Paul V. told me that the beta should be out in a day or two, and if that goes well, the real version should be out about a week after that. JIM

As usual we keep adding new stuff :-) the latest stemmed from some interesting arguments from Moonwolf and led to some reprioritizing to take a clean look at the "default" country training levels and the way we "roll" unit characteristics. We couldn't fully satisfy his (and others) yearnings for more accurately portraying the minor controls in "default" mode. In general it takes a grizzled scenario designer like Wild Bill to get the "feel" of a particular battle right. But after a lot of hemming and hawing that went even to the extent of calling Gary Grigsby (he is involved in our PacWar redo:-) and getting his input on what his "design intent" for the role of those values in the game - we decided to make some changes. THat has delayed things a bit though. I'm also investigating the counterbattery problems in the OObs, so they are taking a bit longer too. SO we hope to have a "relaese candidate" build soon (days) and when we have a good feel for its perfomance, we will officially announce a release date. We've been saying "one more week" for a couple weeks now, I know, but hopefully it will not drag on too much longer. When we declare it "soup" - we'll ring the dinner bell :-) [This message has been edited by Paul Vebber (edited August 07, 2000).]

Watching Matrix work on this version of the SP series has been an eye opener for me. I knew that many people were involved with such a process, but seeing it in action is something differant. To single out Mr Grigsby would be wrong as I'm sure it was a group effort for the originals as well. However would it be possable for Mr. Grigsby to stop by this forum for a moment? I would so much like to thank him personally and to hear anything he might like to say. The same extensions of welcome to post here for anyone else on the original SP teams. Mr Brors? As to the Matrix team I don't want you guys to get swelled heads with more thanks Well ok, "you guys are tops" ------------------ Good hunting, Pack Rat
