A French company is developing a present day geopolitical game named "GPS" for Geo Political Simulator due to be released in the first quarter of 2007. Below is the website and what they say about the game: http://www.eversim.com/body_products_GPS_en.html "G.P.S. is an extremely elaborate and realistic simulation of the functioning of the planet. All of the countries of the world are represented with their own variables and manners of functioning. The player is head of a country's government (president, king, prime minister, etc.) and can act in all domains: economic, social, military, foreign and domestic politics, environment, cultural, etc. Two game modes are offered to the player: - 'Free mode' : the player's objective is to remain in power as long as possible and to further his influence throughout the world. - 'Scenario mode' : several scenarios and missions with different difficulty levels and with specific objectives are proposed to the player. The game can be played in « solo » mode against the computer or in multiplayer mode (up to 16 players). Additionnally, a version running in massively multiplayer mode with persistent universe will be available. 30 original scenarios and missions ranging from global environment stability, energy shortages, the spreading of new diseases, terrorist threats, economic wars, military invasions, nuclear catastrophe, etc.. Inspired by information TV programs with multiple windows, on-screen video inserts, scrolling ticker tapes, ID cards for countries and personalities, etc. All items are in 3D, notably the world map with topography, cities, regions, borders, territorial waters, etc. The world map can be displayed as flat or in globe form, full-screen or zoomed to a high level of detail. There are many display modes, based on theme or strategic and economic alliances. The player has a number of actions at his disposal, depending on how each country operates. The player's first task is to form a government by choosing ministers from among the country's personalities. All actions are distributed among twelve "super ministries" that perform all government services. In addition to specific decisions (for example changing tax rates, pushing the retirement age back, privatizing a state-owned company, firing a minister, etc.), the player can also negotiate with labour syndicates, sign business or military contracts with partner countries, participate in decision-making at international organizations, deliberate over a great number of laws that are proposed (such as creating a new tax, drawing up an employment plan, prohibiting political parties, making public transportation free for all, granting suffrage to immigrants, regulating police custody, etc.). From his private desk, the player can also consult the daily paper, update his planner, use his laptop, or telephone to make direct contact with a high-ranking government official or leader of another country. A player's political decisions could take him on the path to becoming anything from a dictator to an environmentalist. Military operations are performed directly on the map. The strategies of the countries run by the computer are also influenced by the personality of their leader. The Secret Service are indispensable for learning about enemy forces and for leading special operations (overturning a regime, assassinations, sabotage, spreading rumours, etc). To calculate the developments of the planet's values, economic equations and statistical diagrams are used. The engine is linked to sizeable databases grouping 229 countries (all of the countries recognized by the UN, plus Puerto Rico, Taiwan, and Palestine). For each of them, over 400 statistical indicators are updated in different domains: Economy (GDP, growth, per capita income, inflation, unemployment, etc.), geography, demographics, energy, commerce in over 60 different sectors of activity, monetary data, budget, fiscal data, politics, diplomacy, military, quality of life, education, culture, religion, etc. Initial data are gathered from international organizations, budgetary ministries, and statistical institutes in the different nations. Statistics are gathered for over 8000 cities and for over 1200 administrative regions. More than 1000 nuclear and other energy units, more than 1000 military bases situated throughout the world, more than 100 historic and cultural sites. Countries have an average of about two hundred personalities, each with individual variables - such as character, competence, ambition, political ideology, etc. - which influence their decisions. A More than 6000 fuzzy logic rules AI base is running consequences of any events or action in the world simulation. The player can change the names and photos of the personalities as desired (or even give them his own name). Likewise, logos and names of political parties can be customized." What do you think about this game? Please post your comments. Best regards.
