So progress is being made..., but we're going to have to live with this a bit longer? Good to know.

Hi Mike

(lol, when I first seen the post, I thought the title was Problem with Scholl )

beleive me sir, every post is being looked into, and talked about

and if a Bug or a problem, worked on

some are simple and some are misunderstandings, and some are mistakes or bugs (but they are stuff that were not seen earlier)

Eric is working on some of the hassles and thinks he is getting some of them, and once he gets it up and ready, we will test it as fast as we can, so it can be seen if it is working the way we expect it to

I can honestly say, it has been months since I last seen any trouble with the scroll, and a long time since we had any window crashes

we will try and find and fix any bugs or hassles as we can

You owe me a new shirt..., I just spit coffee up all over mine when I read this. Good to see some sense of humor breaking out around here.

Seriously, as long as someone is actually looking into the problem, I think we can all be quite patient.

Always best to bring some people new into the test team at the last hour (not minute) to road test something as ambitious as this. Some min spec, some max.

Any flurry of last minute updates is also a sure way to break or forget something. Flurrying for dollars I can understand but as I wise mentor taught me, "things can wait".

Having this issue too and I'll just add one little detail:
When the scrolling freezes you are also no longer able to get info from a province just by running over it with the cursor. The picture in the info panel stays the same no matter where you put your cursor (not clicking, just moving the cursor).

The main screen timer is being misdirected or suspended: this affects many things related to mouse movement.  Our current hypothesis is that this happens when players manage to open two popup windows at once and then shut one of them.  I will look at adding code either to prevent more than one popup from opening at once, or else to close any open popups when another one opens.

Me too and it stops me from being able to play long. I also lose the popup tabs at the same time my mouse won't scroll anymore. Reloading the game resets it but after going to the eastern side of the map it seems to do it most. I was really getting into the game but now it is a pain to play. Dang it!

I just tried a game where I set containers to close on "mouse movement" away.

I've played for a couple of hours now on basic with no problems at all - no freezes and no CTD's.

Don't know what I'm doing but my CSA is 5 victory points and the USA -5!

There have been seiges won and lost on both sides aplenty too.

Same thing happened to me on turn 2

Mike, when you select a container - you have in the lower left side of the pop up screen a button you can select "close when mouse moves out" ... I'm pretty sure they mean this ...

Will have to try the same thing

Lancers work, always have, just maybe not where you are looking for them

I have Divs of French Lancers in my Corps (but I also try to get Poland as they like to make them for me)

yea, that was a odd one, never could get it work from the screen where it should be seen, but it works from the other screens ???? (and if I remember right, it was only a few Nat's that had trouble with it, others did not)

they/we will be going back to CoG and try to get to the rest of the issues soon

Yep that's it. I saw it by accident and the beauty is once you apply it in one container it defaults to all others.

No more scrolling freeze-ups for me.

Now the question is: Is this the optimal way that veterans play?

when you want to be looking at the different info on your units, the container not closing is nice, but other then that, that is one of the first things I do is to set it to close when the mouse moves away

which may be why most of the testers were not seeing this

This seems to be the problem. I can repeat the scroll lock by this way:
1. right-click any province (in this case Appalachia)
2. a pop-up window opens and I don't close it
3. I right click any province on the map (in this case Lexington)
4. second pop-up window opens and mouse scroll is locked

right, that looks like part of it, what we looking at is to have code to make sure if a 2nd box is opened the first box closes, there is also something about a timer issue, but I think they got a handle on it

Hey, this may be it. I was actually able to duplicate the scroll lock bug this way. Thank you, thank you.

The beta tester we had in COG who was helping us debug the lancer bug stopped testing for us, and now he just makes fun of the lancer bug on the forum.

That is NOT what was happening to me. I really do think I would have noticed a second pop up window.

But while we are on it... this problem is no where near the level of importance as the crash from sieges. If you have limited resources, time or people, do THAT one and worry about this one later. ( I know you already know this, but hey I wanted to type something )

It's possible that the second popup isn't always displaying because of the suspended timer thread. I'll make this fix, and we can see if people are still having problems -- I haven't been able to reproduce this any other way thus far.

The siege bug is already fixed, I believe; I'm trying to get both in for a patch.

I managed to get to mid 63 before I crashed due to a siege problem. And fortunately for me it was on the first turn after started the saved game. Havent rerun it yet.

I assume it crashed because the CSA pulled out of the fort. Cant be sure but seems likely. I had a host of sieges up to then with no problem, then hit on of the 4 forts on mississipi ( AI might have seen the likely outcome and moved to consolidate? One can hope it is that smart )

Ya ya I know wrong thread...

Just to help you guys confirm a little bit...

After reading these suggestions I have diligently been careful not to open two containers at the
same time, and I no longer get the scroll lock

What I had been doing is right clicking frequently to ensure I didn't have a unit selected and accidently
move it.  I just need to remember to hit the space bar instead (I think the manual said the space bar).
Oh, and thank you, thank you, thank you for the backspace key to undo moves!!!

edit: And hopefully the fix doesn't end up just being to select the 'close window when mouse leaves'
option, because I often times need to move the larger boxes to see the bottom of the screen. I can
only imagine my frustration when I move to far up and the box closes. Repeat that a few times and
I GO CRAZY

By the way, the game is quite enjoyable now that I can play without the scroll locking up. I hope the
AI has half a brain.

Thanks,

Rocco
