. The link below is one of many that provide this option:

I am finding the game unstable when started from "quick start" but much more table when booted from the main menu.

My crashes have happened after playing about 2 hours. Don't remember what I was doing for the first one. The second crash happened when the map was in the east and the message "CSA has captured Frankfort" appeared. Nothing happened until I clicked and got the message about the program needing to shut down.

Another thread mentioned there is some kind of crash associated with winning sieges.

You know, I'm starting to think that I should just put a positive spin on this an announce that having a siege-related crash is a rite of passage...

I have yet to finish a game because of the siege related crash syndrome. Pretty frustrating. Any chance of a quick fix or pactch???? Please help. Otherwise, great game, been waiting for a good Civil War all-encompassing game for a long time.

Eric is working on it. This is a high enough priority that when it's fixed we'd get it out ASAP, rather than waiting a few weeks to bundle it together with generals' bios or something.

Great, I knew I could count on you guys.  You always support your games great.  Does Michael Wood still work with Matrix? I met him when I used to creat scenarios for the original Steel Panthers for NovaStar Games.

Got another one today.

It seems like the message for the successful siege comes on the turn after the area has been taken - followed by the game freezing for a second or two and then the windows system tells us that FoF is having troubles and must close.

Crash is related to sieges.  I seem to have fixed it.  I want to work on the scroll locking problem -- may have a lead there.  Hopefully we'll get a patch out soon.

Thats awesome. Bug is crippling my ability to play and I have decided to stop until a patch comes out. I had two union armies trapped and destroyed in Kentucky and then after I successfully finished the sieges against Frankfort and Lexington in Winter '62-'63, it crashes everytime.

Of course. Now he's waiting for "Billy Boy" to show up at his front door and beg forgiveness for all of WINDOWS problems, preferably with a large check in hand.

It seems I solved the siege crash at least temporarily. I now save the game before each turn. I had a city under siege with two "armies". and I took the city. The game said I took the city two times (I assume for each army) and of course, the crash. After my restart of saved gane, I took one of the armies out of the siege, I took the city, and NO CRASH. Amazing. I am still playing the same game several turns later with no ill effects. Still waiting on the fix, though.

I tried doing that to no avail. I have sieging containers with no units in them and even if I move the units out of the territory, it still crashes.

I have the same problem, but the registry file can not disable key only when game is running(other time I need that key),
I searched on google ,and found this http://www.autowinsoftware.com/products/disable-key,but Unfortunately, this is not free.
