Idea for naming brigades

Status: offline 		Is there any way of getting the program to name the brigades after the states they are from or start in {1st Maine, 2nd Maine, etc}? I know I can do this manually, but that seems a bit tedious when dealing with well over a hundred brigades just for the Union and being unable to name those from the South {if playing the North}.

Seems it would add a little to the flavor of the game.

Status: offline 		This idea came up during playtest, and was decided against for historical reasons.  More often than not both sides tended to mix regiments of different states into their brigades.  Now, had FoF been a regimental game YES I'm sure this would have been done this way.  Maybe FoF II will be regimental in scale!

Actually Jim, that usually came about later in the war when the Brigade strength was beginning to wain and newly raised regiments were added to keep the numbers up. But you are right that as "color" it is probably more trouble than it's worth. I might suggest to "rockmedic" that if he likes playing that way, he should kick up his favorite scenario, change all the Brigade names as he see's fit, then save it as "MY START". He can then use that "scenario" whenever he plays, and the brigade names will always include the states without having to go through the process more than once for each side.

Can we even begin to hope that an FOF II would go to that level of detail.

Status: offline 		One of the "drawing board" ideas during design was to remember the state each brigade was raised in.  Brigades that get destroyed or heavily wounded in battle would reduce the attitude of the governor of their state, and they would get priority reinforcements from camps in their home state.  Governors could have actions to help/hinder brigades from their state perhaps.  For the CS, if a state "stepped down" from the war, it would recall all brigades from that state.  Brigades might get an additional bonus when fighting within their home state.  The quality or other attributes of brigades could be linked to events within the state... so if a state loses its capital, brigades from that state might become demoralized (or else filled with zeal...)  Something for an expansion pack perhaps...

Jim's right, we did consider naming brigades after states during testing, but from what I can tell, it wasn't common to name brigades after states during the war: in the South, they were more often named after their commander (or more confusingly, after a past commander and not necessarily their current commander); in the North, they were more often given numerical designations within a corps (i.e. "2nd Bde II Corps").  It was more common to name regiments after states ("5th Michigan" was a regiment, not a brigade).

That sounds like a great idea Eric....did governors have that sort of power during the ACW and If so, will this be considered in FOFII?

Brown in Georgia, for instance, opened up separate negotiations between the state of Georgia and Great Britain on Brown's insistence that Georgia was a sovereign entity which had the authority to negotiate its own foreign policy.  The brigade/state thing is something we'll definitely consider if FOF is received well enough to warrant an expansion pack or sequel.

Well I'm keeping my fingers crossed it does do well.
How about a 'what if' scenario like Robert E Lee and Queen Victoria becoming close after she saw a picture of him on his White horse?

SPRUCE....I agree about that Brown person....a total pain in the arse.
